This afternoon while I was driving home from work I heard a minor squeak so I put the windows up and the radio off. t I heard my brake pedals chirp. It's a small minor squeak, but I hear it and it's bothering me. Am I over thinking this?
View 20 RepliesWhen I press the brake pedal, the car will stop. But if I keep pressing it while the car is stopped, the pedal wants to keep going towards the floor. I have to press hard for it to do this. I have bled the brakes. I've checked the calipers and the hoses for leaks and don't see anything. The master cylinder is topped up and I don't see any fluid underneath it. It doesn't appear to be leaking. The funny thing is, when I turn the engine off and press the pedal, the pedal comes to a stop and doesn't want to move after I pressed on it as hard as I can.
View 2 RepliesMy dad drives an '06 Sonata. And he recently broke a brake line and had gotten it fixed. His current problem is that his brake pedal hasn't returned after getting the line fixed. What can he do to fix that? The pedal is really low and is spongy. And his ABS and ESC lights are also on.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata GLS 4cyl. Anyhow lately my brake pedal is going right to the floor. The brakes seem to work fine, but if I keep constant pressure on the pedal it will slowly go all the way to the floor. My rear rotors and pads have been changed a couple of months ago and I'm pretty sure my front brakes are good. What could be causing this? I also checked underneath the car for leaks and there doesn't seem to be anything leaking underneath.
View 6 RepliesI drive almost all the time in stop and go traffic and my knee hurts because the brake pedal is too high. My wife also noticed that the brake pedal is unusually high. Is there any adjustment I can make to lower the brake pedal?
View 2 RepliesMy Sonata 2008 2.4 produces a single click as I press brake pedal, somewhere half way through. You can hear it and feel it with your foot. I think it clicks somewhere inside the hydraulic system of the brake.
View 13 RepliesSo I took the pads off and saw pistons that push caliper against rotor were to far out to install new pads. (rear pads were still intact, both front pads were out when i pumped) So im pumped the brakes thinking it would reset them and alls it did was push the fronts out more.. I noticed fluid leaked out of the pistons after fully pushing them out.
After seeing that pushing the pedal only pushed them out and didn't reset them, i pryed them in with a C wrench. Was quite difficult but managed to do it. Note I only did this on the front pads..
Rear was just fine, piston went back in easily. I filled brake fluid fully and still does it - Now pedal hits the floor when i first hit it and seems very light when braking.
I have only 42k km or 26 k miles. Brake stops but soft. The brake pedal sink if you apply pressure after a stop. Feels like someone open a valve. The pedal go to very low. I am find the stopping power is poor. Brake fluid is brownish. I hope it is not the master cylinder.
View 20 RepliesI just noticed it this morning. When I step on my brake pedal, all 3 brake lights activate, then they start to sporadically blink, I don't think it's a fuse problem, since the 3rd brake light also blinks, and I believe it runs independent of the regular brake lights.
What to check.. No codes are being listed, checked that with my Scangauge II already. (2006 GLS)
I've got a strange noise coming from the front brakes. It's not the wear indicator, and it's not a worn out rotor.
When I apply the brakes firmly, they work great. No noise, good stopping power, the pedal is nice and firm. As soon as I let off the pedal, there's a little chirping noise, like a tiny bird in my wheels... I've looked at the pads and rotors, and there's no obvious sign of damage or wear.
My guess is it's the caliper pins or piston making the noise. I'm happy to take it apart and lube it, but what kind of lube is specified for this? Moly grease? Lithium grease? Some kind of oil? And do I apply it only to the caliper pins, or to the piston as well?
I looked on HMA service, but I can't seem to find anything to address this specific problem.
A month ago my ESC light started coming on and the dealership replaced the brake pedal switch per the recall.
Here in the last week or so, I've noticed the brake pedal is very sensitive now and will sometimes stick causing the brake lights to say on after the car is turned off.
Pushing on the pedal just a little bit (pushing down maybe less than 1/8") will cause the brake lights to turn on and also kick the cruse control off.
I'm considering buying a used '06 Sonata LX with 137k miles, and the front suspension squeaks badly. I read the entire thread about replacing upper control arms to see what I might get into if I purchase as-is, and while it honestly doesn't seem too bad I know other problems may lurk. Would you buy this car with a squeaky suspension, or would you expect the seller to fix it first? Would you insist on them replacing all front UCA + LCA + struts + mounts + alignment at the same time? Any issues to worry about with the rear?
The car was amazingly clean and well-cared for overall. It was parked outside and the interior and exterior look better than my '05 Magnum that was garaged! I did notice rust on the wiper arms, one screw that was out of the passenger rear grab handle (above door). Also the seller told me the front passenger door lock won't work electronically 98% of the time, and the drivers rear lock won't work 70% of the time. I'm assuming the solenoids are bad or something is stuck - I can see the locks twitch a little bit when I depress the lock/unlock switch, but not enough to actuate the locks.

In the winter time the front passenger side is very squeaky, esp when going over bumps...
I had it into a shop to have a wheel bearing done and they said the balljoints needed to be replaced...
Well, all that did was firm things up, the ride was just as squeaky...
Now in summer, it's not nearly as bad... First thing in the morning there's some squeak over bumps but nothing like it is in the winter...
What the heck would this be?
I have noticed what I can best describe as a squeaky noise that appears to be coming from the rear of the vehicle. At first I thought it was the breaks, (as most of the time when I left off the breaks after being stopped I hear the noise), but I also notice the noise while turning and also when getting into my car to sit in the seat (Or pushing down on the rear of the car). Almost sounds like something in the suspension needs to be lubricated (a bushing perhaps)?
View 1 RepliesSo I have an 06 Sonata with 56k miles on it. A few months back it started squeaking by the struts. It got worse last month and was pretty loud when going over speed bumps. Especially in the mornings
During my research on replacing them I came across a you tube video of a guy using AT-205 resealer to fix the squeak. Of course I bought some and was about to try it out but noticed that there was a lot of dirt and grime around the struts and other rubber mounts.
I decided before using the AT-205 I should clean everything first. Took some degreaser and sprayed everything I could see, including any other rubber mounts in the area. Rinsed thoroughly with water. Let it dry overnight and before applying the AT-205 decided to see if there was any change. To my surprise, there is no more squeaking. (It has only been 2 days though).
Hopefully it will not come back otherwise will use the AT-205 and failing that, will have to take the plunge and replace the struts.
So I already changed the Driver Side upper Control arm. But there is still squeaky noises coming from the trunk area, esp at low speeds going over small hills and small pot holes. I saw this is common on our cars and wanted to know which parts were to be replaced. At 110k, is it worth repairing piece by piece or should I do the shocks, ball joints and such at once.
View 1 RepliesI have an 06 sonata and have no brake lights and the constant ESC off light staying on. After reading countless threads on here I see that the brake light switch was recalled on these and this is extremely common problem with this year and model. I went to my local shop bought a brand new switch, installed it properly and still the lights won't come on. I changed the fuses as well. Emergency lights, and the tail lights when the headlights are on come on but no brake lights. My next guess is the bulbs? they look ok. But I had a dodge caravan where both bulbs went out before at the same time so is that a possibility with this?
View 3 RepliesESC Off & Brake Light keep appearing intermittently. When I turn the car off and then back on, they go off. This has happened about 5 or 6 times in the last week.
I want to take it to the dealer but I just know I'll get a, "cannot duplicate problem" from them because it doesn't happen all the time. I'm going on a trip in two weeks and I don't want to run into problems on the road.
After losing 4 bulbs trying to put the new light in from the bottom on my 07 Sonata's high brake light, I finally figured out, that if you take a dremel or other small cutting tool and cut of the tab on the bulb socket, the whole assembly will slide back into place from the top. Cut the tab even with the holes where the two wires go into the socket, and you should have no problems.
View 23 RepliesI was at a stop light. The light turned green and I let off the brake. Just then the car died while I was in drive. I couldn't put it in park. I was a little panicky. It broke down on a major road in morning traffic. I tried starting the car. Nothing. I think I managed to move the shifter into neutral and tried starting the car again. Not a problem this time. Maybe a few minutes had lapsed. It bothers me of course because I've only made 4 payments on it and I'm planning on a trip out of town this weekend. After I dropped my son off I made it home without incident. What caused this?
