Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Hood Won't Close / Loose Release Handle
Jul 2, 2016
I've been driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata for about 9 months now and it recently (2 weeks ish) started to not shut its hood. I haven't gotten it officially checked out yet as I'm low in funds and don't want to shell out money where I don't have to. I know it's dangerous to drive around with my car hood open (like an inch which is noticeable). I would shut it before I start driving and when I reach my destination it would be up again. Someone (a random guy who pulled up next to me at a red light and told me he could give me a quote for my hood... and the dent on the side of my passenger door) told me it may be due to a loose hood release handle on the driver side. There was no give when I tried the handle (is this called the latch?) and when this someone tried to loosen the rust on the hood lock itself (is this the latch idk these car terms), it still wouldn't close. It would click but pop right up. It keeps clicking when I close it but doesn't fully close because I could lift it up about an inch and it'd stay that way. He said it may be due to a cable issue with the release handle.

When I pull the release handle there is no resistance. I suspect the release cable is broken. How to release the locked hood?

I noticed my hood latch release getting a little stiffer over some time to the point that my hood latch cable stretched out and didn't work. I fixed it by tying a knot in the cable to shorten the length and now it works fine. HOWEVER, it is still getting stiffer. I unhooked the 2 cable peices where they connect under the hood on the driver side to see if they are sticking, they both are smooth. I also latch the release mechanism (without closing the hood) and activated it easily. BUT still when I use it on the hood, it is very stiff.

I have a 2006 Ford F-150, and when I pull the hood release, the hood won't open unless I'm holding on to the hood release handle while pulling up on the hood. I've been trying to figure out how to adjust it but I can't find any information on it. The cable isn't broken, as I can see the cable move, it just doesn't seem to move enough to open the hood release. How I can fix/adjust it so it will work? Do I need to adjust it at the handle, or at the actual release under the hood?

I picked up a new CSG GTI, 6speed with Xenon and Bluetooth on Thursday. Yesterday evening when I got home from work I opened the hood to make sure everything was cool I guess. Then this morning I was going to open it again, and the release inside the car is loose, like it's hardly attached to anything.
MKVI? I know it's probably a cable issue, but it sucks to have to drive back 50 miles to the dealer, 2 days after buying it, because the hood won't open.

My hood has ceased to pop open when I pull the latch from the interior release. I removed the panel to see if the cable came undone from the release lever but it is still intact. From what I can tell, the cable seems to be snapped in the middle. I brought the car to 2 different mechanics, both said they would have to do damage to get under the hood. But I've read online and it seems other people are able to do it.

I just got a new 2006 and the spoiler shakes when I close the hatch. Is there a way to get in there and tighten things down/make sure I'm not missing some bolts?

My 2010 Sonata has a sunroof which I did not mean to open. I touched the button by mistake and the sunshade and sunroof opened. I have tried what I think is everything to close it, but no luck. How to close it?

My ashtray opened and now will not close. I can push it in but it opens again. This probably requires me to take it out and I am not sure how to remove the ashtray.

Driver's inside door handle no longer opens door. Need to lower window and open from outside. 2009 Sonata GL?
Apparently the plastic connector/retainer to the door latch cable is broken off so that the handle no longer moves the cable.
Does the replacement door handle come with the connector/retainer to the latch cable?
To complete this repair, does the whole inner door panel have to removed or simply the assembly around the door handle?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to remove the interior rear door handle from my 2009 Sonata. My wife scrapped the back door along a concrete parking post. I was able to find a replacement door in the same color, but the interior doesn't match. I'm able to get both door cards off but cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the inside door handle.
I have: removed the screw and slid the handle over to get it off the side of the door. Popped the two cables off the door housing and was able to remove the cable from the door handle connection. But for the lock switch mechanism, that appears to be encircled by plastic and I can't see a way to remove it without breaking the locking mechanism.

Several months ago I noticed that the fuel door switch on my '09 Sonata started to work worse and worse... would take two, three, four hits before the lid opened. Fast forward to now. While the door opens perfectly fine with the manual release (in trunk), the button no longer works no matter how many times I press it. When depressed, no noise is noticeable in the fuel door area. What the root cause is and what the fix should be? Is this something only a dealer can properly diagnose? The trunk release button still works fine both on the remote and in the car.

This happened a few days ago, that the driver's side door handle does not release the latch and let the driver door open. we can open the door fine from inside. the remote key un-locks/locks the door fine. What I've tried :
- Slamming the door hard a few times,
- Pulling both the inside and outside door handles at the same time
- Greasing the latch mechanism on the door end (what hooks onto the latch)
Today I removed the lock cylinder, but from what i can see with the cylinder removed the door handle looks ok (no broken or missing pieces). What would be the next thing to do?

The passenger door doesn't always want to close? It's being very finicky. Basically, every so often (with no regularity) it seems as though the door won't "catch" and close. If I pull but the interior handle, and/or exterior handle a few times it eventually gets there.
Like (probably most of you) I replaced the actuator, and even had to replace the window motor on this side, so I'm intimately familiar with the inner workings of these doors, and how everything has to be taken apart to do any work with them.
It's pretty annoying, and I'm worried the thing could just fly open while I'm on the road.

How to disable the trunk release on the driver's side door? If I lock the trunk, the fob trunk release is also disabled.

I have a 2007 Sonata and the rear driver side exterior door handle broke. How to repair it? Does the interior panel need to come off? I see a screw under the pivot side and an interior bolt through an access port from the inside.

My car is getting close to the 55- thousand mile service, and correct me if i am wrong the service is not mentioned in the owners handbook unless i overlooked something. However for the first time since i have the car the service due message is counting down in the readout.
Recently the CEL came on again, giving me an opportunity to use VAG adapter to read out the error code from memory. So went to open the panel underneath the steering wheel which contains the OBD connector. And that's when i got stuck.
According to the owner hand book the compartment has a little latch to open it. The only latch i found is the one used for the hand brake release. So what am I overlooking ?

My 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 started dripping water the other day from the ceiling handle. The drain hoses do not appear to be plugged, water runs freely out. I pulled off the headliner around the place of the leak, and I can kind of see a plastic attachment with the drain hose on the corner of the sunroof frame. The water is coming from somewhere from it, but not from the hose attachment.
My question is, Do I have to replace the sunroof frame? Is it difficult to do? Or can I get away epoxying around the leak if it's small enough? In any case, how hard is it to remove the headliner?
