At the beginning it was just CEL on. I checked the code and change transmission range sensor but it worked for few days only. Light came back and transmission sometimes stop to shift automatically. D1 on display and driving only on first gear, but when I switch to tiptronic - manually everything works great?!

View 7 RepliesI recently did a C6 rebuild on my 78 4X4. After the rebuild, when I go for a drive, the transmission does not AUTOMATICALLY shift out of 1st.
1. I can shift MANUALLY from 1st to 2nd with no problem, but it never goes into 3rd in D. If it was a system pressure issue, I suspect that I couldn't engage at all?
2. In Drive it just seems to be in 1st the whole time no matter how high the rpm.
3. I checked the vacuum at the modulator and I get 18 in .
4. I have tried every color modulator band and have the black one in now.
5. During the rebuild, I cleaned the governor, so I don't think it would be jammed up since it wouldn't shift even when I first drove it.
6. During the rebuild, I cleaned the valve body.
7. I confirmed the kick down is free.
8. I get a hard shift in reverse and from 2nd to 1st, but when I go to Drive, and then second, I dont notice a hard kick. Could it be that I messed up the orientation of the front clutch seal? (I hope this isn't the case!)
Here is the last couple of things I can do:
1. Could the intermediate band be the issue if I can shift in manual if it's not shifting hard?
2. The mechanic said it could still be a governor gunked up, but I'm skeptical since it never worked after the cleaning.
3. The filter screen pan from the rebuild seems to sit higher than the original that has a pipe that hangs lower. Is this the suction or the return from the system. If it's the suction I can put the original in.
Is it bad to drive her in manual if I need to? Obviously I'll keep the speed low since I can't get into 3rd. When I air pressure tested the transmission before the install, everything engaged like it was supposed to and all of my clearances were solid.
For a while now my transmission has only been able to shift manually for about the first mile of travel when cold or if it sits for more than a couple of hrs.
I drove it that way for a while. Now it only shifts manually all the time and I have to shift from 2nd straight to overdrive. It won't shift to 3rd but stays in second gear until I shift to OD. Then I do have OD.
is it possible to get the heated seats to come on from a cold start automatically?
If i turned the car off with the seat heaters ON and then used my remote starter; i want them to come on without me having to push the button.
When I open any of the doors, the interior lights are not coming on automatically. If I turn them on manually, they work fine. Is there a switch that controls this or possibly a blown fuse?
View 7 Replies4 cylinder Sonata with 177k miles on it. When I first get in the car and drive away the transmission doesn't want to shift up. I have a manu matic type shifter so I usually just shift up as the RPMS reach the normal shift point. Eventually the transmission starts working but sometimes it acts up and I'm back to shifting myself. Sometimes it shifts hard or double shifts. I'm getting conflicting info from different mechanics. Some say change the transmission fluid and that should fix it. Others say don't because it could open up a bigger can of worms and I will be buying a new transmission shortly after. What should I do?? I can't afford a new car nor can I afford to buy a new transmission.

Background ... Wednesday night, transmission started shifting funny. It felt like a delayed shift. RPMs increased by a few hundred before a harder engagement into the next gear. More noticeable between 2-3, 3-4. Also harder engagements in down shifting. Thursday, same shifting problem and CEL came on. I couldn't find my scan tool, so stopped by Autozone. Registered a P0711 (Transmission Fluid Temp sensor circuit). Called the dealership yesterday and dropped vehicle off. Picked up last night. According to the paperwork, the code that was present was a P0705 (Switch Assy-Transmission Range). Supposedly, the sensor was replaced and code cleared.
Driving home, the CEL was / is currently off. However, the transmission still isn't shifting properly. I am fully expecting the CEL to come back on. Never had an issue with the transmission indicator lights next to the shift selector (which I believe the P0705 symptoms were). On the printout I got from the dealership, it states "PLEASE NOTE GDS PRINTER NOT WORKING BEING REPAIR NO PRINTOUT AVAILABLE". I think dealership is just looking to milk some money from Hyundai.
Side note.... OE battery, which was replaced with another OEM when I bought the car 1 year ago, was replaced with a Die Hard yesterday.
Don't recall exactly how long this has been going on, maybe a month. Between 20-45 mph, car sounds like it should shift. It finally does at 45 and all is well. But when I am in a 35 mph zone, the whining noise is scary. Is this serious?

Two months ago I realized that my transmission shift occasionally while I am driving, especially when the weather is cold and I park my vehicle for more than one day. Then my engine check light came, after two days it went off. I went to the dealership and ask for a multi-point inspection (without telling the inspector the transmission problem), they recommend a transmission fluid flush, then I went to an auto part shop to ask for reading engine check light code, they see P0711. After researches online, I understand this code is about transmission fluid or transmission fluid sensor defect.
My question is that, would a dirty transmission fluid cause the P0711 code, as some people stated online ?
Ok, So my car wont come out of park unless you do the manual override. I recently put a new battery in the car and accidentally put it on backwards. I was lucky enough not to burn the ECU as the car starts and still drives but the ABS and ESC lights are on along with the BRAKE light.

It winds up to 4K rpm and doesn't shift properly for 1/2 mile or more. It will shift fine after. I purchased this 6 weeks ago and have had it to my mechanic and back to the dealer. Neither has been able to get to duplicate the problem. The fluid is dark and gritty according to my mechanic. The dealer said it is fine and fluid should last for 100K miles. What should I do?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2006 hyundai sonata, which has possibly the worst designed cup holder of all time. Because of this awful design flaw, I stopped my car at a light yesterday and some of my coffee spilled into the gear shift box. Now when I am in regular D, it appears the car stays in 1st gear. This sonata also has the option of pushing the stick to the right so you can manually shift gears.. I think it's called sports mode or something. When I try that, I can shift it up to 2nd, but I drops right back down to 1. I left it overnight, hoping it was just some wet electronics and would dry, but this morning the problem persists. Not sure if there's a fix for this, if I should take it to a transmission place, or just my regular mechanic. Someone suggested contact cleaner, which I might have I just have to look.

I had reported this grinding noise when I turn left a month back. Was thinking because of my worn out tyres, but apparently not.
I have had my 06 Passat 2.0t into the dealer twice and they have been unable to resolve a rough shift issue between 1st and 2nd. The first time they replaced the camshaft and cam follower (which makes no sense to me), the second time they said they did a software update.
I was under the impression that the software update to fix the rough shift removed the gear indicator in the MFD, but mine is still there. Each time when I get it back the transmission is much smoother for a couple days but progressively gets worse to the point I don't like driving my car (which I loved driving before this issue started).
I have read about a TSB being issued that advised a software update and the replacement of the valve body to resolve this, but I can't find the number for it.
I have a 2010 accent blue model with stick shift. been fine for 50k miles. Lately i have noticed an issue where i am in first gear and then when i push clutch in to go into second, the lever won't budge. it does eventually go in but it just isn't like it used to be. it happens say about 25% of the time. Since at higher rpms it won't do it but normal rpms it will.
Also, i just had a new short block installed, perhaps something is binding? If I sit in the car, stopped, i can shift into and out of all the gears perfectly. Maybe my 1st gear synchros are going?
Earlier this year, I worked with my dealer to get a new automatic transmission for my 2007 Accent. I had only had the car for a couple months (purchased used, from my Grandmother who I knew, if anything, had probably been TOO gentle with it.) Only about 40,000km. I found the car extremely hesitant to shift on cool mornings, and allowing the engine to warm up first didn't make much difference. The 2-3 shift was especially late.
The last straw was when, on a frosty morning, the transmission failed to engage 3rd, bucked back out to find 2nd again, and then got 3rd on the next try. It did this a couple of mornings before I was done negotiating with the dealer, who ultimately agreed to supply a new transmission if I paid labour. This despite the car being just outside the 5-year powertrain warranty. I was quite satisfied.
So I enjoy the Summer with no problems -- only the barest hint of transmission "morning sickness", but only if I'm rushing it. I figure "that's an economy car for you". Now that cooler Fall weather has begun, I'm convinced that the new transmission behaves the same way as the first one. I haven't had the "bucking out of gear" problem yet, but the 2-3 shift is already a real dog on cool mornings.
I have a 1994 C-1500 4.3L with a 4L60E transmission. After driving for 30-40 minutes it loses 1st gear and you have to manually shift between gears. R, 2, D and OD can be manually selected but there is no automatic up or down shifting. There isn't any gear slipping prior to this. After sitting for 25-30 minutes everything works fine. I have noticed that sometimes before the problem occurs that if i manually select 1st gear it will stay in 1st & sometimes it will automatically shift to 2nd even though the gear selector is in 1st. Also it usually shifts into D at about 30 mph but sometimes it stays in 2nd until I manually shift down to 2nd and back up to D. It isn't giving any relevant codes (use jumper & flash codes). I'm thinking possibly faulty solenoid(s), but not sure.
