Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Overheat Only While A/C Is On

Jun 25, 2015

I have an 2006 GLS 3.3 with 26,700 miles on it, any time I turn the A/C on the temp gauge shoots all the way up to the red. When I turn the A/C off it drops fast right back down to the middle. No radiator leaks, my coolant level is great in the reservoir, and I already looks and my radiator fan turns on anytime I turn the A/C on. I live in AZ and it's been 100+ outside and going to stay that way for the next few months. What might be causing this. Bad ground? Bad temp sensor?

Jeep - Liberty :: 2006 - Overheat Showing On Dashboard Temperature Gauge

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty 2wd (V6-3.7L) that is showing an overheat on the temperature gauge on the dashboard. I replaced the radiator (which I noticed had pin hole leaks), the water pump, thermostat, and the temperature gauge sensor. The car is no longer running through coolant, but the temperature gauge on the dash still reads an overheat. I do not have any bubbling when the engine is cool, no white smoke, the fan turns on just fine, a/c and heater work, no visible leaks, equal heat from both rubber hoses to and from the radiator and fluid seems to be passing through them.

There is also no smoke and no weird sounds from the engine. The overheat on the gauge comes after about 10 minutes of operation and happens whether I am driving on the highway or stopped at light. The only thing that causes the temperature gauge to go down to normal is turning on the heater full blast. Is this issue just a short in a wire somewhere? Should I start thinking head gasket? If yes to head gasket, should I use the "sealants" that are out on the market as a temporary fix?

Phaeton :: Coolant Overheat Warning Came On

Coolant overheat warning. Luckily, was moments from home so pulled in and stopped for about 6 hours. Checked coolant on level surface...looks ok. Started it up and drove around neighborhood. Car steadily climbs to 200 degrees F and then will sit there for around 5 minutes. As oil temperature breaks the halfway point, the coolant temp begins to steadily rise again until it hits just below to overheat mark for a couple minutes, then finally pushes through into the red.

Parked car overnight.

Drove to VW repair shop. Exact same results driving there. Temp increases from ignition to 200 degrees over a couple minutes then stops for 5+ minutes. Oil gets hot, coolant gets hot, I get very hot.Only 10 Months ago, I replaced the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat with genuine parts. I know what a pain in the arse it is to change these items so I did them all at once. I am sick thinking about having to do it yet again with these apes poking around my car.

Celica :: 1992 - Car Started To Overheat

I have a 1992 celica GT 2.2l A/T. I was on my way home today from college and my car started to overheat right before i made it home. It was steaming a bit and the temp gauge was tacked out. when i pulled into my apartment i noticed a light brown colored liquid in my parking spot, and alot of it.

I saw this same liquid at my college campus and assumed it was a coffee someone spilled near my car, but now i know it came from my car. I haven't had a chance to check my houses yet as i just got home and my cars still really hot. I know its not power steering fluid b/c that's been empty all week b/c my reservoir leaks. Why my car is overheating and what liquid is coming from it. Oh also the liquid seems to be coming from the right front portion of the car.

Caprice :: 1992 Classic V8 5.7L Randomly Overheat

Last summer the car would randomly overheat and we would switch the heater on and the temp needle would nose dive into normal range in 30 seconds. It made me think that maybe it wasn't really overheating.

This summer its started again. It gets almost into the red within minutes of driving it. There have been times where I turned and the needle went from almost the red zone to the normal range. Making me think its not overheating, but that nagging feeling tells me I need to know for sure.

The car will overheat within a few minutes. There were no visible leaks. I replaced upper and lower radiator hoses and refilled lost fluids. Driving it the first time, the upper radiator hose popped off and overheated. I initially thought it was the clamp being faulty so I bought a new clamp. Installed new clamp. Same thing. Same hose popped off again. Put it back on and its leaking fluid around the hose some how.

I know the lower hose has a coil in it to prevent collapse, should the upper too (haven't seen it collapse)? Why might it be leaking around the hose?

Next is the thermostat. That will be replaced this weekend. I'm pretty confident that it isn't the engine block cracked or a bad head gasket.

How should I remedy this hose issue and what course of action should I go for next? Water pump?

Celica :: 91 Engine Overheat And Smoke Underneath The Car

My engine started to overheat and I have a very specific stream of smoke coming from, what I believe, is the water outlet housing. I'm pretty sure the hoses that are connected to it are heater hoses of some sort. My question is what would make that specific area smoke?!? I have oil, I have plenty of coolant, although there was coolant leakage the first time I noticed the smoke underneath the car right about dead center, there wasn't a distinct epicenter of fluid, which lead me to rule out failing water pump. Got the diagnostic codes and the coolant temperature sensor checked out fine as well. Did not see any specific spots for leaking, just coolant sprayed everywhere on the underside of the car, behind the engine, towards the middle of the car and smoke coming from that water outlet housing.

Golf IV R32 :: Fans Won't Turn On - Car Started To Overheat

Started the R and moved it out of the garage after the motor build. At which during that time I replaced the large fan with a new one from Ecs and the small one I took apart and cleaned up after I found the Diy for it.

Before I rebuilt the motor the car started to over heat on its last ride home before the rebuild (Neither one of the fans would turn on). So I replaced the switch on the radiator today and let the car warm up and the fans didn't kick on again. I checked the fuse and it good but I'm not sure where the relay is.

Also my A/c is not charged up. I also touched the coolant lines running to the Aux radiator and they are cold. And I do hear the after run/electric water pump running.

The green coolant temp sensor is clean and plugged in. Could it be the thermostat? Are there any fuses in the panel that sits on top of the battery that deal with the fans? Is there a way to test the coolant fan control module?

Daihatsu - Rocky :: Overheat When Driving Uphill

New thermostat, radiator, radiator cap, water pump, hoses, viscous fan. No freeway driving, just surface streets. Go down a hill to work, come back up the hill and overheat. When car gets hot, can turn on heater, dump excess heat, and temp gauge moves back towards center. Oil is clean. Coolant is clean, no oily residue.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Engine Starting To Overheat When AC On

I was in traffic the other day on the express way and I noticed my engine was starting to overheat. I think it has something to do with the AC because as soon as I turned it off the temp went back to normal. What it could be?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Temp Reading Shows 260 + But Car Won't Overheat

I've got a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition.

Recently the temp gauge sits at 260* as soon as the car starts, but it's not actually overheating. Car runs/drives fine and will do so for many, many miles. Even in stop and go traffic. Was told the thermostat was replaced, but that didn't fix the issue although it doesn't sound like a thermostat issue since the car isn't actually overheating. Coolant is topped off as well.

I am thinking it's a bad sensor. Where is it located on this car?

Car is a friends and she said she took it to a shop to have the coolant checked and they were also the ones who did the thermostat.

Chrysler :: 1999 Begins To Overheat After Driving 3 Miles

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. It is overheating in a strange way. After driving 3 miles it begins to overheat. Sometimes it will overheat, then quickly drop back down to normal temperature, but then overheat again. When going up any grade it definitely overheats.

I have had the car in for repair at two mechanics. Both have GIVEN UP on fixing the problem. Here is what they tried: Replacing both radiator fans, replacing the thermostat, replacing the water pump. The car is also losing coolant. None of these repairs has solved the problem what-so-ever. It's a mystery. And I keep being deeper in the hole with money What could it be?? Someone said it could be the temperature sensor. Is that true?

Saturn - SL :: 1997 - When Idling The Engine Starts To Overheat

My 1997 Saturn SL has had an odd overheating problem for several years now. When idling the engine starts to overheat, but the fan does not kick in until/unless I turn on the AC.( I do a lot of idling, as I work from the car a good deal.) I've had the car serviced, even had the fan specifically checked in the shop, & had the AC components changed out last year (whole other issue, barely blows cool air). But the overheating abides.

Mitsubishi - Outlandersport :: AC Will Go From Ice Cold To Blowing Hot Air When Car Starts To Overheat

Ok so I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport AWD. It has started to over heat only when stopped at a stop light and only when the A/C is on. It will red line and as soon as I start to drive the gauge will drop back to normal. Then as soon as I stop again it will red line. But when I turn the A/C off it will fall back down to 3/4 over heat and drop immediately as I start driving. I notice that the A/C will go from ice cold to blowing hot air when it starts to over heat. I took it to the shop and they did a pressure test on the cooling system and it didn't do it again and the shop said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. It didn't do it for about 2 weeks and just now it started back again!!!!!!

Honda - Accordhybrid :: 2002 - Overheat / Cap On The Overflow Keeps Blowing

My son has a Honda Civic where the engine keeps wanting to overheat. There are no fluid leaks, and we replaced the thermostat. It keeps "blowing" the cap on the overflow.

The fan seems to be working fine, so I don't think that is it. Once it warms up, if you squeeze the hose from the top of the radiator, it is not seem to be pushing much water through (water pump??). You cannot see into the radiator (to check for air bubbles), but popping the overflow cap makes me wonder if it the head gasket has blown, and we are getting exhaust into the coolant system.

Integra :: 93 Car Overheat On Longer Freeway Drives And Stop-and-go Traffic After A While

My car (93 Integra) overheats (not fully, just to 50-60% of the gauge) on longer freeway drives and stop-and-go traffic after a while. Turning the heater on negate the problem but not fully.

Here's what I know:

-Water pump and thermostat were replaced ~20k miles ago
-Fluids are full
-Fans don't turn on (but that doesn't explain freeway overheating)
-When sitting in stop-and-go traffic I can rev the engine in neutral and the temp gauge will go back to normal

Silverado :: 2013 - Tranny Overheat In Park - Temp Went From 120 To 145 Degrees

I have less than 7k miles on my new Silverado W/T. I haven't hauled anything heavy in it since I bought it, and have been using it just back and forth to work. Pretty light duty. I was parked the other night in a parking lot idling and listening to the radio when I noticed the transmission temp jumped up to 189 degrees! I also noticed the water gauge was a bit past it's mid-range temp. I immediately cranked up the heater core to try to cool things down and it worked for the main radiator water temp..but the tranny sender quickly went to 200 degrees so I shut the whole mess down.

Just before I did that, the transmission idiot light popped on. I left it there for several hours in 20 degree weather and came back to start the truck and head home..the tranny on start-up was still @ 70 degrees. I got up on the hiway and things came down to about 100 degrees at a legal speed on the hiway. Engine water temp was normal too. Drove for about 45 minutes that way. I tried sitting in my driveway a day or so later in park, and the tranny temp went from 120 degrees to 145 degrees in 35 degree weather fairly quickly.
