Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Power Steering Hose Leak?
May 3, 2013
I've got a 2006 Sonata LX, that has been leaking PS fluid for a while, but has gotten quite a bit worse lately. I finally put it up on ramps, and crawled underneath, and from what I can see, I think it's leaking from the pressure hose someplace.
The hose is covered with some type of a silver wrap. I wiped everything down as much as I could with a rag, waited for an hour, then crawled back underneath. There was some new fluid on the hose wrapping right above where it goes into the steering gear box (the driver-side leg of the hose).
Does this sound like it could be the hose? Would it be ok to remove the protective wrap to make sure? it's only wire-tied on to secure it, so I don't see why not.

I have a 2006 RX 330 with 116,000 miles. I noticed that i had a leak and the power steering oil level was low. I went under the car and looks like the power steering hose is leaking. The dealer wants $352 for hose and $325 for labor. I called auto parts stores and they say its a dealer item only. Someone told me I could have a hose company rebuild it for a lot less.

I smelled antifreeze when walking by my fiances Sonata, so I popped the hood and saw there was a small leak from the upper radiator hose, where it meets the thermostat housing. I adjusted the stock clamp, but the leak was much worse.
I swapped it out for new clamp that you can tighten, and all is well again. But, what I noticed when I had it off was that the metal neck of the housing was really corroded. Only 15,000 on the car, so I was surprised to see that the corrosion on the metal had already built up causing the leak (pushing the hose away from the housing). I scraped and scuffed to get it clean again, but just wanted to give you all the heads up in case you notice a leak in the same area. The antifreeze tested good and is really clean.

Just had dealer repair shop complete power steering fluid flush in Jan 2013. Vehicle now has lost all power steering fluid (April 2013) and dealer repair shop has told me it is due to high pressure hose failure - need to replace & then verify pump condition (dealer repair shop not sure if pump bad until hose replaced to test) for repair bill.. I was told this was not related to repair shop power steering flush because this hose not removed for flush or part of that procedure (at which time a transmission flush & spark plugs replaced (minor tune-up) . Just wondering if any pro mechanic can respond with advice about the relative close time frame these two events & if there may be a probable related reason?

I have a really small leak coming from the lower end of my power steering hose, it's super small, I was wondering if I could fix this by wiping it down really well and dry, and then layering it with plasti-dip. I think the leak is small/slow enough for me to get in a few good layers. Would this be an okay fix, or would the plasti-dip separate fast?

I have a 2006 Camry 4 cylinder. The bigger rubber hose coming out from the power steering fluid reservoir has been leaking for quite some time now. I've tried putting a second clamp on it which has worked but hasn't stopped the leak completely. As far as I understand, the big hose has a certain bend to it so I can't just get any rubber hose from an auto parts store and chug it in.
It is leaking all over the nearby surface:
I need to identify the part number for that power steering rubber hose so that I can replace it once and for all. Once the power steering fluid leaks out, my steering starts groaning whenever I turn it.

Just started to leak, evidence on the ground. No noise when turning or driving. The shop said I needed entire rack and pinion but only put the car on lift no other testing. Is this urgent meaning need to get fixed tomorrow? Do I need an entire rack and pinion? Can parts get fixed in the power steering and not the entire thing? They quoted me $1575.00 but I found the rack/pinion part online for $350.00.
I don't drive the car much why did this start?

I have had my 06 Sonata for about 3 years now. It has about 52,000 miles on it and it seems like over the past couple months the power steering has gotten louder. I checked the fluid and it is fine. My brother had a ford taurus that always had loud power steering but never presented any problems. Mine has never presented any problems either, it just seems like it has gotten louder. my question is, should I be concerned that it may lead to trouble in the future?

Check out the pics, noticed car was overheating, let it cool down, got it home and found this broken hose (it was a crack in the hose before I broke it all the way taking the throttle body off). What is the part number for this hose and what else I should be looking for now that the car overheated?

Filled up my power steering every 3 days this week. Finally climbed under the car and saw this. How difficult or expensive this will be to fix? Is it just replacing the rubber boot or is it more severe?

I recently replaced the harmonic balancer on my 06 sonata v6.... the rubber was separating from the pulley. About 2 days later, i notice the power steering pump whining, so i checked the fluid and it was at the correct level. I have 98k miles, is it safe to assume i just need to change the power steering pump, is it possible anything else could be causing this problem? I doubt it is related to the crank pulley change, probably more a coincidence but wanted some opinions. Also, if it is the power steering pump.

I've got a 2010 base with the 4 cylinder. When you make a turn (mostly right, but sometimes left) through puddles the power steering and alternator temporarily go out. I believe it is a belt/power failure as a result of the water being splashed into the area - none-the-less, it's a potentially very dangerous situation.
I did a quick check and it looks like all the plastic is there and in good shape. I do realize there is an engine splash guard on this model and it is in place.
A footnote - the car did take a light hit in the front before I bought it. It was "patched" together and sold. They didn't do a terrible job (as it looks ok), but you can tell "things" aren't perfect.
Since the splash guard is in place - What should I be looking for?

For a few months, I've noticed a problem with my power steering...that now seems to be getting worse. When driving at 70mph on the highway, I would notice sometimes as I ightsto slow down to exit the highway that my power steering would be gone. I'd get down the exit ramp, hit my first stop light, and usually the power steering would be back on. This would happen intermittently.
It's been happening more often, and I have now found that it doesn't only happen on the highway; yesterday this happened twice at probably 50mph and it took a few blocks for it to reengage. What the cause of this might be?

I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Recently there has been a squealing noise coming from the pulley on the power steering pump. I would start when the car was cold but then go away when the engine warmed up. Lately it is squealing continuously. It does not get more intense when I turn, it just seems to be there constantly now. If this is the pump or just an idler pulley?

My daughter's 2007 Sonata 4 cyl (88k miles) has an occasional power steering loss. It has only been noticed right after slowing down from highway speed. Total loss for a few seconds then comes back. No dash lights or noises, just steers like an old classic without power steering - then can.
This is kind or a repeat post from another individual but he had a V6.
SBR711 recommended replacing the Harmonic balancer and I am inclined to do so but parts guy at Hyundai said that typically is not an issue in the 4 cyl model. So he does not keep item on hand.
Fluid is fine, clean and proper level. No screeching etc..

I've got about 80K miles on my '06 Sonata and the weather conditions were on the very wet side.
At first I thought I heard a squealing sound which I just credited to either a radio or windshield wiper sound while cruising through some twisty coastal roads. The rain was coming down pretty good and a small amount of standing water of already on the road.
As I continued my drive I began to notice an occasional loss of power steering for a split second through some turns accompanied by that same belt squealing sound. At the same time the battery light also came on for a split second which indicated to me possible engine failure for a split second. Even though it was for only a split second it really freaked me out to think I could end up crossing the center lane or over into the ditch. I then slowed my pace for the rest of the trip. When I stopped for gas I popped the hood and things appeared to be normal and with plenty of power steering fluid.

I'm having a serious problem with my 2-year old 09 Sonata....
It happened for the third time: after driving for a couple minutes, numerous dashboard signals flared up and my power steering suddenly seemed to turn off - all in the middle of driving. The first two times I took the car in, they found problems. One of the malfunctioning components was the timing belt, and they replaced it for us. After the third time, however, they couldn't find any problems and my car was deemed "perfectly normal." They didn't do anything for us.
Now, I'm left with a 'normal car' that I know will show the same problem sooner or later.. maybe in a more dangerous situation than the previous 3.

My high pressure power steering hose just blew at the "B" nut at the pump. Meaning, the fitting is still in the pump but the line is out. Do I need to replace the whole line or is there a retainer I can swap out?

Looking for a write-up on replacing the seals on the hose that leaks at the power steering pump? I replace them once but may of over tightened them. I pour in atf and see it dripping on drivers side of power steering pump. Can I just use regular o rings?

2 1/2 years ago I installed a BPD remote oil cooler with BPD filter. The stock oil cooler was clogging up for the second time and didnt want to chance it. The BPD oil cooler works great. I have never seen high oil temps in any driving condition. Last week I was replacing the hubs and seals on the front of the excursion and noticed the oil was leaking from the 90 at the end of the hose oil filter location. I called BPD and sent them a picture. The 90 is corroded and is failing. They said something about a 2 year warranty but because of the rust they would not send one out for free. I purchased a new hose and the other 90 that goes right after it.
They recommended that I spray it with undercoating or something. I live in upstate NY and deal with a lot of salt on the roads in winter. I do keep the truck clean in winter as much a possible. I am posting this so if there are any others in similar situation you should do something to prevent that 90 from rusting like mine did. If I had known this when we installed it prob would not be replacing it now. Will be replacing it tonight or tomorrow. BPD said I will need a 1 1/4 crow foot or remove the turbo to get to the other end of the hose. Not posting this to bash on BPD just sharing so any others can prevent this part from rusting out.
