I have a 2015 Sonata SE 2.4L with 15k miles. Sometimes when accelerating, and almost always when accelerating uphill, the vehicle makes a noise that I can best describe as sounding like a grumbling or rattle from the engine. It almost has a "diesel engine" sound to it. I have noticed this going back to when the vehicle was brand new, but I have recently noticed it more.

I changed my engine air filter a while ago on a cold morning. I was putting the last screw into the air box, and it broke in half. The bottom half became stuck in the threads in the bottom half of the air box. Not knowing how to get it out, I took the car over to a dealer. They looked at it, and the response was - Sure, we can fix it. We just need to order you a new air box. That'll be $700! I explained to them that the screw breaking was not my fault, as I was careful to not overtighten it. They refused to cover it under warranty. When I drive the car, I hear a grumbling from the motor when accelerating. I assume this is because the air box is not properly sealed, so the motor can suck in additional air.
Next, I took the car over to my buddy, who is a mechanic. He was able to extract the bottom half of the screw. He had a new one of the same size. He put it in, and everything was fine. Grumbling went away. Now, grumbling has started up again. I checked the air box, and the screw my friend put in popped out.
Well, my MIL came on, and hasn't left (yes, my gas cap was tightened). My bigger concern is that when I'm on the highway, if I have to slow down for traffic, upon accelerating again, when I hit 108km/h, the car does a crazy death shudder, and slows down...I have to release the pedal, let it slow to around 95, and then I can accelerate again. I'm gunna wait and see if the light goes off after a couple of days, but this is worrying.
View 25 RepliesI've been noticing a metal type 'clanking' sound whenever I am gently accelerating up a hill on my 2.4L.
It doesn't happen all the time though. It's not the usual GDI ticking sound. It can be heard when the windows are open but yet I can not tell where the sound is coming from. It doesn't happen enough that I can replicate it so I haven't taken it in for a check. The car drives fine though.
Sounds when going up a hill? Not sure if it's from the engine or from the transmission getting confused trying to change to the right gear. Perhaps the sound is just normal...
I just picked up a Sport. I've noticed 1,2 quick stutter type thing happening intermittently at highway speed going up a hill. Dealer service probably won't be able to have it happen as it only has happened 3 times in my 400 miles.
View 9 RepliesI purchased my 2014 GX a couple of months ago and already logged in about 2K. The car has been great so far. The only thing that I'm not so used to, is a strange feeling when accelerating or going uphill (even slightly) - I can feel the engine roar(?) through the steering wheel - I can't really describe it well - it's not a vibration per se, but more like you feel the engine working harder than usual through the slight vibration of the steering wheel. This is my first V8 car - I used to have a V6 Acura MDX before, and never felt that. There is a good chance this is normal for a V8 based truck, but I wanted to get others' input.

Today as I was attempting to go out of town I was accelerating up hill and heard a noise, sounded like air coming through a window seal or scratching, which is not the problem. The noise only came on when i increased the acceleration, there is no power loss, the truck still accelerated properly and had good power, just that the noise came on. so i returned home only to hear the problem on flat land also, when pressing the gas to accelerate. The truck seems to idle fine and have no problem with low acceleration.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry, 4 cylinder. 48000 miles, had it since 08 when my mother passed, and it had 6500 miles on it then. Over the past few months it has developed a grumbling sound on accelerating from a stop. I thought it was only audible from inside but I heard it when my wife pulled away and now I am concerned. Two ways to describe this.
1. Grumbling.
2. A diesel like sound
It lasts for a very short time and is silent while driving and idling. I have also noticed that the idle "feels" low. It is about 600-650. Not sure what it should be.
My plan was to buy and change fuel filter, air filter, PVC , and maybe some injector cleaner...
I have a 2015 Sonata 2.0T and I have noticed knocking noise when driving. I experience it more when on the highway/freeway. I mainly experience it during acceleration. Not hard acceleration but when I want to overtake or when the road curves and coming out of the curve -I step in the gas a bit, I hear the knock.
View 11 RepliesI've driven 32k miles now, and I'm having an acceleration problem. It does not happen everyday, maybe once a month. but once I start accelerating hard to merge onto highway, it shifts down and rpm goes up but the speed remains the same.
View 7 RepliesI recently acquired a 2014 Sonata Limited 2.4L. Don't know if its me or not but engine noise seems to be excessive in the cabin especially when I am accelerating from a very low speed, almost like something in the engine is loose. Had it at the dealership today for warranty work (seat belt) and recall work and asked the techs to take a listen when the do their inspection. They came back and said that the noise is coming from the electric fuel pump and that it is totally normal. Previous car I had was a 2011 Honda Accord Ex and it seamed quieter.
View 1 RepliesI own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata (2004 Base model L4 - 2.4L 2351cc - MFI GAS DOHC) which is a 4 cylinder and has about 113000 miles. Anyways, about a month ago we had one of our coldest days of the year. I drove the car to work and everything was fine. Then when I left work (it was freezing cold) I went to start the car and it sounded like I started a race car. It was so loud that I thought the car was going to blow up (no check engine light came on). I changed the oil and that didn't work and so I figured it was something with the exhaust.
Then I took it to my mechanic (applause). He said that he was stumped, the car was noisy but he didn't think it was a problem but he said he would try to figure it out. He ended up taking off the timing belt and said that was fine, he said the water pump was good as well. He had a service tech look at it with him and they thought the issue might be the "vibration dampener" or "damper" So they replaced that but it didn't work. He said it could possibly be the motor mounts but he said when he looked at them they looked okay?
I drove it off his lot yesterday and it is quiet when I idle but I can see the steering wheel shaking significantly. Then when I hit the gas it is still obnoxiously loud and with heavy vibration! But when going down a hill and letting off the gas there is a brief respite of silence (still vibration). It is especially louder in lower rpms and sometimes I think I can hear a metallic clanking/scraping noise when I have the times of "silence" but it is very faint.
I am a proud and recent owner of a 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T!
Car looks amazing and am very happy with it.
But lately I have been noticing lots of drone noise coming from the engine, and a really loud cold start as well. The "cold start loudness" goes away after a little bit of driving.
Was wondering if this is just the way the 2.0T sounds, or should i get it checked?
Been driving my Sonata 2015 2.0t for about 14 months, now. Just turned 13.5k miles. I had first noticed this issue a few months into having the car, but didn't think anything of it. At the time, I wasn't spending much time in the upper end of the rev range. Today, I finally decided that it bugs me enough to investigate.
At WOT, starting around 5500 rpm and going until redline, there is a "raspy" sound coming from the motor that I think might be predetonation, but I'm not sure. It isn't very loud, which is why I originally ignored it, but it is easily noticeable inside the car. I've made some modifications in the past few weeks (Intake, OCC, and Exhaust) so I'm starting to have a bit more fun with the car and want to make sure I get this resolved before it becomes a bigger issue.
Out of curiosity, I looked inside the catch can and noticed a couple drops of fluid (lighter in color), which was surprising since I only installed it ~50 miles ago. Any by "a couple drops" I mean maybe 3mL of fluid. Not sure if that is significant in this case, but I figured it is worth mentioning.
I'm wondering if it could just be the altitude (Denver, CO) and the stock tune is off just a bit? I've been looking into the Lap3 Uncle Chip and HKS performance plugs, but am hesitant to go any further without better understanding what might be happening.
We've got a 2012 Hyundai Accent GDI. I've been hearing the rattle "ping" when the engine is under load (accelerating hard or uphill). I've read that this is typical for these engines.
I took it to our local Hyundai dealership since it's still under the 60,000 mile warranty. They updated the computer settings and I put in a fuel additive to clean up deposits. They also told me to buy name brand gas from here on out (Exxon, Shell, Mobil) as these engines don't handle cheap gas well.
Now that I've given you enough of a backstory, here are my questions:
- For those that have experienced the rattle "ping", what did you find fixed the problem?
- Any tips or things to look out for when cleaning the throttle body etc?
I got a 2015 GTI Autobahn, DSG, 5 door. Took delivery in early June. Love the car, has been amazing so far. Coming from an MKV GTI, a nice bump in power. One issue I've had is that I hear a noise coming when accelerating. It's almost like a 'whirring' noise. Not sure if this is what the new EA888 sounds like. I didn't notice this from the old MKV. I don't think it's a turbo whistle...I'm not going very fast. The car is in D when it happens. anything faster than 60km/h (40mph), I don't hear the noise, just 'normal' engine noise.
Is this how just MKVII's sound? I bought the car without test driving it...so not sure if this is an expected sound?
Been trying to save my miles on my 2011 GLS because I'm right at 100k (99.2K to be exact) and had a feeling something would be going wrong soon. Already had short block replacement, both CV axles replaced, steering columns, seized calipers, transmission sensors, and other repairs all done under warranty work for this stinker.
Driving to work today hear a clunk as I am driving uphill, tachometer immediately goes to zero, engine begins violently shaking, and traction control light comes on for some reason. Had my OBD scanner already plugged in and it pulls P0336 code for a crankshaft position sensor. Fortunately was close enough to home so that I drove it back and took the train to work. Probably going to take it to dealership tonight. The clunk and violent idle leads me to believe its more than a sensor problem. Car has had issues shifting over past month, but was so sporadic and not able to ever be replicated. Would maybe have a hard shift once every 2 weeks. That's about it.
I bought my RC F new about a month ago and have put a very fun 1450 miles on it. Ever since I got it, there is this weird noise happening right at about 2.8k - 3k rpms. It doesn't seem to happen when I'm hammering on it as much as when I just accelerate on the road to get around somebody and peak at those rpms.
Not quite sure how to explain the noise, it's kind of a high pitched gurgling. Is this normal?
I tried recording it but you can't hear it through the video at all. If you turn the volume up and put your ear right next to the speaker you *might* be able to hear it. It's much more apparent in real life.

I have a 2015 ford f250 xlt crew cab, 6.2, fx4 with about 1200 miles on it. My questions are, I have noticed a hissing or whistling noise while accelerating. I took to dealer and was told it was the throttle plates not closing all the way.I was told they all do this. Normal? Very annoying noise with windows down. Another noise I have been having is the brake pedal makes a popping noise while applying pressure to brakes. Dealer said brake pedal assembly was out of alignment. They said was out of alignment 1/8". After adjustment within a few days popping started again.
View 6 RepliesI bought the car new in '92 and have taken very good car with oil changes and required maintenance. The vehicle just turned 200 K miles, although mechanics have said they have seen these cars top 300 K miles. Noise started about a month ago and was initially noticed after turning off the engine after a 15 mile drive. Started happening more frequently after 10-15 mile drives.
Now it happens on short drives (5-6 miles), but not every time, and not when I brought to my mechanic to examine (figures!). Water was put through the radiator hose to flush out any trapped air, so that is not it. The noise is a cross between a grumbling of both air and water and it goes on for quite awhile. I stayed in the car about 3-4 minutes after shut off and it was still acting up.
I was driving and got off the freeway exit ramp and while I was waiting to make a left turn, the car all of a sudden started sputtering (RPM's were low up and down on idle) and eventually died while waiting to make a left turn.
Turned on the engine again.. same sputtering occurred and had to gas it so it wouldn't turn off.. Finally got to the side of the road.. turned the car off checked the oil.. no issues.. engine temperature was fine.. no check engine light.
After about 30 min later, turned the car on and it seemed to be normal again so I carefully drove to the dealer and encountered no issues. Took the car to the dealer and they couldn't find anything.
I drive a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited with about 19k miles now.
