I have been getting this scraping noise coming from my front passenger side tire. At first it would only happen during the winter time and has gotten progressively worse. Now it will do it during left turns and at very low speeds when I'm turning the wheel also.... I checked to see if the tire was getting hot, and if there was anything hanging underneath, and found nothing.

is kind hard to describe the nature of the sound.
mostly happen when i go over broken road or bumps where the suspension have to move up and down a little but very quickly
Hyundai Sonata 2006 Front susp noise
I'm in the market for an '09 Sonata 4cyl. I found a good looking one at a local Toyota dealership (supposed trade in). Unfortunately, the dealer claims there are no service records available...test drove it and heard noise coming from rear suspension when going over speed bumps. Dealer had tech look into it and said they lubed up the 'springs' and stabilizer/sway bar and now the noise is gone. Should I run away or take this thing in for an independent inspection, and if it checks out, buy it without the service records?
View 3 RepliesI seem to be having a front end noise that only started up a few weeks ago.. The suspension doesn't make any noise over small bumps, only for larger ones. It makes the most noise when pulling into a drive way or something with a steeper grade from a flat street.
The noise I am experiencing sounds more like a scraping. It's not the power steering pump and it's not the brakes. Also, nothing is under the car that would cause this type of noise. It doesn't click or sound like a CV joint, I know what that sounds like. It also has no affect on any other performance of the car. I have tried jumping/pushing down on the car and it cannot seemed to be re-produced. Where I can start looking?
My car's rear suspension bushes are getting torn and are making squeaking noise in bumps. I am able to get bush for trailing arm and stabiliser bar. My dealer says that i have to replace the whole knuckle assembly as the bush for that part are not available separately. Is this true or the dealer is trying to earn some quick bucks?
View 2 RepliesI bought a 09 Sonata GLS in July, really nice other than dash noise, what has been described as crackle. Briefly, my sonata is makes crackling noise going over small bumps, more pronounced in colder temp. I have taken it in to the dealer 4 times, problem still persist. According to the dealer, Hyundai regional office knows of my problem, and there is no fix for it at this time. I just bought the vehicle and I am suppose to live with it?????
View 69 Repliesmy '06 Honda CRV makes a short scraping sound when turning. But more interestingly, it only makes this sound when the car has just been started. If I've been driving, the sound will not occur. The sound itself is a short scrape which seems to originate in the rear passenger side of the vehicle. I've researched this problem a bit, but everything I've turned up is related to the AWD model, while my CRV is 2WD. Just had the brakes serviced and checked, so that's out as well.
View 2 RepliesI have been noticing a slight noise when turning left and I cannot recall if this is normal or not. Typically I always play music when driving. It's very faint and sounds like scraping. Seems to come and go depending on the temp....that is when warmer I do not hear it. I got less than 1000 miles left on the warranty and would like to get opinions if it necessary to take into the shop. Btw, the shop wants $125 to walk in the door...hence the hesitation.
Prius 2006 99200 miles. Never had an issue.
I have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Toyota Solara with 145,000 miles. When I make a right turn, there is a scraping sound like metal against metal. Its not loud or shrieking. Its hard to hear over talk radio. But in the garage I can hear it, and its been getting louder. I haven't changed or replaced the tires in awhile or had any other work done to the right tire since long before the noise started. Is this something serious that requires immediate attention or is it some loose piece of plastic?

View 6 RepliesI noticed that the driver side front wheel makes a metallic scraping noise while the car is turning right. It sounds like something scraping the rotor or shield behind the rotor ( a rotational/moving kind of scraping noise)
This only happens on a relatively sharp turn (wheel is turned 70~80% to the right). I don't suspect the power steering as there is no noise if the car is not moving even when wheel is turned to extremes. The scraping noise happens at any speed, as long as the car is moving. does not happen when car is turning left.
Note that I am 90% certain it is from the front... my ears may be playing a trick on me (kind of hard to listen precisely while driving). Where to start looking?
Hit a long 4x4 post on the freeway and bent a front rim. Was able to miss most of it but hit it with the right tires. It didn't hit anything under the car that I can tell. Got a new rim and moved the TPMS and tire to the new rim. Back wheel looks ok. Still have a low pressure light. TPMS was lit when I had the bad wheel out of the car but is now out.
Have previously had trouble with another wheel giving a warning when it was only a pound or two low. Checked all the wheels and added a few pounds to each and still have the light.
How do I troubleshoot the TPMS? How long should the batteries last - is this just normal life of the sensors? It's a 2009 model.
Also have some noise and rattles I didn't have before. Not when going straight but when turning and accelerating at the same time. Hoping its just some shields and nothing too serious... I looked and didn't see anything obviously loose so I need to dig into it a bit more.
When I accelerate from stop the left wheel it like makes a "clicking" noise as the car starts accelerating, once in motion there is no "clicking". What might cause it?

1) Odd noise coming from steering column while turning.
2) Vanity mirror on driver's side, the lid/flap thingy does not stay open.
3) Trunk only opens when using key. Using FOB of door button does not work. You can hear movement but it does not open.
I'm getting a squeaking/creaking noise from the front when turning and over some bumps. It has ST coilovers already and read a post from the previous owner here and he said the noise started after the install and he was told ot was the upper mounts??? Does this sound correct?? Also i noticed it when parked and just turning the wheel back and forth, popped the hood and had my son turn it and it did sound like it was coming from the upper strut area....
View 12 RepliesAbout a month ago my 2006 Mazda3 (35,000 mi) started making loud creaking sounds everytime I turned and went over a bump. I took it into two mechanic shops and they both said the struts in the front were leaking fluid and needed to be replaced, in addition to the mounts and the swaybar link. I had all of this done, but when I got my car back it was making a new, very loud, clunking sound that I could also feel on one side when I drove over bumps. The sound was similar to the noise your car makes when the undercarriage hits the ground over a bump. I immediately took it back in, and the mechanic told me that the set of struts he had installed were "bad" and that he would put in new ones. This was done this weekend, but now my car is making the original creaking and groaning sound it did before, except much more audibly now. My car groans and creaks even if I turn the wheel while motionless.
I've heard that cars need time to "settle" into new struts. Does my car just need time to adjust?
We have a 2006 Acura MDX, 96K miles, well maintained. It has started making a disturbing scraping/grinding/humming noise from under the car, driver's side. It's random, sporadic, usually for 3 to 5 seconds; doesn't seem to be related to speed, braking or turning; sometimes barely perceptible, sometimes very loud. It drives fine. Wheel bearing maybe?
View 1 RepliesWhen braking, my car seems to break/slow down just fine...but right before the car comes to a complete stop, i hear a, dare i say, scraping/grinding noise. I found it odd. When going really slow and braking, it does it too. Otherwise, I'd say the brakes work ok. It doesn't make the sound every time when coming to a stop, but i'd say more times then not.
