Over the last couple of days, my 2009 Sonata V6 has developed what I best can describe as a rattling noise near the engine when I am accelerating the vehicle (noise changes based on throttle input). I only hear the noise with the car in drive, if I shift into Neutral or when I am in Park I don't hear the noise when I rev the engine.

View 9 RepliesLately I have been hearing a rattling noise from the bottom of my car, when it's in park I can barely hear it but I know its there, but when i put it in drive or reverse it gets worse. Could it be that the exhaust heat shield is loose? Or worse? I had my Tranny fluid flused at 142,000 mi i'm at 144,000.
View 9 RepliesMy car just hit 111k miles last week! I have the 2006 sonata V6 LX, new spark plugs n new cats at 65k. So today I got to school for my final and realized the car was making a weird noise.
The noise is barely there on low revs, but when I rev a tiny bit it becomes very noticeable, and gets rattles faster to a certain point, but i think after like 2.5-3k revs kinda goes away(kinda because I don't know if its because i cannot hear it over the engine noise) and then when i let off it rattles on the rev down and then gets silent for a split sec and then back the low rev rattle.
What i understand it could be belts, pully's, the timing belt tensioner?
I have the 2006 v6, and so i think the seal for the front of the engine has issues for the year, so there is an maybe very slow oil seeping thru, it had stained the front left of the engine above the alternator, but has been like this since 50k miles when i first noticed it and no problems
And also i have 2 12" 1000w rms subs in the trunk, so could it be the alternator that can make that kind of noise?
I have a 07 Hyundai sonata that has a rattling noise only during acceleration and only at just under 2000 rpm's. I went to a mechanic who checked the heat shields and exhaust only to tell me it was in the transaxel and sent me to a transmission shop. the transmission shop told me they think its the hydraulic lifters, and sent me elsewhere.
View 1 RepliesRecently my engine started making a rattling noise. It does not matter if the engine is warm or cold. In either condition it produces the same noise. The noise can be best heard at the back of the engine. My car is a Sonata 2.4 GLS from 2006 and has roughly 110000km on the odometer.

View 6 RepliesToday I noticed a pinging noise on the highway when accelerating around 60 mph. It certainly doesn't sound like its coming from the lower end and it happened with the engine fully warmed up. I've always changed the oil on time, never has it overheated and it performs very well otherwise, no power losses.
No check engine light is on. In fact, I have heard this same noise on older cars I have owned (Cutlass Ciera) around the same mileage 105000. I am thinking of adding an oil additive, and I have heard that 1 Qt of ATF fluid followed by a drain and refill works well.
I might also do a fuel system purge, BG's has a good machine for that Could this be an EGR issue? Replacing EGR valve? If so was it easy and where is it located. I am hoping I didn't break a valve spring....
Recently when I first start my car in the morning, there is a rattling noise, which sounds like it's coming from the driver's side of the engine bay, or possibly just under the drivers side door. It only lasts for a couple of minutes. It will increase I accelerate, and then decrease as soon as I lift off the gas. After a couple minutes, the rattling goes away, and everything is right in the world. Today I drove it around the block and parked while it was still rattling away. When I put it in park the rattling went away. I put it back in drive and it came back. Then as usual it finally went away whether in drive or park. I'm completely stumped on this one. It's an '08 2.4l GLS and has 138,000 miles.
View 9 RepliesTonight while driving and accelerating fairly hard we began to hear a noise. The car sat parked for roughly 5 hours and then we began to drive it home (apx. 12-15 miles). About halfway through the drive the power steering went out and the battery light came on. The battery light would turn off and the drivers seatbelt light would come on even while it was buckled. These two lights alternated being on and off 2 times each. We heard something that sounded like a rock got kicked up into a wheel well. After getting the car home with no power steering we noticed the car had begun to run very hot. almost all the way up the gauge.
View 4 RepliesI have a high milage (210K) '07 2.4L which has a slight engine rattling noise at idle RPM at cold and operating temps, in gear or park. It is a fairly constant noise at idle but does vary a little. Otherwise, engine/tranny operate beautifully with no obvious problems.
I am concerned this could be a timing chain/tensioner related issue although I also wonder if it may be some other component. I have not been able to determine the source or location of the sound.
So, I changed my spark plugs a couple of months ago and did the pcv valve swap as well. Now I have this high pitched rattling noise, like a tiny chain rattling. It is coming from the engine bay - in the area between the throttle body and the firewall. At least that's where I can hear it.
It does it quickly right after I start the engine (though I am certain it is not a timing chain issue)...I had that fixed a while back. Also it doesn't sound like the timing chain tensioner noise.
I am thinking maybe the pcv valve that I swapped out. I remember reading that a new one should make some noise when you shake it...an old, gunked one would not rattle if you shook it in your hands. Consequently, this noise sounds a lot like if I would shake the pvc valve back and forth very fast.
It happens intermittently on idle....and when I rev the engine, it will also make the noise while the RPM falls back down. Since this happened literally right after I did the spark plug change and the pcv valve, my guess is it's that. Maybe I didn't install it correctly.
Hit a long 4x4 post on the freeway and bent a front rim. Was able to miss most of it but hit it with the right tires. It didn't hit anything under the car that I can tell. Got a new rim and moved the TPMS and tire to the new rim. Back wheel looks ok. Still have a low pressure light. TPMS was lit when I had the bad wheel out of the car but is now out.
Have previously had trouble with another wheel giving a warning when it was only a pound or two low. Checked all the wheels and added a few pounds to each and still have the light.
How do I troubleshoot the TPMS? How long should the batteries last - is this just normal life of the sensors? It's a 2009 model.
Also have some noise and rattles I didn't have before. Not when going straight but when turning and accelerating at the same time. Hoping its just some shields and nothing too serious... I looked and didn't see anything obviously loose so I need to dig into it a bit more.
When I accelerate from stop the left wheel it like makes a "clicking" noise as the car starts accelerating, once in motion there is no "clicking". What might cause it?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata 3.3 V6 GLS (CDN model) with 102k km (63K miles). Recently, I am noticing a rotational metal-like grinding noise from the front left wheel / engine area when engaging in hard right and left turns - usually a long looped highway on-ramp or sharp 90 degree turns. The interesting thing is this only happens when I am accelerating through the turns - when I left off the gas and cruise I don't hear it anymore.
On the side, I am also getting a single clunk noise when shifting from Park to Drive and vice versa from the same area (front left wheel) - not sure if this is related (i.e. if this is all related to a failing CV joint or wheel bearing).
2007 Sonata 3.3. Crunching, clunking noise at low speeds, braking or accelerating away from stop lights. Noise disappears at speeds over 25-30 mph. Noise can be replicated by rocking car forward and backward while in park, with engine turned off. Rocking side to side does not reproduce noise. Bouncing car suspension at all four corners does not reproduce noise. Hood open, rocking forward and backwards, noise seems to be coming from behind engine, and with hand on engine motion can be felt. I'm thinking engine mount, but how can I get a good look at it to check?
View 3 RepliesI have an 04 celica gt with around 168 k miles on it. Recently I have noticed a distinct metal on metal rattling noise whenever I accelerate at low speeds. It seems to be my exhaust as when I rev it up in park it makes the noise. But it doesn't ever make the noise when I'm on the expressway or cruising at back roads speeds. When I got under and looked at my exhaust everything looked normal?
View 3 RepliesMy 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited make a rattling noise when accelerating. Only does it sometimes. Sounds like something is loose under vehicle. Does not make noise when in park and revving engine. Checked under Jeep and found nothing loose.
View 4 RepliesI'm new to the VW family as a couple weeks ago I purchased a 2003 VR6 Jetta. So far I LOVE it and it's been by far my favorite car I've driven. About a week ago, I was visiting my parents back home (I'm a college student) and when I went to turn on my car to go back to school I received the alternator workshop message. I didn't want to take the risk so I took my sister's car back to school and my dad took my car into a local mechanic during the week.
Unfortunately, the mechanic we took the car too does not specialize in European cars (They're just a general mechanic/Ford dealership), but we didn't want to take the risk of driving a car with a potentially failing alternator to the closest VW mechanic (About 40 minutes away). The car was repaired and a new alternator added. All was going well, but I began to notice a slight "clunking" noise when first accelerating/lifting my foot off the brakes. I didn't think too much of it and it wasn't very loud nor severe. To me, it sounded like the interior plastic shifting when I moved.
Anyway, here I am a week later and I'm noticing a lot of noises that didn't exist before, including the clunk I just mentioned. I took a few audio recordings. (For the record, there is NO CEL or any dash lights currently on, thus why I'm not as concerned).

In this link, I'm driving the car around the parking lot in which I park my car here at school. It's mostly bumping gravel, but at the time of the recording I was driving very slow. You can hear a squeaking noise.

In this link, I'm revving the car while parked. Something I've noticed that it didn't used to do is rattle while idling ever so slightly (It's not audible in the recording), but in the recording you are able to hear a slight clunking noise.
I have about 72k miles on my Highlander, which we purchased certified through a dealer in May. At the time of purchase, we noted an intermittent rattling noise, but didn't think much of it. It has increased in frequency and in volume since that time. I have had it to the dealership four times now to have it fixed. They have replaced the heat shield on the exhaust, tightened my license plates and today replaced my catalytic converter (at no cost to me) Imagine my dismay upon driving home and again hearing the rattle. When they decided the rattle was related to the catalytic converter, they were essentially banging around my car with the handle of a hammer and trying to replicate the rattle...needless to say, I am a little concerned that the techs are unable to determine the root of the problem, much less fix it. It seems to be correlated to some degree with a certain RPM. It sounds as if something is loose somewhere, but that place is a mystery to at least four different techs (all of whom I have driven around so that they could hear the sound and who still cannot identify it).
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 RX350 with about 243,000kms on it. I recently purchased this car and everything is great on it except one thing. As of late, I've begun to take notice that when I accelerate from a stand still (for example after stopping at a light/stop sign), a loud rattling/grinding starts and then as I pick up speed and change gears, it fades away. The sound is more rattling than grinding. As if there is a metal bowl with some smalls stones in it and someone is just shaking that. There is also another sub issue that I'm having. There seems to be a clicking noise every time I apply the brakes or even accelerate. The same clicking noise reoccurs every time I put the gear into drive from neutral. However, when I do that, there is only click as opposed to braking/accelerating, where there are many. I'm hoping this is all part of the same issue and not isolated issues.
