Front Suspension - 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3. McPhersons make noise when going over a washboard road. It's as if the top bushing on the strut is not large enough. Quite annoying.
View 5 Repliesthis noise start like 4 month ago. I have taken the car to two mechanics and they weren't able to find where the noise is coming from. i suppose that the problem isnt really that tricky.
is kind hard to describe the nature of the sound.
mostly happen when i go over broken road or bumps where the suspension have to move up and down a little but very quickly

View 1 RepliesI have a 2005 NF V6 Sonata Elite - for some time now there has been a sporadic clunking noise in and around the suspension or front drivers side wheel of my car. It got a lot worse a week ago when I took the car off sealed roads for a short distance, almost sounding like a CV that had gone. However a mechanic checked the car over a few days ago and found the CV was fine, as was the driveline. It seems to clunk more when turning, and when I put the power on or off. I also detect a slight vibration or hum coming from the area concerned when taking gentle bends at moderate speed on smooth roads. I can assume the wheel bearings are fine, although the mechanic I went to perhaps isn't very familiar with the make/model of car. They went around the suspension and tightened some of the struts, which made a small improvement I think, but the car is still making the noise. What was the cause of the noise if known?
View 4 RepliesOk so I replaced my upper strut mount and my struts in the front along with the shocks in the rear.......... the squeak is still present when i go over a rougher bump and it is cold ..................SO i went on hma service and saw this...................
Symptom "Squeak or grunt-noise from the front suspension, occurs more in cold ambient temperatures-more noticeable over rough roads or when turning"
Suspect Area "Front stabilizer bar"
Remedy "Under these conditions, the noise is acceptable."
Wow so not acceptable i am going to try and lubricate this piece... Will report back

Looking for a suspension diagram that can be shared for this model? I need to fix the squeaking noise from front passenger side and would like to have an overview pic of the suspension system.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.
View 18 RepliesThe front suspension on my 07 Accent SE has been crunching when I drive over rough patches in the road. The car is at just over 60,000 miles, and I don't drive aggressively. I'm planning on replacing the front struts, but I'm not sure which parts to swap out. I've purchased some Monroe struts, but do I need to replace the strut mounts as well? And are there any other parts I should change while I'm in there?
View 2 RepliesI just bought my brand new 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L SE 3 weeks ago and have put 4000kms on it so far and from last week I am getting a rattling noise from just behind my steering wheel while going over washboard surfaces every time. Feels like something plasticy is loose around the upper steering column which rattles every time I go over a washboard surface. My university campus has a lot of rumble strips to slow cars down and that is where I noticed this noise very clearly.
I have taken my car to the local dealer and the mechanic there have acknowledged the problem after comparing the noise with a new car there. He tightened some bolts around the lower steering rack apparently but the problem is still there. He says to bring the car in after the problems gets significantly worse because it is still not severe enough for him to diagnose it and find what is causing it. I do not know much severe I need to the let the problem get before they do something about it. The dealership still has the ticket open for me; I will probably try to visit them next week again.

My 2003 Honda Element sometimes generates a vibration that feels just like driving down a washboard dirt road. You know one that the ridges are very close together. This only happens around 40 MPH with a load on the engine. At first I thought it was a wheel, tire or suspension issue. But I can make it stop instantly by pushing or releasing the gas pedal. So this leads me to think it is transmission related. This is a automatic. I would like to see the car sometime but would not feel right about passing on this problem without knowing the cost to fix it. Stumped in Seattle.
View 5 RepliesWe bought a 2014 hyundai sonata on 28th of october. every thing worked fine. When we test drove we didn't notice the road noise. but yesterday we did notice it and it is unbearable. it sounds like it is coming from the front. I called the dealer and told them this is too much. We asked if we could return the car. we only had it 3 days. The dealer says he can fix it. We think it is a design problem. We just sold our 2009 sonata which was a very good car.

First one I have a creaking in my front suspension when I go over bumps if I'm doing 50+mph it isn't heard anything slower you can hear it especially over speed bumps in parking lots. What could that be exactly? And also I'm looking to upgrade my headunit already got a single din but I'm wanting to replace the factory subwoofer. Can I replace it with a low power 8" aftermarket sub for better sound?
View 7 RepliesI'm considering buying a used '06 Sonata LX with 137k miles, and the front suspension squeaks badly. I read the entire thread about replacing upper control arms to see what I might get into if I purchase as-is, and while it honestly doesn't seem too bad I know other problems may lurk. Would you buy this car with a squeaky suspension, or would you expect the seller to fix it first? Would you insist on them replacing all front UCA + LCA + struts + mounts + alignment at the same time? Any issues to worry about with the rear?
The car was amazingly clean and well-cared for overall. It was parked outside and the interior and exterior look better than my '05 Magnum that was garaged! I did notice rust on the wiper arms, one screw that was out of the passenger rear grab handle (above door). Also the seller told me the front passenger door lock won't work electronically 98% of the time, and the drivers rear lock won't work 70% of the time. I'm assuming the solenoids are bad or something is stuck - I can see the locks twitch a little bit when I depress the lock/unlock switch, but not enough to actuate the locks.
My wife has a 2006 Sonata with 75k on it currently. As the weather has gotten colder in the last few months the front suspension has started squeaking... Its sounds like rubberish squeaking noise from both sides of the vehicle.. Sounds to be more towards the top the car. As the weather gets colder it gets louder and you hear it more often. I was thinking maybe it was front strut mounts? I had stood outside the car and tried to bounce the front end to see if i could pin point it better...and I can't seem to duplicate the noise by bouncing the vehicle while its parked.. but soon as I drive it.. I hear it again.

In the winter time the front passenger side is very squeaky, esp when going over bumps...
I had it into a shop to have a wheel bearing done and they said the balljoints needed to be replaced...
Well, all that did was firm things up, the ride was just as squeaky...
Now in summer, it's not nearly as bad... First thing in the morning there's some squeak over bumps but nothing like it is in the winter...
What the heck would this be?
2008 Sonata 2.4L ... I have an issue, hopefully minor, but when I drive over bumps I hear a slight rattle in the front suspension. My first guesses are either a sway bar, struts, or tie-rods.
My second issue is the steering wheel isn't centered. Best way to describe it is if you draw a line dead center on the top of the wheel and remember that spot, when driving straight it's about an inch or two to the right.
When I was at about 40k miles I started to have this problem. Driving above 35mph the road noise started to get louder. I first thought it was my tires but the noise went away after driving about 1k miles. Now I'm at 72k miles on different set of tires and the noise is even louder. According to a few mechanic shops, they say that there is not enough air flow going into the engine. But I'm not sure if that's the problem. It's not under warranty anymore and I can't just take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong.

The Power steering has been squeaking for quite some time. I have never changed out the power steering fluid and was wondering if this could be the cause!
View 7 RepliesMy wife's 09 Sonata SE AUTO 4-cycl.. I drove it last weekend and discovered a strange noise that can be heard after driving for a while at normal local road speeds.
The sound is like a combination of a whine and something that sounds like radio static. It can be heard very easily with the radio off and stopped at a red light. However, this sound also exist while the car is in motion. It becomes more difficult to hear as the road noise increase.
When I shift from D to N while stopped or driving, the noise immediately goes away. When I shift back to D, it sometimes comes back.
The consistent pattern seems to be that the noise will occur after having driven for a while at a consistent speed of at least 30-40mph. If I drive around the neighborhood for a while at low speeds and then stop, the noise will not be there.
I have not made effort to hear it from the outside of the car.
So I started hearing these random squeaking noises coming from the front suspension its what it sounds like. This only happens thou when i drive up into a drive way that is slanted. Or any kind of slow making slanted turns (~5-10mph)
I'm not 100% positive but it sounds like the suspension because it only makes noise when the car moves a little when ever i go up a drive way.
