I have a 06 sonata v6 with 120k. Today while driving the car started to lose power then the lights on the dash board flickered radio went nuts and the car lost all power. What could be causing this? Moved battery a little bit and got power back but then started driving and it did the same thing. I did have the heater on 2. You can feel it lose power while accelerating.
View 6 RepliesI was driving my 2006 Prius on the highway (120,000 miles on it). I'd been driving about 10 minutes and all of a sudden, the dash warning lights lit up.
Red triangle with exclamation point.
Yellow circle with exclamation point.
Yello check engine.
The car did NOT lose power. It kept driving fine with no noticeable change in how it operated. Fuel consumption stayed the same. Braking worked fine. I had a completely full tank of gas (had just filled it up before I got on the highway). Temperature outside about around 60 degrees.
I kept driving to my destination (another 20 miles at highway speeds). The car sat parked for about 3 hours. I returned to the car, started it up. The same warning lights appeared, except for the Yellow circle with exclamation point. Plus, this time I noticed on the energy monitor screen the graphic of the red car with the exclamation point.
Again though, everything seemed to be working fine. While the car had been parked for 3 hours I did some browsing through the owner's manual and saw a notation that is the warning lights were only yellow and not red that it was okay to proceed with caution to the nearest dealer.
Just trying to get a list of possible reasons my car is acting funny. I may have one problem or more than one problem.
-The dashboard lights started going on and off intermittently while driving. I could feel the power steering was off but the engine never shut off. This happened first while I was running the A/C, but eventually started happening when the A/C was off. When the A/C was on, the car made a funny squeal sound then more of a grinding. The A/C stopped blowing cold air.
-The same thing would happen when driving through water/rain (the dashboard lights would come on and it felt like the car died but it didnt).
-The other night, the SRS light came on, cars electrical started shutting off. Car died. Jump started it, it ran for a couple miles, then died again. This happened the whole 12 mile trip home.
-Mechanic came over, said it was my battery. Replaced battery. Car died again 3 days later. I noticed the lights on the dashboard came on more while making a turn, but they came on while driving too, so idk if that is a good assumption.
I have a 2006 sonata and my alarm light on my dash board is blinking rapidly and then my blinker lights will turn on and stay on for a few seconds then it does everything all over again. My car has never done any of this except a slow blink in the red LED alarm light. I don't want my battery to die! Is there anything wrong with my car or is this normal?
View 1 RepliesMy wife's 2006 Honda CR-V has developed a mysterious issue where every minutes, and I mean to the second every 15 minutes, the car behaves as if the ignition switch was turned to the OFF position shutting off the engine. After about 10 seconds, the dashboard light blink as if the key has been turned to the ON and then we can start it. If we try to start it before the dash lights blink, the starter turns but nothing else happens. The immoblizer has been inspected and ruled out and, there are no error codes in the computer.
View 6 RepliesSo i have a 2005 Sonata GLS and it has been giving me issues. A week or so ago, the 'check engine' came on so I took it to the shop to have it fix. Problem fix, no more light popping up. Now two days ago, the car all of a sudden started stalling and hesitating while I was driving. I kept pressing the gas and the car will accelerate to 40 before slowing down to 20 and the acceleration will then drop as well. I had a mechanic look at the issue and he said it was the throttle position sensor. He changed the sensor and its still acting up. He said to buy the carburetor cleaner and it worked fine for a hour until we drove it again. The problem is still not fix.
View 3 RepliesComing home from the coast last night, my car started to hiccup and lose power. I had to pull over to the side of the road as no matter how much throttle I applied the car kept losing speed. The car was acting like it wasn't getting any fuel. Once stopped on the side of the road I revved the engine for about a minute and it picked back up. I drove the remaining forty miles home without further incident. Went out today to drive to the car and my car won't start. It will turn over, but will not start... again feels like it's not getting any fuel.
View 9 RepliesWas doing nitrous passes the other day and all of a sudden the car started to lose power. I let off the gas and the rpm's got lower and lower, until I cut the car off. Let the car sit for a bit and tried to restart. Car will turn over but will not start. Threw two odes p0300 random misfire, and p0101 mass or volume air flow circuit range/performance problem. I also smelled slight burning for just a second. I am thinking it has to be MAF or a burned up plug. Has to be air, spark or fuel related. Any of the nitrous guys out there ever run into anything like this? Want to eliminate the small things first. Hoping there isn't a larger issue.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 Mazda 2, 1.5L w/automatic trans. The car only has 1800 miles on it. The other day i was driving it when the car started to lose power and then stalled out. I coasted to a stop. When I tried to restart the car it idled roughly and only in the 200-300rpm range. When I put in gear it would stall out. I let it sit for about 15 minutes and then was able to restart the car with no issue. Since then I put on another 40 miles with no problem.
Before the car stalled I had driven it for about 30 miles with the first 15 miles on the interstate. It was 100+ degrees outside and I was running the air. I have taken the car to the Mazda dealer but I am concerned that they will not be able to locate the problem since now the car seems to be running fine. What could be causing this problem?
My dash board lights up for no reason. All the lights -- seat belt, engine, oil, etc. Also the speedometer goes from 0 to 100, the RMP needle goes from 0 to whatever and my gas tank need goes from empty to full to back to empty. In addition it is now loosing power --no gas is getting where ever so I must pump gas peddle to get it going again. It usually lasts only seconds and there is NO rhyme or reason to when it does it. I left it with a dealership and they drove it 265 miles and it did nothing. I got it back and within 48 hours it started doing it again. They did put in a new instrument cluster and it still continues.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 F350, 7.3. My service engine light came on and immediately the truck started to run rough and lose some power. I've checked the under the cover connections and they were both connected, I replaced the cam position sensor and I still have the same problem. The worse part of the hold thing is that there are no codes stored so I'm flying bind. Where to go next.
View 8 RepliesNew prob for my 2006 Sonata 3.3 L. After I drive it for 5 to 30 minutes, the ESC Off light comes on. Prior to it coming on the ESC off button appears to work fine, and if I peel out from a stop the ESC system seems to work fine. The only thing I have done recently was change the battery and the drivers low beam headlight. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery again, but same prob. Is it time to just take it into the shop? BTW, I already had the recalled brake/stop light switch replaced over 6 months ago.
View 13 RepliesMy 1999 F250 V10 has started to lose power off and on. It will run fine then when I stop at a light or sign, then when I take off it runs like I pulling something heavy. If I stop again it goes back to normal sometimes. 161000 miles. No check engine light is on. Motor idles perfect and sounds great. I don't know anything about motors...
View 4 RepliesVery loud timing chain noise in my Mitsubishi 2.6 engine. It has 105k miles on it. I ordered a new complete timing chain kit and oil pump from an online autoparts store. The parts arrived here and scheduled an appointment to have those parts put in today. While driving the van to the repair shop, it broke down about 4 miles from my house. I started to lose power on the highway then a loud screeching noise, similar sound to a belt going bad or slipping. The temp gauge started to climb rapidly. I immediately shut off the van and pulled over. It was towed back home and wouldn't restart. Battery was weak. I charged the battery for three hours and the van started again. This time it runs incredibly rough. The whole van shakes badly when in gear (also the loud timing chain noise). I also noticed an oil leak on the ground on the passenger side, in the area of the timing chain/oil pump area.
View 1 RepliesI saw two older posts regarding no dash board lights. It is super cold here as in minus 3 degrees. Somewhat unusual for Kansas. When I started my car I had no dash board instrument lights but the MPG monitor does work. Also when I tried to shut down the power button wouldnt turn the car off and consequently the key would not release. I took it to Toyota and he told my I had the dimmer turned down(I had already tried turning it several times) to the off position. He put a new battery in the key remote and things seemed to work fine. This morning it was another sub-zero day and the same problems happened all over again. This time they diagnosed a sealed junction box on the driver side that has poor connections that seem fail due to the cold weather that needs to be replaced. It will all start all over again when it sits over night in the cold.

Twice while I was driving down the road my car suddenly acted like it was going to stall, the dummy lights all went off, the AC and radio both shut off, and the clock reset. I cleaned the terminals and checked the codes but nothing came up and it happened one more time.
View 4 RepliesMy daughter drives a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse. About 6 months ago, she noticed that occasionally when driving over a bump in the road her brakes lose pressure. The pedal goes nearly to the floor and the car is harder to stop. After a few days/weeks, the brakes return to normal. I was skeptical at first, but drove the car after one such incident and confirmed the lack of pressure. However, a Mitsubishi dealership couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes while a specialty brake shop wanted to replace the master cylinder.
View 12 RepliesI have a 99 F 250 7.3. It runs fine at idle even for a long time. When I drive around the block a couple of times it will start chugging and lose power and shut off. I have been mixing fryer oil with the diesel. I changed the fuel filter, oil change, crank sensor and fuel pump. I added 15 gallons of diesel and diesel treatment. Pulled fuel filter and bowel is full I'm not sure where to look next.
View 1 RepliesToday in NY the temp in the morning was 0 d F. As I started up the car I hear a rough aggressive movement coming from the engine compartment then the Ready sign, beeping and the check engine light, (Giant red triangle ! Emergency sign), and the (!) sign.
I turned it off and one 3 times same thing, I decided to leave it and turned back home, then I noticed the battery level dropped to 2 bars from like 5 bars within 5 minutes. I did/was able to move the car back and then forth just to see if it would work, but the normal engine never came back on(on the computer screen).
If you are driving in 2wd and lose power to wheels is it possible the transfer case is the problem and not the transmission? This was in a 1995 Ford Explorer 4x4 automatic transmission.
View 4 RepliesI wanted to share my current ordeal with my ES 350. I was driving my 2008 ES 350 on freeway when check air conditioning words flickered on my NAV and started getting warm air. Not sure whats going on, i switched it off. After few minutes i got Check VSC and the sign for VSC lit up on the display.
At this point I called my lexus dealer while driving. They told me that i should bring the car in etc. After few minutes, the check engine light came on, then i pulled over on the shoulder and called Lexus again. Then I thought I should at least get off the freeway. But when I tried to start the car, nothing happened. Brake pedal was stiff and nothing when tried to start the car.
I just called AAA for tow, called Lexus dealer again and explained to them that i am bringing the car over. The dealer called back and said engine overheated and needs to be replaced and possibly transmission too. I was really surprised.
My car has 86K on it and all services performed as expected.
