My 2010 Sonata GLS recently started to emitting some noise during acceleration, seemingly come from under the hood. The noise is most noticeable between 15-25 MPH, and is more noticeable when I go uphill. The noise also becomes more frequent with higher speed.

I purchased a 2011 Sonata about 6 weeks ago. I like almost everything about it, but the engine is very noisy. I'm not talking about a loud growl when you accelerate, but it's almost sounds like there are 2 frequencies sounding at once. It's higher pitched and at times sounds like pinging or clattering. It's very hard to explain. Unfortunately, sometimes it's worse than others and when I've taken it to the dealer, it's not at it's worst. The dealer I purchased it from told me that it was normal, even though I drove another 2011 on their lot that did not have the sound. Another dealer told me that it was a loud fuel pump because of the high pressure of the injectors and that Hyundai is aware and is working on a new "cover" that should muffle the sound. When I contacted Hyundai directly, they did not know of any new "cover" being developed . Assuming I've described it well enough to know... The only thing I know to do is wait for it to get consistently worse, and take it in again.

Runs really well but in the last few months there has been a rough sound on acceleration. Sort of like a ticking noise. Doesn't matter if it's warmed up or not. At cruise speeds you can't hear it. What it could be? Ran some injector cleaner through it to no avail.

I went to a mechanic who checked the heat shields and exhaust only to tell me it was in the transaxel and sent me to a transmission shop. the transmission shop told me they think its the hydraulic lifters, and sent me elsewhere.
View 1 RepliesBasically, when driving shortly after turning on the car (when the engine is still warming up) I often experience a 'shot' of acceleration despite not further depressing the accelerator. In other words, I'll be driving along smoothly and suddenly the car will speed up slightly by itself without me having done anything. This only occurs when the HSI is past the middle (i.e. when the engine is powering the car) and when the car has recently been switched on. It's almost as if the sensor that detects my acceleration is re-calibrating itself while I'm driving, increasing the input to the engine.
The first time it happened it was a bit of a shock and I was a little scared, however I'm used to it by now and can anticipate it happening (however it doesn't happen 100% of the time). It's nothing too serious - it probably only accelerates a couple of KMs above what I'm actually doing but still is a bit of a worry. I'll be taking it in for a service shortly and seeing what they say about.
When I accelerate from a stop, the car jumps, slows down, jumps again, etc... I do hear a noise when I accelerate rapidly on the highway, almost like a leak somewhere, but I'm not really sure.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2010 Sonata GLS 4-cylinder approximately 124K miles which has been hesitating on hard accelerations for about 8 months. It will usually do this when getting on an on-ramp for the freeway or if I need to do a U-turn and get up to speed quickly. What happens is I punch the gas and the vehicle acts as if it's not getting any gas and hesitates or stalls and then it finally takes off. Usually I see a cloud of grey/white smoke behind the car enough that I am unable to see any cars in my rear view mirror.
I do not seem to see a difference when the vehicle is warm/cold. I do not have a CEL nor have had one. I have replaced the MAP sensor, PCV valve and spark plugs (properly gapped). I have done a compression test and am getting roughly 180-185 psi per cylinder. I am not experiencing any oil loss/coolant loss, do not see any oil in the coolant or gummed-up or oily spark plugs. I have also replaced the transmission fluid, doing a drain and flushing the torque converter. I have also cleaned the throttle body, and am using a new air filter and the oil has been changed within the past 1000 miles.
My 2005 3.3 V6 NF Elite has developed a vibration under acceleration. Its not always apparent, but certain road surfaces, and certain rates of acceleration seem to make it worse, when it can be felt throughout the car. The drivers side CV is beginning to click, so will need replacing soon, and I suspect that some bushings around the suspension are worn, as they are squeaking. Could those issues cause such a vibration.

View 6 RepliesI have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4L with 131,000 miles on it. When I accelerate from a stop, there is a buzzing/rattling/grinding noise coming from the engine bay of my car. It's really hard to describe, there is a definite buzzing sound, but also almost like there is a bolt rattling around and banging into things. This only happens for a couple of seconds. It also seems to be worse when I'm accelerating up hill. If I accelerate slowly from a stop, the noise does not occur, and it also does not occur if I accelerate while I'm already moving.
View 4 Replies2007 Sonata V6. He's spent many hours and a good chunk of change at the dealership trying to get it fixed and nothing has worked yet. They honestly have no clue whats wrong which kinda scares me.
First off here is his problem. Occasionally when he starts the car it will idle very rough and struggles to accelerate to 30-40mph. When this happens he pulls over and shuts the car off for a few minutes then it will run fine again. When all of this happens there is no CEL or any light at all that flashes or comes on the dash.

Fuel pump
Throttle position sensor
Crank sensor
Plugs, wires and coil pack
My 2007 Prius has started making an unusual sound. At first I thought it was some kind of pump or something, but now???
When I put on the emergency brake, the brake pedal or when I put the car in park or take it out of park and put it in D, it makes a "chuck chuck chuck" sound, not high pitched, but not a low sound either. It seems to be coming from under the hood on the left side. It sounds something like a belt slipping or a pump with a squeak maybe?
It does not appear to make this noise when simply depressing the brake while driving, so I'm not sure it's the same abs actuator issue.
Ok so this past weekend I finally got my car up and running with kinetics stage 3 kit took it out for a drive plenty of times this weekend everything turned out great. Car pulls really hard. I also installed some new coilovers and spacers. This morning I woke up and drove my car to my local general tire shop to get aligned. When driving It first sounded great but after about 10 min, And yes I punched it a few times, the car started to make a wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh. With the speed of the car. Not from the engine! Now I'm hoping it's a wheel bearing or something because I've never heard one before.

2006 sonata 3.3L has an engine miss that is most prominent around 30 mph but not detectable at idle or during acceleration. It has new plugs that are properly gapped. Transmission fluid is good and fresh. I even checked the ignition coils and had all about .9. I even changed the fuel filter. What else could it be?
View 7 RepliesCheck engine light came on momentarily, car had poor acceleration. Light went out and ESC light came on. When the car was turned off and restarted, the ESC light went out.
I scanned the engine, no codes, either open, pending or historical.
Question, could the issues with the two lights be related? Or is there anything else I should check?
2007 Sonata GLS - I4; 55kmiles ... I plan to sea foam on my Sonata as it continues to have slow acceleration and poor mileage. Looking for a picture of the Brake Booster or Vacuum line? I want to make sure I am pouring it in the right place.
View 3 RepliesSince they replaced my transmission at 40,000 miles, I've noticed that occasionally, but not always, there is an unusual quick half second jerk or jump feeling when I first crank the car on a cold start. It doesn't happen all the time, just some times, but it has to be a cold start when I do feel it. What this could be? I'm thinking maybe some bolts weren't put tight enough when they installed the new transmission?
