I was just working on replacing the cabin air filter on my '06 sonata and when I opened up the side panel I noticed that the glove box strut was not attached to anything. This would probably explain why my glovebox will occasionally open all the way to the floor.
How I should reattach it so that it will stop doing this, or have a diagram that shows how it should be connected?
How I could activate the map lights to turn on when the door opens? Right now it's set for the dome lights to turn on but i dont want that.
View 19 RepliesSeveral months ago I noticed that the fuel door switch on my '09 Sonata started to work worse and worse... would take two, three, four hits before the lid opened. Fast forward to now. While the door opens perfectly fine with the manual release (in trunk), the button no longer works no matter how many times I press it. When depressed, no noise is noticeable in the fuel door area. What the root cause is and what the fix should be? Is this something only a dealer can properly diagnose? The trunk release button still works fine both on the remote and in the car.
View 5 RepliesI had a rather unfortunate incident this morning. I woke to find my trunk wide open and several items valued at over $700 missing!!! As you can imagine, this really ticks me off! What good is all this technology if it doesn't work?! And I know for a fact I locked the car too!
The worst thing is, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it, no way of knowing until after the fact. This was not a one time occurrence either; it happened once before a couple weeks ago. My neighbor woke me up first thing in the morning to inform me my trunk was wide open. Fortunately nothing had been touched the first time.
I'm worried the dealer will tell me there's nothing they can do about it because they cant duplicate the problem. So what? Does this now mean that the trunk has rendered it useless to leave *anything* of value in the car? Come to think of it, this also makes it easy to break in to the car as well; since all they would have to do is drop the rear seats and climb on through. The more I think about it, the worse it truly is and the more this ticks me off!
I drive a '11 Sonata GLS and experience the rattling noise/clanking when weight shifts to the front-right of the car or when i go over a dip, and the noise is coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. I THINK it is the glove box issue that has been mentioned before and I am going to purchase some felt tape and apply this method [URL] .... that was posted here. Did this correct the issue?
And also when i reverse the car (specifically when I turn the wheel to the right) I get a knocking noise, which seems to also be coming from the front-right (or back) I can't tell. Can this be an axle? I'm at 79k mileage so the dealership wants $125 to diagnose the problem and that amount will go towards anything needing repair. Should I take the car to another shop instead?
At first it looked like the right side was OK but now after removing the hinge pins at the bottom (and putting them back on), the glove box appears locke but it's not. I can't see how it comes apart. I know it shouldn't be easy but I have stuff in there I need.

I just got a beautiful red '06 with only 19k miles. It's my second SC, and I can't believe how much I missed it after a four year break.
However, there's already trouble. The roof only opens intermittently. When it works, it's all good, no vibrations, nothing off track, smooth operation all the way open and close.
When it doesn't work, the red light on the open/close button will NOT light up. Nothing happens at all. I will come back to the car a few hours (or minutes) later, and it works fine. The problem never occurs for closing, only opening. Also, several times now I have closed my roof, and then immediately tried to open it again, but no deal. Those symptoms make me think it's not the ECU, but one of the sensors.
BTW, there is no Luxlink installed yet. I have yet to find one that includes the double-click option
We have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 with the passenger sliding door powered. About 1/3 the time when we close the power door, it gets almost all the way closed and then it starts dinging and opens back up. Gets annoying when we just want to leave somewhere and we mess around with the door for 2 minutes trying to get it to close. We bought the car from a GM dealer and we have a warranty on it but they can't figure it out.
In my opinion, if they can't fix the door, they should replace it with a new one. If that doesn't fix it, then they should cut off that side of the car and put a new side on it. One of the two has to be bad. But I doubt that's going to fly with the dealer. They keep telling us they're "adjusting" the door to fix it but their "adjustments" never fix it. Where are the adjustments?
There's also sometimes I swear the door doesn't unlock so when we try to get it to open, it won't. Not sure if this is my imagination or if it's really not unlocking. Also the door rattles. You'd think the rattle would be related. The dealer says the rattle and the door not closing are two separate issue... but the rattle could be because the door is loose and the looseness is causing it to not follow the tracks right and then binds... I don't know.
I took my 2006 Prius into the dealership a few months ago for an oil change. When I drove the car away from the dealership I heard a weird pop from the area of the glove box. When I opened the glove box later to see what had happened, the glove box only opened about halfway. Some part of the spring mechanism had been compromised.
When I returned to the dealership telling them to fix the glove box, they examined it and concluded that the glove box was opening just fine. Looking for a brief video of upper glove box opening, to show the extent to which it fully opens on its own? I would like to present such a video to my dealership folks, who seem not to know how their own parts are meant to function.
I've got a 2006 F150 King Ranch with rear power slider that opens but won't close. After looking more closely, the bracket holding the 'close' cable is cracked and the cable end keeps pulling out. Can I just remove the sliding window/bracket and repair the holder with JB Weld or am I looking at replacing the entire back window to enjoy the convenience?
View 3 Replies06 GS430 has started making this loud clicking noise when we start the car ... not all the time but very often ... it almost sounds like a jackhammer and is extremely loud. Goes on for a good 20-30 seconds then goes away.
The location sounds like it is coming from the glove box area but not really behind it, more below and behind it..

I don't hear the motor lock the trunk either. I can open it with a broom handle through the back seat ok or with the actual metal key, but pressing the button on the remote or next to the steering wheel does nothing. I checked the fuse, and the glove box switch.
Anything else I can try? It's no worry since its still under warranty, but if it's something simple it would save me the trip.
I was wondering is there a way to have an audio input cable plugged into the glove box cd changer female socket?.I just want to connect anything,by doing this i can connect my mp3,iphone or any other audio device's output.
I do not have the AUX option.
my 06 SD ha no glove box light, i have an oem light and pigtail, where would be a good place to tap into power?

Just a little PSA, if your TPMS light shows up, and all the tires (including the spare) are at the proper psi, check the button below the glove box. As long as the warning light is solid, its likely someone pushed the button. I almost paid $120 in diagnostic fee and $150 for a new sensor at the dealer because for some reason, no one knew about this button, or didn't want to tell me.
View 5 Replies2006 sonata gl with 4-cyl engine. Car runs/feels fine. Installed HID kit a while ago (with harness) and no problem. Driving home late afternoon (with AC on hi) stopped on red light. Radio was on but NO HID lights on - then momentarily car stalls. Starts back up right a way and NO check engine light. Tried AC- works fine, turn the lights on (HID 35w slim balast), radio on - everything is fine.
My "suspect" is old battery (original!) and I think that for a short moment charging system (alternator) could not keep up/charge battery while car was idling with AC and radio on (hi load).
How long is original battery good for (5-6-...yrs)? Looked earlier at Everstart batteries (or was it Eveready brand?) made by Johnson. I could only find a few batteries but they were sitting on the shelf since last summer (sticker said made 07/2010 !). Are they any good?
Usually in the morning after starting the car, when I put the car into reverse the car stalls. I start it up again and it works fine. It has been doing this for a few months. When I went to get oil change they said I needed to replace battery so I did. Problem is still there. It has done this twice when I try to take off from a red light. I have no check engine lights either. My car has 105,000 miles but cannot really afford to buy a new car at the moment.
View 5 RepliesMy trunk opens by itself. Sometimes when I hit the door open key on the remote (I've tried the spare and it's the same). Sometimes seconds after opening doors. I've gone out to find my trunk wide open in the morning...twice in the past week! The latch works just fine. Seems to be a problem with electronics.
View 7 RepliesToday my sunroof tilted open all by itself while I was driving, then it closed it by itself. Then it did it all over again.
A week ago it tilted open, I closed it by moving the switch to full open, then close.
In another post ("Sunroof Problem") I found one mention of this problem and the switch was the culprit.
I had to have the switch replaced?
2005 BMW X5 3.0i I've already checked the child lock. Door opens fine from the inside but I can't open from the outside. Door handle doesn't feel loose or anything. I am going to open the door panel?
