I have a 2006 Sonata LX with 91,000 ,miles and today it starting making a clunk sound when I would accelerate normally as it was going from 2nd to 3rd gear. My question is this: I have 91,000 miles on it and have owned since new in 2005 (8 years). Does it sound like a transmission problem and would a transmission problem be covered under the 10 year, 100,000 miles warranty?
View 4 RepliesFor the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
I have a 2006 Mazda 6 that ive owned for a year now. It has this random problem tho.... when accelerating into 4th gear it makes a horrendous racket like the bottom is falling out of the car or something and sorta jerks. it has been doing this a long time. other than that it drives fine! i have no mechanical knowledge about cars so im totally clueless! this seems to happen when accelerating on an incline.

View 1 RepliesTowing with my 07 F150. I now have a noise all of a sudden. I worry that is the rear end going out. As I accelerate normal from a stop, I , for one feel bump-clunk sensation, as if I have a bad u joint. 2nd I now have a "whip whip whip" whirring sound, sound character speeds up as I speed up.
I hope the sound is the brakes, because I know they are getting down to the end of their life.
I just bought a 2007 GS350 that had 45k miles and have noticed something strange with I believe the transmission. So far I have has 2 times when I have hit the brakes hard and had to accelerate again and either heard a clunk noise or even had the tires burp once after the clunk. Tonight I hit the brakes hard to avoid a red light and heard a clunk. I'm going to get it checked out at the dealer but I bet they will tell me they can't reproduce the problem. I have 2 other Lexus's (IS300) and have had no problems so this is a first.
View 6 RepliesSo I have a 05 mk4 golf 2.0 automatic. Ive noticed that when i take it from park to drive the car shakes and makes a huge clunk sound like I just got hit by something. Turns out it was a motor mount, I think they call it the dog bone cause its attached to the body & engine of the car. So it was replaced but the car still does it. But not as hard & not as much. Before when I revved the car it would kind of shake and dance. Since the replacement it parks still when I rev it. But that noise is still there. Someone told me it could be another mount or the torque converter.

View 11 Replies My GTI is about a month old and I just recently started to notice a slight crunchy sound if I accelerate from 1st gear really slow (right around 1k rpm, maybe a little higher). You have to be going pretty slow and it goes away the second it goes to 2nd gear. It's almost like a creaking wooden floor but more metallic sounding, or driving over a soda can... It's really hard to describe.
I noticed this about week 2, but it seems to have gotten a little louder since then, or maybe i'm just going crazy... I have my first complimentary check up tomorrow morning. They are also going to be installing the waste-gate clip for the rattle noise, which I also noticed after the first week or so.
I will post on the results when I bring it up to the dealer tomorrow. In the meantime. I've looked around and one forum seemed to have a similar sound described, and said it was also the wastegate rattle, just not in the typical 2k-3k rpm range... I'm just hoping it's not a finicky dsg/mechatronic issue with the clutch not disengaging correctly.
I'm a 2nd owner of a 2011 Sonata, and am currently at 99,800 miles. I have an extended warranty (so I've been told) that covers powertrain I believe until 100,000? When turning the wheel to the right then left, or vice versa, theres a clunk/thud sound produced from the steering column.
I am assuming this is not normal. Will my hyundai dealer cover this since it seems to be a common annoyance on these cars. Is it dangerous to not get it fixed?
So out of no where I have a Clunk type sound coming from my steering column. But only when I turn the steering wheel five percent either way. Steering is still 100 percent responsive though.

It used to happen less often but I took it to the dealer to fix and they lubricated the caliper pins and now it happens frequently. I've read that the Sonata has some issues with the calipers. I would like to repair it and lubing the calipers made it worse.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T with less than 7k miles on it. I commute about 14 miles to work. During this drive, I hear a clunk/thud in the undercarriage that occurs usually 2 or 3 times each drive. It sounds like it might be coming from the wheel well. Originally I thought my tires were picking up rocks on the road and throwing them up into the wheel well. If any of you are familiar with the sound of dried mud releasing from a tire or the wheel well while driving a truck, this sound is very similar. It might just be me, but I feel like it is occurring while turning the wheel/straightening it out after a turn. Today it happened while changing lanes twice, and once taking a right hand turn semi-quickly at a green light. I know that I am not running anything over that is visible while driving.

I love this truck, but I have noticed a clunk sound when I put it in reverse and also a same if not similar sound when I'm driving and slow down. It makes a clunk sound when it shifts to a lower gear, (automatic). Now, I was thinking it was a U joint at some point and crawled under there and started to grab them and see if there was any play in any of the spots but found no play. I checked it a few times, thinking well it could be just the point the U joint stopped and that would explain no play but after a few times of crawling under I still never found any.

View 12 RepliesI cant recall if these sounds were there when i first bought the car, probably because i have the radio on most times. I think the buzzing sounds were present in the last month at least.
After i start up my car and even after idling for a while, i hear a buzzing sound coming from the engine. It gets louder when I accelerate. When I let go of the gas, the buzzing sound lags for a few seconds and then quiets down a little bit, but still can hear it in the background.
I lifted the hood up to listen more closely. I am not totally sure, but i think i can also hear a faint hissing sound ( sounds like leaking air?). I cant pinpoint where it is, but its around the engine.
I also notice that when I am idle, the MPG number in the dashboard is dropping fairly quickly. Like 0.1 mpg every 20 seconds. This is new and started today. I last drove it 4 days ago and didn't notice it happening then and i watch the mpg very closely every time i drive. Could there possibly be some gas leak?
I bought a 2006 Sonata V6 3.3L with 137k on it about a month ago. Engine and Trans is great, but I noticed an issue that developed within the past week and a half or so.
I am one to always engage the parking brake when parked, to relieve pressure on the parking paw in the transmission. After about a week of heavy use of the parking brake, I began to hear a slight 'clunk, clunk, clunk' coming from the rear passenger wheel (it actually sounded like something was loose in the trunk, but ruled it out). The 'clunk' sound at first only happened going over rough or bumpy roads, but within the past week or so it's gotten louder and more consistent. It now 'clunks' regardless of speed or road surface.
I used the parking break today for the first time while the car was in motion, and when pulled it sqreached very loud, didn't really stop the car, but the 'clunk' became very loud while the break was pulled - shockingly loud, actually.
A couple of days ago I took the rear passenger tire off while jacked up, and spun the wheel. With neither the parking or regular breaks engaged, the wheel made a 'clunk' sound very similar to that it makes on the road. Took of the Tire/Rim and spun the Rotor, to hear the same sound. Attempted to wiggle the Rotor and found no play at all.
At first, the clunk went away when you pressed the floor board brake pedal, even just a slight bit stopped the noise. Now it doesn't seem to stop it any longer.
My main idea is that the parking brake in the Rotor is the culprit, given that the issues didn't arise until I started using the parking brake - and the fact that brake appears to not work very well. However, my dad tells me he thinks it's a wheel bearing. I don't think it is - as its not making any metal on metal sounds, nor is it very difficult to rotate the Rotor while jacked up.
06 Sonata GLS V-6 ... While driving and you hit a dip in the road I get a clunk. It only happens when the tire has to drop suddenly. When it bumps up it's quiet. I live 1 1/2 hours from a reputable repair place, over 2 1/2 hours from a Hyundai dealer.
View 2 Replies2007 Azera 120k miles. Have noticed first thing in the morning when shifting from 4th to 5th gear, I hear a clunk.. Yesterday I heard two clunks when downshifting from 5th to 4th. Tried shifting the car manually today and was able to replicate the problem. After 15 minutes of driving, the problem is gone.Never seems to happen in the afternoon after car has been driven.Transmission fluid is full. Have always changed at the 60k intervals.Fluid is not burnt. Light pink color.
What could possibly be causing this? Is this likely to get worse? How long might I have before the car might become not drivable ? I ask this because I have been considering trading it in for a new car. Now seems to be a good time to buy a 2016 car, since the 2017"s are almost out.
My 2007 Sonata V6 limited would produce a pop / clunk sound (sometimes 2-3 in succession) under these circumstances
- Car is coming to a stop (brake applied)
- When I release my brakes, press on the accelerator, a pop / clunk sound would ensue
It doesn't happen all the time. I noticed it's more prevalent when it's hot outside or when I've driven the car for a little bit
My mechanic re-tightened the subframe bolts and visually checked bushings / ball joints but everything seems tight.
