My 2006 sonata 85,XXXX miles on the car and after putting the new rims on the car. I am feeling a bit of popping from my power steering at low speeds when turning. The Power steering has been squeaking for quite some time. I have never changed out the power steering fluid and was wondering if this could be the cause!
View 7 RepliesI have some noise coming from the front suspension. It is a popping/sorta creaking noise. I hear it mostly when turning, but sometimes while going straight. It is not a grinding sound, nor is it a high pitched sound. I took it to my mechanic, but they drove it and could not replicate the noise. They inspected the front end, and said everything looked fine. But I still hear the noise. The car has a little over 40k miles on it. No problems with the tires...no irregular wear, and no wandering. I looked at the front end, and didn't find anything obvious. I cannot replicate the noise just by pushing on the fenders up and down.
View 64 RepliesSo today, when I rolled down my passenger window (2007 Sonata GLS) to talk to someone, I heard a popping sound and the window refused to roll back up. I got the car home and started tearing into the door panel (okay, not literally). By viewing different threads here, I have the door panel off, outside handle is off, all screws loosened (including the 3 for the door latch) and am trying to get the inner sheet metal panel off.
From everything I've read, you need to roll the window up the whole way in order to get the inner panel off; however I cannot get the window up the whole way! By lifting up on it, I have it about 2/3 raised, but it won't budge any more. I have been able to see that the window cable is broken (which explains why the window won't raise), but am at a loss on how to proceed. I'm leery of trying to force the window up any more. I'm tempted to try to pry the inner panel back enough to get the two bolts holding the window loose, but don't want to force *that* either.
So, how to get the window all the way up? And/or the inner door panel off?
We have a 2008 NF, and have been experiencing popping noises from the drivers side near the door. Especially when it's been colder out, but in general.
The tie-rod ends, ball joints, and the struts have been replaced. The question is: What we is it likely to be?
The car has ~100k on it, so it was not really to surprising that those items would need to be replaced.
However, since I didn't have time to do it, we had someone else do the eval and work.
Are there any typical issues that stand out with the NF Sonata that would cause this based on what I've told you all?
It's a great car, but this is driving us nuts.
I've been hearing a popping noise occasional when reversing into a parking spot for about a year no, its like 3-8 pops each time. I looked at the CV joints and the rubber hosing is intact. I am pretty sure this particular noise now is not ball joints squeaking.
How long can I let this slide without replacing. Is the CV joint sold as one whole piece?
BTW I'm checking out the 2013 Sante-Fe....

View 5 RepliesI'm in the market for an '09 Sonata 4cyl. I found a good looking one at a local Toyota dealership (supposed trade in). Unfortunately, the dealer claims there are no service records available...test drove it and heard noise coming from rear suspension when going over speed bumps. Dealer had tech look into it and said they lubed up the 'springs' and stabilizer/sway bar and now the noise is gone. Should I run away or take this thing in for an independent inspection, and if it checks out, buy it without the service records?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 NF V6 Sonata Elite - for some time now there has been a sporadic clunking noise in and around the suspension or front drivers side wheel of my car. It got a lot worse a week ago when I took the car off sealed roads for a short distance, almost sounding like a CV that had gone. However a mechanic checked the car over a few days ago and found the CV was fine, as was the driveline. It seems to clunk more when turning, and when I put the power on or off. I also detect a slight vibration or hum coming from the area concerned when taking gentle bends at moderate speed on smooth roads. I can assume the wheel bearings are fine, although the mechanic I went to perhaps isn't very familiar with the make/model of car. They went around the suspension and tightened some of the struts, which made a small improvement I think, but the car is still making the noise. What was the cause of the noise if known?
View 4 RepliesI seem to be having a front end noise that only started up a few weeks ago.. The suspension doesn't make any noise over small bumps, only for larger ones. It makes the most noise when pulling into a drive way or something with a steeper grade from a flat street.
The noise I am experiencing sounds more like a scraping. It's not the power steering pump and it's not the brakes. Also, nothing is under the car that would cause this type of noise. It doesn't click or sound like a CV joint, I know what that sounds like. It also has no affect on any other performance of the car. I have tried jumping/pushing down on the car and it cannot seemed to be re-produced. Where I can start looking?
2006 Sonata 2.4 GLS. My car has done 60000 miles and has developed a creaking/knocking (metal on metal clunk) sound at the left rear. it is only noticeable at low speeds when accelerating and decelerating in stop start traffic.
It is not the shock as I have removed the shock and driven the car and the noise is still there, I have also looked at all the bushes and nothing is obvious. I have also checked tightness of all bolts/nuts.
My car's rear suspension bushes are getting torn and are making squeaking noise in bumps. I am able to get bush for trailing arm and stabiliser bar. My dealer says that i have to replace the whole knuckle assembly as the bush for that part are not available separately. Is this true or the dealer is trying to earn some quick bucks?
View 2 RepliesOk so I replaced my upper strut mount and my struts in the front along with the shocks in the rear.......... the squeak is still present when i go over a rougher bump and it is cold ..................SO i went on hma service and saw this...................
Symptom "Squeak or grunt-noise from the front suspension, occurs more in cold ambient temperatures-more noticeable over rough roads or when turning"
Suspect Area "Front stabilizer bar"
Remedy "Under these conditions, the noise is acceptable."
Wow so not acceptable i am going to try and lubricate this piece... Will report back

I purchased a 2010 Hyundai Blue 6 months ago. After one month of driving the rear suspension area would pop when placed in a bind. The sound will happen when going over a bump, through a dip in the road, when turning sharply..... The pop is more of a large loud twinging sound. I have taken it to the dealership three separate times with no fix.
First time, they stated my license plate was loose and creating the noise. I pulled out at the dealership, and the sound happened again. Took it back and then they stated they heard it, but did not know what it was. Took it a 3rd time, and they informed me they changed the shock on the driver side. The sound is still there. My husband states they lower the exhaust system but did not change the shock.
What this is caused by. I notified the dealer that it was still happening, and they asked me to bring it back and drive around with the tech in the car so they can observe it. Bad part is, it doesn't happen all the time. I can't make it happen. I want my car fixed. I do like it.
Looking for a suspension diagram that can be shared for this model? I need to fix the squeaking noise from front passenger side and would like to have an overview pic of the suspension system.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.
View 18 RepliesI've had my R sitting on KW variant 1 coils for about a month now. When I first installed the coils, I adjusted them WAY too low for my liking (looked flawless but wasnt practical for my driving conditions). On my first couple of drives, I noticed a "popping" sound at very low speeds (like when exiting a parking spot) when turning my steering wheel. It was as though my wheels would turn to a certain point and "pop," it sounds like something popped out of place. If I move my steering wheel back and forth to repeat the popping sound, the sound does NOT repeat (it only happens once in awhile).
With the car stationary, I have looked into the wheel wells with my friends turning the wheels and I dont see anything rubbing. I have since raised the car VERY slightly (still sits on about a 1/2 finger gap) and still, when I first get in the car in the morning and pull out of my garage, I hear this slight pop.
I am planning on doing the "tab mod" on my fenders this weekend because I am rubbing on the tab on high speed turns, but I don't think this has anything to do with the popping. The car drives fine and my friends and I have installed coils tons of times without any problems.
So I'm coming from the MK5, MK6, & CC/B6 Passat world. On those cars, they were notorious for having the front subframe "clunk" noise. The suframe would shift back & forth, creating a "clunk." This was VW's fix: [URL] ....
Anyways....I've noticed this about 5 times now I'm on my '13 Passat V6.....when I go to back up into a parking spot. And that's the ONLY time it's done it too.
Going from Drive, I put it into Reverse and then turn the wheel a little (NOT even all the way) and hear a "pop" or creak/clunk....definitely from the front. So my guess is that it's the subframe shifting. Only 400 miles on the car too, btw.
2001 vr6 manual... I have a popping noise that comes from my suspension. it is in the front, and it has gradually gotten worse over the last month or so. It used to happen when i back out of my drive way only, but now it happens when accelerating from a stop, quickly braking or turning at low speeds. Recently its getting worse and i can start to feel it in my steering wheel sometimes. It doesn't feel like a wheel bearing. Is it bushings? Tie rod? CV Joints? Strut Mount?

About a week ago I started getting a popping noise in the left rear suspension when going over speed bumps or up my driveway from the street at certain angles. I could not find any evidence of the springs binding, but did notice that there was some separation of rubber around the plastic center of the rubber mount beneath the spring. This likely the problem or loose sub frame bolts?
