Actually, yesterday it didn't sound as bad. Today I sprayed some BELT DRESSING on it, and NOW it sounds like this!
I started up my 2004 v8 phaeton with 49k mies for the first time in two weeks and it made an awful squealing sound that seems to be coming from the front of the engine. it also seems to be idling very roughly, this may or may not be related to the noise. it has never made this sound before and i am scared to drive it until i get an idea of what it is. i am afraid it is the timing belt and the i will ruin the whole engine on the way to the dealership.
View 12 RepliesMy 2007 hyundai sonota with the 3.3 starting making a horrible noise as if no engine oil and eventually just stopped. ( My son was driving it). The engine oil light did come on! I checked engine oil level, it was fine. I also checked oil filter and it looked good.
You could restart the car and drive it and it would run for 15 -20 minutes before the engine oil light comes on then 5 minutes later it dies. Let it sit and the same thing happens. So I pulled codes and got P-0011 (code of many causes)
I pulled the OCV (CVVT actuator) in the cylinder nearest the radiator (bank 1? not sure which bank this is). Actually it was the only one I could find. It was not easy and it is in a cramped spot almost directly under the intake manifold.
Never the less It tested at 7.8 ohms and it moved when I applied 12 volts. According to Haynes, this number is good and the action when voltage applied is in the correct range.
I am stuck now. Haynes manual implies there is only 1 OCV (CVVT actuator) for this year model, but gets confusing? Is there another OCV I can check, on the other bank near the firewall (bank 2).
After driving my 2007 sonata for around 10 minutes, there is a very high pitched squealing sound that is intermittent and stops when the brakes are tapped. I was told it may be due to a "brake sensor"??

As well, seems like it runs a little rough right now when I am sitting idle at a stop light. Could the belt be causing this?
So this has been happening for a few months now. When the hood is closed it sounds like a fan with a bad bearing slowing down. I had the hood open today and turned the car off and it scared me. I've only ever heard it faintly since I have never turned the car off before with the hood open. It's definately ALOT louder with the hood open vs. closed...for obvious reasons... I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Recently there has been a squealing noise coming from the pulley on the power steering pump. I would start when the car was cold but then go away when the engine warmed up. Lately it is squealing continuously. It does not get more intense when I turn, it just seems to be there constantly now. If this is the pump or just an idler pulley?
View 4 RepliesI took my 2010 Sonata GLS (86K miles) into the shop last Thursday for an alignment and new front brakes since the old ones were on the wear indicators and doing some squealing/squeaking on soft left turns. Got a call from the mechanic who said the rotors were also shot, so I had them replaced as well.
On my normal commute on Monday and Tuesday this week (approx 10 miles, 95% highway), I noticed that when the car was moving at 15mph or less in a straight line both front wheels were making a noticeable high-pitched squeal/squeak, which went away with increased speed and when braking. I figured it might be a break-in issue but when it hadn't improved by yesterday I made an appointment to have the car checked out by the mechanic again today.
Got the car back today and the same sound is still happening, though now it's in the 60mph range and seems to come and go regardless of wheel direction. The mechanic said he took the brakes apart, found no issues but cleaned and lubed everything as a precaution.
I'm starting to wonder if its the bearings that are shot, but the sound hasn't remained constant as I would expect with a bearing issue. All the parts used are under warranty, so the next step I have available here is to have the brakes and rotors replaced.
I'm facing a bit of a problem on my girlfriends dads 2009 Sonata (Non-Premium sound system). I just installed a Pioneer aftermarket head unit and am getting no sound when the car is started or when its in ACC mode. However, when the ignition is just turned to the "ON" position (first click) the head unit works flawlessly and all 4 speakers output sound. As soon as I turn it to ACC or start the car, there is no sound at all but the head unit still powers up and shows the track playing. I'm really stumped here guys. I've done literally countless head unit installations and I just can't figure this one out, nor have I ever seen this before. I thought the problem might have been a factory amp, but the head unit does not say JBL or Infinity so that leads me to believe it doesn't have a factory amp. Maybe I'm not the pro I though I was lol.
At any rate, just in-case it matters, there is a line out converter attached to the system in order to add a sub/amp to the stock head unit that I installed a few years prior to attempting the aftermarket head unit installation. I don't think that would matter but I may be wrong. I was planning to remove it and route the RCA's to the aftermarket head unit once everything was up and running.
I own a 07 Hyundai Sonata Limited with 31000 miles. It is 20 degrees today. When I start the car up there is this knocking sound from the engine. Once the car warms up the knocking sound only happens when the car is in drive or reverse. When the car is in park or neutral it is fairly quiet. The sounds is still there but not as loud as in drive or reverse. I have done the routine synthetic blend oil changes between 3500-4500 miles.
View 14 RepliesI have this problem about 3 weeks ago,when i start the engine i have sound dont know how to describe it but something like tik tik mostly come from crank pully it is not so loud and disappear after few minutes from 5 to 10 min . and if i turn off the engine and start it again does not appear only if kept turned off several hours.
View 12 RepliesMy 2006 sonata (3.3l) 108k miles has developed a recent problem. The oil light will come on (usually during acceleration) and then go off in a second. i guess you could call it a flicker. I also notice a helicopter sound from the engine. When I rev it up in park I don't hear it. i hear a slight rattler In the alternator area. the serpentine belt is original.
So last week my daughter got the oil changed. I noticed it was leaking oil. I checked fluids and it was fine. I noticed oil on top of the engine, I just thought they spilled some. Continued to leak. checked the oil again and it was approx. 1 3/4 quarts low. The oil light never came on. I suspected the oil filter (its on top of the engine). brought it back to jiffy lube and they said the filter was loose. they gave me a new one and filled up the oil. no ticks or engine noises were noticeable.
So my question is could the oil light be something else (maybe tied to that helicopter sound)?. is an oil light flicker always low oil pressure.
I was driving this morning after doing a brake job (nothing to do with the problem, just anger coming out) made it about 10 kms and noticed when i took my foot off the accelerator, the heater fan powered down a bit, and back up when I gave it gas...noticed a knocking sound from the engine...pulled into a gas station and put it in park. After a hard time idling, it cut out. I started it again and the idle was not good at all. kept cutting out. Got it going and made it home with the same sort of power issue. Tried to start it a couple times and same issue with the idle. Sputtering quite a bit and noticed quite a bit of exhaust coming out. When I backed it out of the garage, I noticed a small puddle of oil.
View 15 RepliesIn my 2007 Sonata, I hit a poorly placed high manhole cover in a dip in the road, in the dark, going 30MPH, whacked it good before I could adjust...
I then pulled the car over, it seemed to go dead, then the car did crank back up, the engine sounded much louder, like a loud rev/hum, not quiet like usual.
I next drove a mile to a c-store, transmission seemed OK, no leaks, did see a check engine light briefly, but it disappeared. Car cranked OK, headed home, same sound right at cranking and at moderate speed.
Finally, I jacked the car up on the front left, from research appears that the plastic engine shields got smacked good along the front and near the right tire and bent back quite a bit on the left side. There seems to be no other structural damage that my untrained eye could see, just one indention you'll see in a couple of the photos that I think is part of the car design at that spot.
Again, no leaks, no smoke, no caution lights of any kind now.

My Hyundai's engine now sounds like a Mustang! Hoping it's just the engine noise from these plastic covers now being bent/destroyed in some spots, exposing the engine and the typical noise you'd hear without them...
I recently bought a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3 V6. Had another issue related to the rear wheel, which I fixed. Today, I changed the oil filter on the car (along with the oil). I have heard this engine noise before, but with the cover off it appears a little louder. It’s basically a ‘ticking’ sound.
The engine uses no oil, and has no other leaks. It has some noise on startup for maybe 1-2 seconds (like a loud lifter or something, but it goes away in less than 2 seconds, and at the same time the oil light goes out). I changed the filter today because I was told that a leaky gasket could result in the Filter not retaining oil between starts, causes some minor knock for a few seconds.
But anyway, this other ticking noise seems to be regular, regardless of condition. I have heard some people say that some engine noise is normal for this engine, but how about this?

I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata 2.4l GLS. Staring to get an little noise from the engine about a few days ago. The noise what can only describe as a whirring sound and while in the cabin it sounds like it's coming from the right side and in the engine area, especially after a cold start and during acceleration. It is not very loud(have to turn stereo off to hear it and it only last for a couple of seconds as far as I know. My car now has about 240,000kms on it, and since the noise is coming from that area I am guessing it's a pulley of some sort. Serpentine belt was changed last year. What this noise is? I was thinking it might be the belt tensioner, probably should have changed it during my belt change.

View 5 RepliesI have a weird issue, whenever I'm driving in pretty wet conditions (or drive through a puddle and make a "wall of water") I hear a high pitched squealing sound. Sounds like it is coming from the front right (passenger side) of the car when driving in wet conditions.
View 7 RepliesEarlier today on a easy drive (not pushing it) I noticed a slight "whistle-sound" that I haven't noticed before. About then it became VERY sluggish and the Engine Management Light started to flash.
As soon as I could I pulled over and connected my AL619 and it says "to low turbo/supercharger flow".
I didn't notice any smoke or smell, just a serious lack of power (i was doing 30km/h at the top of the hill).
Just tried to locate the leak, but I cant feel it or see it. I guess one would need one of those "smoke generators" to see where the pressure goes out.
So, do I have a broken turbo, or just a blown turbo pipe/tube?
I have been experiencing a slight issue with my 07 Sonata V6 lately. When I am accelerating, most commonly when already at speed around 80 to 90 km/h, I would hear this 2-3 ticks / clicks when I press lightly or moderately on the accelerator pedal. The car would accelerate fine without any further noises. When I release the pedal, the car slows down a bit, and I press on the pedal again, then the same sound re-appears.
