I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS with 118k and just recently my car has started vibrating while going uphill past 55mph. On level ground it's just fine, but when I go uphill the whole car starts to shake. I've checked the motor mounts and they all look good with no cracking (replaced them last year for engine shaking at idle). My only other guess is a bad CV axle. The CV axles are not ripped.

Just noticed the last few days that my car has developed a shake when accelerating, but stops after a certain speed. It isn't bad yet, but when I started going up a hill today it was significantly worse. The entire car started shaking, but stop after the car leveled out.
I just put in a new front left and right axle two weeks ago, would that have caused anything ?
My 2006 Sonata GLS headlights dim along with the entire lighting electrical system when my car slows down past 1500 RPM. Why??? I had the car worked on 2 weeks after i got it because of this and they replaced a timing chain thinking this was the problem, but it wasn't.

About 30min ago when when I parked the shifter would not move past neutral into reverse and go into park. I can go from D into neutral or the next slot over for manual shifting. Naturally this causes a problem as you can't take the key out of the ignition if its not in park.
I took a screw driver and popped open the cap for the shift release button and used that to move it into park. Turned car off, back on, etc etc seemed fine. So when I tried moving it into reverse and it wouldn't budge. It instead would make a electronic click or snap coming form the steering column but more back toward the engine. Like more into the dash area but back in it. It would make this noise every time I attempted to move it but it wasn't a continuous sound. Just once with each jerk to the side to move it out of park.
So the car works fine except for this. I used it with the screw driver/shift release to unlock it and it drives fine. Goes into reverse and back in park but if I move it into neutral or drive it will not go back into reverse or park.
Today on my way to work my 1993 ford ranger would shift fine but would refuse to go over 35mph and shook pretty bad. I don't know where to start...

View 11 RepliesMy 06 sonata's steering wheel recently started shaking when I am braking from speeds of 80+ also a little when going down really steep hills. This happened once before when I got new front tires because the tire shop didn't balance the tires correctly. I know it could also mean warped rotors but in my experience rotors only become warped when you drive them with really low pads. Btw the car has 46k miles on it, and it is a 3.3 liter v6 gls.
View 9 RepliesI've noticed my car starting to shake when I'm in the speed range of 40 to 50 but really feel it at 45. I don't think it's a balance issue with tires because anything faster or slower it doesn't shake. The shake sensation I feel is on the front left side and I feel it mainly in sterling wheel but you can feel it throughout the car.

If so where would I start to look to try to fix this issue or how to lessen the feel. Also is there anyway to make the steering wheel more stiff it shakes while hitting a considerable speed.

I changed the engine for my 2001 Prius ( imported used from Japan ). The engine used to shake few seconds after starting then shuts off. The Mechanist did many things, including changing the Spark Plugs, fuel injectors, adjusting the Timing Belt sync, Cleaning MAF, Updating ( Or Upgrading the soft ware ), Adding fuel Injector cleaner with the Fuel.
Now the engine shakes . It stays on, then runs fine. But when I go up hill the Check Engine and Triangle go on. There are no codes. it only says Engine Poor power.
I travel this interstate route often that is somewhat hilly. I always use cruise control. When I got my 2007 Sonata (I4) 4 speed A/T and traveled on this road I never noticed much down shifting. Later my daughter bought a 2010 Sonata (I4) 5 speed A/T, and on this road I noticed the Xmission downshifting sometimes. When I got my 2013 (I4) 6 speed A/T, I started noticing it more often downshifting. I'm sure thats since the final drive ratio is much higher in each successive car. When my wife is driving she doesn't notice but I can tell even from the passenger seat. I can stop the downshifting by putting it in manual mode. but I see the RPMs increase somewhat. I assume thats from the TC lockup disengaging and the CC trying to maintain speed if a long hill. I suppose if the hill was long enough and steep enough that I would eventually lose speed but that doesn't occur(very much). If that is more economically that letting it just go ahead and downshift. Am I the only one annoyed by this constant up/down shifting?
View 21 RepliesI've been noticing a metal type 'clanking' sound whenever I am gently accelerating up a hill on my 2.4L.
It doesn't happen all the time though. It's not the usual GDI ticking sound. It can be heard when the windows are open but yet I can not tell where the sound is coming from. It doesn't happen enough that I can replicate it so I haven't taken it in for a check. The car drives fine though.
Sounds when going up a hill? Not sure if it's from the engine or from the transmission getting confused trying to change to the right gear. Perhaps the sound is just normal...
I have a 2006 chevy malibu 2.2 ecotec 4 cyl with ~130,000 miles and i am experiencing the following symptoms:
Car will not rev past 4000 RPMs or go over 70mph. I do have a check engine light with the following two codes: P0068(throttle position) and P0420(cat efficiency)
My question is instead of just replacing the cat where can i take my car (i live in tulsa, ok) to have the cat and the sensors checked before they are written off as bad?
I just picked up a Sport. I've noticed 1,2 quick stutter type thing happening intermittently at highway speed going up a hill. Dealer service probably won't be able to have it happen as it only has happened 3 times in my 400 miles.

Sometimes when accelerating, and almost always when accelerating uphill, the vehicle makes a noise that I can best describe as sounding like a grumbling or rattle from the engine. It almost has a "diesel engine" sound to it. I have noticed this going back to when the vehicle was brand new, but I have recently noticed it more.
View 11 RepliesBeen trying to save my miles on my 2011 GLS because I'm right at 100k (99.2K to be exact) and had a feeling something would be going wrong soon. Already had short block replacement, both CV axles replaced, steering columns, seized calipers, transmission sensors, and other repairs all done under warranty work for this stinker.
Driving to work today hear a clunk as I am driving uphill, tachometer immediately goes to zero, engine begins violently shaking, and traction control light comes on for some reason. Had my OBD scanner already plugged in and it pulls P0336 code for a crankshaft position sensor. Fortunately was close enough to home so that I drove it back and took the train to work. Probably going to take it to dealership tonight. The clunk and violent idle leads me to believe its more than a sensor problem. Car has had issues shifting over past month, but was so sporadic and not able to ever be replicated. Would maybe have a hard shift once every 2 weeks. That's about it.
My VSC and check engine light have come on. In addition now the auto trans will not shift past 4 gear with in auto or with me doing it manually. My local shop who has worked on this car before and is very good put the computer reader on it and got a P0500 for vehicle speed sensor "A". Today they put it on the real monitor and it reads a different code that says check engine code but does not reveal the code to read.
I really don't want to go to my dealer and get it hard. The car has 175,000 and until now has run great. I tried the gas cap fix to no avail. The shop did a reset when i first got there and it last 75 yards.
I bought the car with 117k and never since my possession bothered to service it. Why? I kept putting it off well at 165k I said heck ill do it. Currently at 170k my gear wont shift past third and its reoccurring almost daily. When I first bought it it was intermittent. I think the late service messed it up. Here's the thing, aamco will open up my pan and look at my solenoids which is 250ish.
View 14 RepliesMy aunt recently purchased a new 2016 sonata trim is se, I believe its the base model version, I test drove her car after she bought it home from the dealer and noticed right away that when I release the brake pedal from a dead stop, foot off the brake but not on the gas pedal yet, the engine hesitates / shakes. This happens most of the time but not all of the time. I noticed this when the car had only 100 miles on it...is this a Hyundai feature?
View 49 RepliesI own a 2002 and 2011 GS and put the 22" wheels on both. The are very hard to maintain due to put holes, (235/30/22 tire) (22-8.5 rims) flat off set slightly. Very slight rub when turn uphill. I just don't know if it will hurt car such a transmission or engine. Mostly concerned about my 2011.
View 1 RepliesThe issue that I'm having is that when going up hills, the car like automatically starts slowing down basically losing power seems like. I have to put it in low gear and even so it sounds like its straining to get up the hill. No more than 20mph and then begins to drop lower. When going up drive way I have to make a complete stop and then proceed else it will stall. Also, when at stand still in traffic car shuts off. Sometimes I can feel it vibrate before it shuts off other times it just shuts off. took to western auto and they don't know whats wrong with any of the issues. They just said there is nothing wrong with my idle and to put a gas cleaner in when i full the tank up, that didn't work.
