I notice it now for awhile this whining noise coming from the engine. It sounds like bearing noise to me. The car is still under warranty till 12 Oct 13. So if needs a fix, it have to happen soon.
View 4 RepliesI bought the car with it a bit over 3 months ago, that was the only problem and simply couldn't pass the deal. Even used car dealer didn't know what it was.
You can only hear it when you go over 50-55+ mph and it comes from cabin air filter area.
I already changed cabin air filter, the other day I replaced filter tray as well due to broken clips. Cleaned the whole area real good and still can't get it to stop whining.
I have a 2006 sonata gls 3.3l v6. There is a whining/slight squeaking noise coming from the drive belt when i turn the car on. When the noise started it would only occur when turning with the AC or Heat on. It then escalated to whenever i started the car and would go away after driving for a while. Now the noise continues even after a drive sometimes..
I've been told by a mechanic friend that the belt looks ok. So my plan is to take the passenger side tire off and the splash guard on that side to get at the tensioner for the belt. Once I have the belt off i plan on turning the various pulleys that the serpentine belt goes on to see if i can figure out which one is making the noise. How to pinpoint where the noise is coming from?

Any way, my 2007 Sonata with 57,000 miles just developed a whining noise on the right side of the engine compartment. It sounds like it is concurrent with RPM and I thought it might be the alternator, the drive belt or some pulley. I have even seen on the general internet that some others had a bad oil filter. To me, the noise seems to be coming from the alternator area. It is a relatively high pitched noise that almost sounds like an electric motor. Would love to get it fixed. I am nearing the 60,000 max on replacement from certain items and do not know if the alternator is covered.

Went to dealership. They removed the oil pan and found metal shavings there .The car has 90,000 miles. They will put a new short block (will be covered by warranty ).
Since they basicaly will disassemble the whole engine, I thought to ask them to replace also drive belts, timing chain tensioner, not sure if the short block comes with the water pump , will ask them . W
Have a 2007 3.3/V6. Had whining noise in steering. Replaced reservoir and fluid. Still has noise and steering is worse. Probably will replace pump next as it has 220k miles. Alldata shows the pump being located on top of motor near reservoir which is incorrect. Appears to be on bottom of engine close to firewall. Is this correct? Do you have to remove plastic wheel well to get to it?
View 5 RepliesRecently when I first start my car in the morning, there is a rattling noise, which sounds like it's coming from the driver's side of the engine bay, or possibly just under the drivers side door. It only lasts for a couple of minutes. It will increase I accelerate, and then decrease as soon as I lift off the gas. After a couple minutes, the rattling goes away, and everything is right in the world. Today I drove it around the block and parked while it was still rattling away. When I put it in park the rattling went away. I put it back in drive and it came back. Then as usual it finally went away whether in drive or park. I'm completely stumped on this one. It's an '08 2.4l GLS and has 138,000 miles.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4L. This problem started several weeks ago. When I turn on the ignition on the car, I hear a squeaking noise coming from the engine initially. Once the engine warms up, the squeaking sound lessen but does not go away. When I shift my automatic transmission to DRIVE, and press the accelerator, I hear squeaking noise coming from the engine again. I stopped my car and opened the hood. I could hear the squeaking noise coming from the front left of my car, if you are facing forward the front of the car. I do not know much about cars but I think it is coming from the fan belt/serpentine belt, or possibly alternator but I am really not sure.
Presently, the sound has gotten worse so I want to fix this as quickly as possible. I am second owner and the mileage on the car is 45,550.
I recently noticed a noise coming from the left side of the engine where the pulley's are. It sounds like a ticking noise coming from where the belt is. What the possible solution could be.
View 6 RepliesAfter it has been sitting overnight, I hear a somewhat high pitched whine while driving the car. It seems to go away after the car warms up a bit (maybe I can't hear it). Here are a few other details
a. 2006 Sonata 3.3 V6, ~85K miles on the odo
b. Transmission fluid flushed at Valvoline ~2 weeks ago. I changed it at 39K miles when I bought it. Checked at 78k miles and the color was was good (light red).
c. The noise goes up and down with engine rpm. I have a sound (wav) recording of it, but cannot figure how to attach it.
d. I tried putting it in park and neutral and revving the cold engine, but cannot hear the whine-only happens in drive.
e. Engine oil changed every 3-5k (wife drives it, so I'm not always prompt).
It shifts smoothly (always has) and otherwise drives well.
2006 Sonata 3.3 V6 with 101,000 miles. At a cold start there is a loud whining noise coming from the engine on the passenger side. After the car warms up the whining goes away. The car has not had any noise before. It is progressively getting worse.

Now Is it anything I should worry about? Car has 72000 on it. Always used synthetic Mobil 1 5w 30.
This is on a completely cold start up, 30 degrees outside. Only makes the noise until car warms up. Anything I can do to prevent this? Or is it not something to worry about? Should I just let the car warm up a little before I drive it?

My 06 3.3 is having a problem with the pulleys. A few days ago something squealed, like a loose belt squeal. I put it off, then when I started it up this morning, I heard a clanging noise coming from the engine, and the battery light turned on. I checked everything out and saw that there is a pulley broken off which is rattling around the crankshaft pulley. I figured it was a pulley that had broken off, but all 7 pulleys in the car are present and accounted for. Incidentally, the serpentine belt is way loose, which would be why the car lost power and eventually died. Am I completely lost or did an 8th pulley magically appear in my engine.
View 4 RepliesI got a 2006 3.3l v6 sonata and for the past 6 month I have no had reverse which sucks let me tell you but I've looked into my codes it's throwing out. Anyway when I throw it in reverse it doesn't lock on it just spins making a kind of whining sound,
And when I'm driving it I take my foot off the gas or I slowly push the break it will jump down to third gear and get stuck I'll be doing 40mph at 4K RPMs, what this could be or what I should do?
Turned my car (07 SE v7 with 240k on the clock) on this AM and there was a high pitched whine coming right from the engine bay - matched to the revs of the car, regardless of gear.
This is a new noise to me and the car - but I'm assuming it's some kind of belt issue.
I just picked up a 20th about a month ago. It has 50k on it and recently I've noticed a faint whining coming from under the hood, most noticeable under idle and it changes pitch when I turn the wheel. I check the P/S fluid and it was low so I topped it off and I believe it has improved a bit but not too sure because I haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet. The steering does feel a little heavy but I figured that's normal because, well it's not a cadillac.
View 1 RepliesI've got 2013 es 350 with 10,000 miles on now. I have recently noticed that there was whining/whirring noise coming from the engine(I guess) while accelerating up to 45 mph. It seems that the noise goes along with the RPM since it gets louder when accelerating. It makes same noise when decelerating from 30 mph and it goes away when the car stops. A friend of mine drove the car once before but did not hear anything until I told him about the noise, so I guess it is not very noticeable to some people. At the 10,000 miles check up at the dealer, I mentioned about it and they said they did not hear anything, but I know for sure there is whirring/whining noise.
View 14 RepliesSo I had all of my belts changed including timing belt and tensioner pulley as well as an oil change. After, I noticed a weird pulsating grinding/wining noise coming from the engine bay. It only can be heard once the car is warmed up. (It is much louder in real life.).

I have a 2006 lexus es 330 that just turned over 90,000 miles. My dad and I have done the regular maintenance on it so far but this weekend after a 3 hour drive, I turned the car back on and a loud whirring/humming/whining noise was coming from the engine. It gets slightly louder with acceleration, but I can barely hear it once I've picked up speed (but it's still there.) It still happens when I am in neutral. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine. Close to the power steering pump area, but the power steering fluid is full (although it is a very dark/black color and has a slight smell...not sure if this is normal.) I'm not having any trouble or hesitation while steering. The rack is operating smoothly and it is not leaking. I plan on taking it into the shop but wanted to go in educated.

I recently just had my first timing belt, water pump, and other belts changed 2 months ago with no problems at all. Recently, my engine just started making an annoying "whining" noise. It almost sounds like a bad transmission or something. However, it makes the same sound in "idle" and whenever I rev the engine the whining noise gets louder. I know the noise is coming from the left side of the engine and I think it may be my alternator dying. When I move the steering wheel around the sound does not get any worse too.
