Dec 8, 2015
On my way home tonight, I received several messages on the screen that a battery drain is happening and I should start the car. However, it WAS running!

View 15 RepliesJust bought a Sonata '15 2.0t sport. 8/10 times I start the car with plenty of gas, a message pops up on the nav screen saying the fuel is low and asking me whether I would like to navigate to the nearest gas station.
View 1 RepliesA yellow triangle with exclamation mark illuminated on my dash. Pg 3-100 of the manual has a picture of the light, and the description calls it the "master warning light" and continues: "This indicator light illuminates When there is a malfunction on the low washer, Smart cruise control, and so on. To identify the details of the warning, look at the LCD display." Later in the manual there are examples of the light going off together with LCD messages, so I know that's what this light is called.
There is no message on my LCD display. When I first bought the car, I set the car to remind me at 5000 miles about getting my oil changed (I drive mostly highway, long trips etc.) For the last week, the car's LCD has been reminding me that i'm due for service in X miles. Today, I hit 5000 and the messages stopped. Around 5050 miles on the clock, the yellow triangle warning light went off, with no explanation on the LCD.
Bluelink diagnostics also reports no errors. Is it just the oil change interval that I set and passed?
I had a sensor error which caused my battery to drain. The computer thinks my door is unlocked when it is locked, leaving the door open image on the dashboard. This caused my battery to drain totally. What the damage would be for a new battery and fixing the door sensor ?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata. The parking lights won't switch off without a turning the lights on and off for some time. Repeated attempts can turn them off, but you have to check the car in a hour to see if they have come back on. The dealer stated this was a known defect of the fuse box assy, but there is no recall. 800.00 repair according to the dealer.Without an alternative, I am considering ordering the assy and changing myself.
View 5 RepliesMy mechanic put in a button starter which works pretty good. It is "touchy" and I need to hit the gas just right to get it to catch. Once it starts it runs beautifully but the battery seems to drain instead of charge while driving. When I turn the car off,and then try to start it again, the battery sounds really low, and often dies before I can get it to turn over again. It fires right up with the first sign of a jump. The mechanic has looked for an ignition (says he cant find the right one). Other people have suggested an alternator or voltage regulator....or a short somewhere.
View 8 RepliesAt about 92k miles (2 months ago), my 2005 Prius started having a battery issue... When going about 40 mph and above and not having to stop or apply my brakes, my battery would drain (to just 1-2 bars) in about 5-10 minutes and not recharge until I got into stop-and-go traffic (this would happen about 9 out of 10 times). Mpg was still pretty good during that time, but when I finally had to stop, the engine had to kick on to recharge the battery and my mpg just sucked...I went from averaging 45 mph to 39 mph.
I took my car into the dealership for them to have a look and to also perform my 95k service. When I told them that I feared the battery was dying, they said that the good news was that I had another year on my warranty (not sure if the battery warranty is extended in California). The service advisor eventually came back and stated that they had also observed the battery charging problem and that they had to pinpoint the exact problem (either an igniter, a battery cell, or something else that I can't remember). They even started the process of getting me a rental car for a couple of days.
However, the service advisor then came back and stated that no problem was found...he even walked me back into the garage where they were working on all of the cars just to ask the technician working on my car if there was a problem...he also stated that no problem was found. When I asked how initially a problem was found and then suddenly not found, I really didn't get a straight answer (I should have pressed harder). Anyway...after 10 hours in the shop, they pulled my car around and the manager came out to speak to me...stating how the 95k service showed no problems and how no problem with the battery was found. When I asked about how to prove to them that there really was an issue, he stated that if the problem kept occurring I could bring it back in and they could have one of their tech leads drive it home for the night as kind of a road test.
Just trying to get a list of possible reasons my car is acting funny. I may have one problem or more than one problem.
-The dashboard lights started going on and off intermittently while driving. I could feel the power steering was off but the engine never shut off. This happened first while I was running the A/C, but eventually started happening when the A/C was off. When the A/C was on, the car made a funny squeal sound then more of a grinding. The A/C stopped blowing cold air.
-The same thing would happen when driving through water/rain (the dashboard lights would come on and it felt like the car died but it didnt).
-The other night, the SRS light came on, cars electrical started shutting off. Car died. Jump started it, it ran for a couple miles, then died again. This happened the whole 12 mile trip home.
-Mechanic came over, said it was my battery. Replaced battery. Car died again 3 days later. I noticed the lights on the dashboard came on more while making a turn, but they came on while driving too, so idk if that is a good assumption.
I got the Battery discharge warning massage today, I was listening to xm in the car for about 5 minutes on engine set to ACC and the Battery discharge warning massage came on and tells me to run system while the engine is running. Am I not suppose to be on ACC if I just want to listen to music?
View 17 RepliesThere is what appears to be an icon on my touch display that resembles the battery icon on my smart phone. Currently is has one red bar lit up. I have not been able to find anywhere in the owners manual what this battery icon means and what to do when it is red.

Variable-Displacement Compressor (no clutch, anyway, so that's what I'm assuming)
Is it OKAY to drive the car without refrigerant to circulate lubricating oil, or am I going to be looking at a new compressor in a few years?
A week ago, a grasshopper put a hole in the condenser. Yes, a friggen BUG, complete with bug guts and wings stuck around the tiny dent and pinhole. I'm arguing with Hyundai over the warranty coverage, they say "outside forces" and I'm saying "defective part or crappy engineering"...
The dealer's service writer said there would be no problem driving the car while we wait for parts, as long as we didn't turn the AC on. Okay, it's not summer anymore, but doesn't the compressor want to be on in DEFROST setting? Supposedly the system won't try and turn on the compressor if it's low on charge, but...being a variable displacement compressor with no clutch...
My parking brake light came on while driving. The car would coast at a low speed OK, so I think the brake was not on.
This happened in Yellowstone National Park at altitudes above 7,600 ft. and happened 4,000 miles ago and hasn't happened since. Taking the car in for an oil change today and I am going to ask about it.
Had driven about 3 miles, engine warmed up. Stopped at the store for about 5 minutes and cut motor off. I started engine, put in drive and after about 20 ft., the motor cut off. Luckily I was in a parking lot and coasted to a stop. Started up again and everything seemed ok. One thing I did notice was after the cutoff, all dash icons, (oil, brake, engine, etc) were on. I especially noticed the key icon, indicating key was not in car, was on. What happened? Is this something that I should have the dealer look at? I doubt they could ever replicate it.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2016 Sonata Sport. My logos on my radio will be there when I start the car and when I start to drive they disappear. I have tried to reset my radio using the little reset button but nothing seems to fix the problem permanently.
View 3 RepliesThis happened around 3pm yesterday on Limited 2.0T.
I had Hyundai Navigation going to see what the 3D view looked like (8" display on map fullscreen), along with my iPod Classic playing music. On the instrument cluster, I started cycling quickly through the tabs on the center LCD starting from the MPG/speed page to the navigation page (via the menu button on the steering wheel). I overshot it and cycled through again.
I was doing this very quickly when the whole instrument cluster restarted as if the engine was off and turned back on. The LCD and numbers on speedo and tach completely went out, the needles on speedo and tach went to zero and returned (while cluster was still off), and the cluster did a system check, with all icons displaying for a second then turning off and the System Check screen displaying on center LCD.
In addition, I previously had AUTO HOLD on and when the instrument cluster restarted, AUTO HOLD was displayed in red and could not be turned off or activated (car would not auto hold) and the traction control icon (I believe) stayed on. The main 8" display was unaffected when all this happened.
I was able to turn the car off and back on later and everything seemed fine after. It freaked me out quite a bit, especially when all this happened while I was driving.
On my limited sometimes when I am driving randomly and a car is in front of me but not far up my collision warning signal goes off.
It's only happened about 4-5 times and I am not sure what sets it off or how it even really works?
The sunroof seems to squeak a lot while driving on bumpy/ uneven roads.
Before I didn't know where the squeaking sound was coming from, I assumed it was from the doors. But when I opened up the sunroof the squeaks went away and when I closed it the squeaks came back. The sound is so irritating sometimes that I am forced to drive with the sunroof open.
Have any of you noticed the collision warning popping up on the dash while driving? The first couple of times I missed what was popping up since I was busy driving and not getting into a collision. The last time, however, I did notice. A car was making a right turn up ahead and had almost stopped in the lane..
View 17 RepliesAs I am driving the steering wheel will randomly lock for about 2 seconds. It has happened while changing lanes on the highway, also happening while making turns in intersections. Took it in to the dealer, all they did was clear the code and give it back to me. I have notified Hyundai Customer Care and they are supposed to contact me but right now the car is unsafe to drive.
View 50 RepliesI've been noticing an oil burning smell after driving recently, it's been going on for a few days now. My oil level is good, I have 8,500 miles on the car. Today I finally had a chance to look under the hood for any visible leaks, and I noticed some oil stains on what I think is the valve cover gasket.
