I meant to ask a while ago if other people hear it too, it's right after you park and turn off your car you step out and can hear the metal ticking/clanking/tapping sounds from all over the car. I hear it all seasons, cold or hot days.
Is this just steel parts like the exhaust tubes cooling down? I never heard this much on other cars I've had so that's why it seems strange to me.
I've been noticing a metal type 'clanking' sound whenever I am gently accelerating up a hill on my 2.4L.
It doesn't happen all the time though. It's not the usual GDI ticking sound. It can be heard when the windows are open but yet I can not tell where the sound is coming from. It doesn't happen enough that I can replicate it so I haven't taken it in for a check. The car drives fine though.
Sounds when going up a hill? Not sure if it's from the engine or from the transmission getting confused trying to change to the right gear. Perhaps the sound is just normal...
2012 Passat SEL ... I got new tires put on a few weeks ago and have a new rattle, sounds like glass tapping against glass or metal on metal. It only happens when I'm cruising around 65 mph. From where I am in the drivers seat, it sounds like it's coming from the drivers rear tire area or under/behind the center console/dash board. I know it's not a lot of info, but need to figure out what's going on.
View 1 RepliesJust last night, out of the blue, I've got an odd rumble at idle. The noise goes away under load and any time the rpm's are up over ~1300. It sounds like metal on metal vibration, but I don't see any loose exhaust parts.
I've looked at threads saying possibly a broken flex plate. Other than the noise, would there be any other symptoms? I don't notice any loss of power. I suppose I could pull the inspection cover and take a look, but I don't have any experience with auto tranny's and don't really know what I'm looking for.
My parking brake light came on while driving. The car would coast at a low speed OK, so I think the brake was not on.
This happened in Yellowstone National Park at altitudes above 7,600 ft. and happened 4,000 miles ago and hasn't happened since. Taking the car in for an oil change today and I am going to ask about it.
i just realized that when i apply my paddle emergency (parking) brake, the light on dash does not come ON. However when i turn the key on i can see there is parking brake light on dash and it also comes on.
Why its not showing the light when the parking brakes are engaged ? is it safe ? is it could be a fuse or cable from lever?
Whenever I park on an incline whether it's upward or downward the car seems to roll about an inch or so after engaging the parking brake and then taking my foot slowly off the brakes. When I engage the parking brake I have the transmission set in neutral so the weight of the car doesn't put stress on it.
View 26 RepliesLooks like the front parking assist and auto emergency braking are inoperative. I have them selected in the settings but get no beeps or warnings. The back sensors are working and I get a display warning and tone. 2016 Sonata Limited ....
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 hyundai sonata, this car is my daily driver. I put 180 miles on it a day around trip. Currently has 180,200 miles on it. Last Friday on my trip home when i turned right I heard a metal on metal sound. I slowed down went straight and it went away. Talked to a few people and I think it may be the wheel bearing. Even if I hit a road reflector it starts up. It's the front left wheel. Get on the breaks it goes away.
So my question is... Wheel bearing??? And can I replace the whole hub and fix the problem or do I have to try and press the bearing out?
I got some coilovers installed last night, they are ksports. i have them on fairly low height as of now but i have noticed every time I hit bumps, I hear a kthunk (metal hitting metal noise) from my front driver side. is it from the coilover nuts itself or something wrong with my control arm? the sound ONLY comes from the front DRIVER side.
View 4 RepliesMy 2011 2.4l Sonata made a metal on metal sound suddenly the other day. About 4 days ago, I drove about 2 hours away from where I live, Mostly highway, about 80mph to a go kart race. Got out of the car for a while and came back in and was pulling away to run the store and as i started to approach the first stop sign maybe 500-600 ft from where i was parked, i heard a bad metal on metal sound, came to a complete stop at the sign and it stopped. Went back to the race after driving to the store about 5 miles away.
Got in the car to leave and same thing, just to the stop sign 500-600ft away. Drove home like i said mostly highway, and didn't hear a thing. Today, about 4 days later, I drove to Chicago O'hare airport, about 30min away, and it was fine the whole way there. However on the way back, after about 20-25min, I heard it again. So I came to complete stop as I was forced to by a traffic light as I was taking my exit off the highway, and It started making that sound again. So i came to a complete stop at the light and started moving again when it turned green and couldn't heard a thing.
When driving my car it will rattle and its been getting worse over time... it sounds like a thin metal such as tin. I've already been under my car a couple times and can't find anything.

Every time I back out of my garage, I would obviously have it from Park to Reverse...when I put it in D from R....there is clunking noise right after the first gear...
It goes first gear, than this clanking noise then 2nd gear....It almost sounds like a motor mount? I hope its something not too bad as a mount.
It only happens when engine is cold and it seems to only happen that one time I go from 1 to 2 right after R..
It's sound like a grinding metal but real quick...like something crushing.
I have done ATF flush at 30, 60, and 90; the 90k was done just about two months ago.
Two months ago I started getting a clanking noise from the right front when I accelerated from a stop, or stopped and moved the car backwards from forwards or vice versa. I pulled the wheel and noticed pretty work brake pads, with the inboard pad completely shot. Car has 34k miles. The left side inboards and outboards were about 50% worn and were worn evenly. Sure enough, I had a sticking lower slide pin on the right. I cleaned everything up and lubed all contact points, and replaced pads and clips. I removed, cleaned and re-lubed all slide pins and holes with the appropriate silicone brake lube, and confirmed that they are siding freely. The problem is that this worked, but did not completely eliminate the problem. The noise still happens about 1 out of every 5-10 starts once the car starts to roll after the brake pedal is released. The rim seems to rotate ok when jacked up and I am not getting a pull. A mechanic buddy of mine said that in these cases he just ends up replacing the whole caliper.
View 9 RepliesMy 2.4L engine is making a clanking noise while running. When I checked the oil level today, it was low by about 1.5 quarts. There's no check engine light.
Car has 74K miles now. I purchased the car two years ago with 35K miles. I have always performed regular maintenance myself. The car had its oil control valve replaced at 55K miles.

My girlfriends 06 Sonata 4cyl threw a p0011 code a week or so ago. I looked online and saw that it could be dirty oil so I immediately changed it (it was about 400 miles overdue at that point). I also looked on the forums here and was referred to a thread that suggested replacing the oil control valve. My girlfriend drove to work a few times before I fixed it (maybe a 100 miles total) and the car stalled out in the middle of an intersection. I then replaced the OCV and to my discontent the problem was still very present. Very loud knocking or clanking under the valve cover and sluggish idle. Her mechanic now says that it is a job for a hyundai dealership and that it could be something as bad as a head or engine rebuild. What the problem could be?
View 2 RepliesAfter washing my car this morning, I pulled it into the garage, pushed the park button, then the power button and got out of the car. Shortly after entering my house from the garage the horn started sounding very loudly. I grabbed the keys and ran back out to the garage to see what was wrong. I pushed the power button again but it just went to the accessory setting, then I powered up and checked to be sure I was in park, brake set, no door open. When I pushed the power button again, the horn stopped and everything seemed to be normal. I checked some other threads but they seemed to be about a horn alarm. I have not had an alarm activated that I know about.
View 4 RepliesMy Lexus SC430 parking sensor alarm sounds intermittently while I am driving. (No, I do not tailgate the car in front.)
It has happened several times, all but once when it was raining. On that one occasion, the sun was shining. It happened again today while it was raining, and continued to sound after the rain had stopped, but the road was still wet.
What could be causing this to happen, and how can it be prevented. I have decided to fit an ON-OFF switch, if the problem cannot be solved conventionally.
Noticed after long trips of a couple hours, the Prius rattles and creaks even when cruising in a parking lot at 5mph. I think it's kinda funny. That is, unless it doesn't happen to anyone else and there's actually something wrong with my car.
View 5 RepliesMy father purchased the 2015 GX460 this past January and the car currently has 4,500 miles. The first complementary oil change was completed in July. I feel that the brake of his GX460 is not sensitive enough, and I have to step on the brake very hard to feel the truck stopping. Does every GX460 owner feel the same way? I told my father about this, and he said I'm just not used to it. I'm thinking about taking his truck back to Lexus to check it out.
The dashboard so far doesn't indicate any ABS problem. By the way, I'm an owner of a 2014 IS350 F-Sports, and my 350's brakes are much better in my opinion. I'm not sure whether my experience of my 350, which has larger brake calipers for its size, has influenced me to draw such conclusion about the GX460 brakes.
Also, I notice that when I step on/release the GX460 pedals, I hear some noise that sounds like air. Did some research about this on the forum, and some of you have that too. I still don't understand this issue.
How to install the Toyota Intuitive Parking Assist system in a US 2015 Camry XLE? Apparently, this system is sold with the 2015 Camrys elsewhere (I checked in TIS, and it is included in the 2015 Camry service manual), but not in the US.
I would dearly love to have this system in my car, because I find it difficult to judge how close I am in front to another car or other obstacle.
