Would bad lower front ball joints freeze and creak when turning. I have noticed that my car(2010GLS) with 108k miles has a creaking sound when turning the wheels left to right. I poked a hole in the rubber boot covering the joint and sprayed WD 40 in there and now it seem to creak even more. Guess I am going to replace the l and r lower ball joints.

View 8 RepliesI have an 06 F150 2wd that needs both lower ball joints. I've done searches and everyone keeps talking about a big freaking hammer. Can't you just use a ball joint press kit to remove and reinstall these? If no I'm gonna find someone to put them in for me because Im scared of breaking the aluminum control arm. There was also some talk of using some sorta glue on the joints as well.

According to the factory service manual, you need to use 1/8 drill bit to open a pilot hole, then use a 1/2 bit to finish it.
On a level-of-difficulty-scale from 1 to 10. 10 being the most difficult. How difficult is it to change the upper control arm and the lower ball joint?

View 5 RepliesI put new upper and lower ball joints on a few weeks ago. The front end is really tight after getting done. the steering wheel will not return to center. I feel like I am constantly on the wheel correcting. I had the alignment checked and they said it was good. I also put new 17" wheels and bigger tires on it at the same time.
We just towed our camper this past weekend and the truck and camper was all over the road. Is all of the above caused by new ball joints?
My daughter has a 1999 Passat 4cyl.... In the last year I've had 2 lower control arms at the front ball joints just break away. Lucky it has been when she was either stopping or at very slow speed.
On inspection this looks like a very unsafe design flaw. The aluminum control arm is strong except for the light metal around the ball joint it's self. If one of these let go at speed it could be fatal!!
What causes the break other than normal wear and is there any signs before one lets go?
I need to do both lower ball joints. is there a write up or process to do it? do I have to remove the whole hub assembly/knuckle thing or can I do it with all that stuff in place?

View 2 RepliesMy 06 sonata ran fine for about 3 miles today and then started to sputter at stop signs until I got up to speed. Upon restarting it at work the check engine light came on. Took it to a parts store and put the tester on it.
Error codes p0300 (random misfire), p0022 (Intake camshaft position), p0018 Crankshaft position Bank 2 sensor A, and p0304,306 (misfires on cylinder 4 and 6). Taking it to a Hyundai dealer tomorrow? Is my motor turning into a brick?
Had a recent oil changes and have driven it a thousand miles or so since. Hoping my wife didn't put E85 in it or something when she filled it up but that was about 100 miles ago so I doubt it would be running fine that long.
I have recently replaced both tie rod ends and found out when I took my truck for an alignment the mechanic stated that I had bad driver side ball joints (upper & lower) I confirmed this with SEARS and they stated that it was all the ball joints upper & lowers! the Haynes repair manual (1999-2010) states "ball joints on 1999 through 2013 2WD models were not replaceable".

My 2007 Hyundai Accent gs shakes really bad while I am accelerating at lower speeds. I thought the front driver's side tire was loose or possibly had an air bubble, but could find no evidence of such. The rim and the tie rod looks fine, but it is shaking bad. It pretty much stops shaking when i reach higher speeds (60+mph), but when I am stopped and need to accelerate or turn it gets frightening.

Clutch works fine in cold weather, but for the last 3 summers when driving in city traffic, the clutch gets spongy and starts to catch lower and lower to the floor. Car has about 125,000mi bought it 2 years ago and don't know when or if the clutch was ever replaced.
