Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Cannot Raise Window - Popping Noise
May 4, 2012
So today, when I rolled down my passenger window (2007 Sonata GLS) to talk to someone, I heard a popping sound and the window refused to roll back up. I got the car home and started tearing into the door panel (okay, not literally). By viewing different threads here, I have the door panel off, outside handle is off, all screws loosened (including the 3 for the door latch) and am trying to get the inner sheet metal panel off.
From everything I've read, you need to roll the window up the whole way in order to get the inner panel off; however I cannot get the window up the whole way! By lifting up on it, I have it about 2/3 raised, but it won't budge any more. I have been able to see that the window cable is broken (which explains why the window won't raise), but am at a loss on how to proceed. I'm leery of trying to force the window up any more. I'm tempted to try to pry the inner panel back enough to get the two bolts holding the window loose, but don't want to force *that* either.
So, how to get the window all the way up? And/or the inner door panel off?

I rented my car for a few days on Turo and it returned with this problem. The renter says nothing happened, who knows. When I raise or lower the window, there is a loud pop/crack that happens. It always happens at the same height. I can raise and lower the window for a couple inch around that point and reproduce that sound everythime.

My 2006 sonata 85,XXXX miles on the car and after putting the new rims on the car. I am feeling a bit of popping from my power steering at low speeds when turning. The Power steering has been squeaking for quite some time. I have never changed out the power steering fluid and was wondering if this could be the cause!

We have a 2008 NF, and have been experiencing popping noises from the drivers side near the door. Especially when it's been colder out, but in general.
The tie-rod ends, ball joints, and the struts have been replaced. The question is: What we is it likely to be?
The car has ~100k on it, so it was not really to surprising that those items would need to be replaced.
However, since I didn't have time to do it, we had someone else do the eval and work.
Are there any typical issues that stand out with the NF Sonata that would cause this based on what I've told you all?
It's a great car, but this is driving us nuts.

I've been hearing a popping noise occasional when reversing into a parking spot for about a year no, its like 3-8 pops each time. I looked at the CV joints and the rubber hosing is intact. I am pretty sure this particular noise now is not ball joints squeaking.
How long can I let this slide without replacing. Is the CV joint sold as one whole piece?
BTW I'm checking out the 2013 Sante-Fe....

My 2006 Sonata has the 3.3L V6. It's been remarkably trouble free for over 201000 miles now, but has recently started having a "bucking" issue. It first it was pretty subtle. My wife noticed it too, and we thought maybe we were causing it. It progressively got stronger, and I started noticing some noise when idling with the window down. Also the check engine light started coming on. I took it to the dealer. They said the cam position sensor was bad. The noise was caused by something else, which they fixed.
To make a long story short, the car is now back at the dealership for the third time in the last few weeks. It will run great for a while, then suddenly start "bucking". The other day it died on me in heavy traffic. Fortunately I was close to the dealership so I took it back over there (second time). I got it back Monday of this week. It ran great on the drive home. Tuesday morning the bucking started before I could even get out of the driveway, so I drove my truck to work. Today (Wednesday) I drove it back to the shop. It ran fine the entire way. Check engine light is back on.
I have really enjoyed this car. Had it for about 8 years now. Full Synthetic oil every 5000 miles and a filter. I had really hoped to turn over 300,000 with it.

My radio has great FM reception except when I turn on the rear wndow defroster. When I do, the radio sounds faint and crackly as though I were listening to a very distant station. As soon as I turn off the defroster, the reception comes back to normal. This is on a '09 Sonata limited - this did not happen on my previous '08 Azera and '06 Sonata LX...

So I decided to drive my car this morning after almost 2 weeks of it sitting in the garage, got to the parking structure, pushed the button to lower the windows so I can swipe my auto parking card and it rolled down fine. Then tried to close the window and heard this metallic clicking sound and the window wouldn't raise. Called the dealership and drove right to them to look into it. Now I am stuck with a Jetta until my car is fixed.

I purchased a 1985 celica GTS, convertible, rear wheel drive. I am having a problem with the drivers side power window. I can raise and lower the window with a direct 12v battery hook up to either the lift motor or from the terminals that connect to the switch. The switch will lower the motor but not raise it. When activated to raise the window you can hear the motor enterguise but will not lift. I check the voltage at the switch and I am getting 12 volts. What should I check next?

2010 Explorer XLT. The left rear power window lowers, but does not raise back up with the driver's master control switch (the 4 switch control on the driver's door). It does, however, lower and raise fine with the single switch on it's own rear door. Thinking it was a bad master switch module on the driver's door, I replaced it and the same thing still happens - works fine with it's own single switch but will only lower and not raise with the driver's door switch. All the other windows work fine. This has me totally stumped.

Just replaced the front struts last week and the upper control arms this morning. After putting everything back together I drove her around the block and noticed a horrible popping and squeaking like something was loose. I quickly limped her home and double checked that everything went back on properly and was tight. Car is the V6 with eibach's and about 103,000 miles I have drain and filled the tranny every 30-40k.
What this sound might be? It goes away once I am above about 10-15 mph and sounds like it is coming from the center underside of the car. I will also try to get a video of the sound while I am driving.

I'm experiencing a really annoying issue with my 2007 3.3L sonata. Whenever I am making a right turn (with the breaks applied), I hear a knocking or "popping" sound from the driver's side front end. It's not a single "pop", but multiple "pop"..."pop"..."pop". The noise does not occur when making a right turn without the breaks applied, not does it happen when making left turns. Also, during a right turn, if I release the breaks, the sound will immediately stop. The car only has 64k KM (about 40k miles).

Here is a video of my sonata exhaust running rich and "popping" when i ease off the gas when in P/N (haven't driven it enough to recreate it on the street in gear). I also included a teaser pic of my plasti dip project which is almost done and ready for me to enter the Ride Of The Year.

2006 Sonata. I had to remount the drivers window glass which had slipped out of the clamps and fell inside the door.
Afterwards, if using the window auto-up feature, the window reaches the top and reverse back down to about the one-third closed point. Using the normal (non-auto up) it remains properly closed at the top.
My first thought was it needed to be reset by the well documented hold the switch up for at least .2 seconds method. I've done that and it hasn't solved the issue.
There doesn't appear to be any unusual resistance to movement which might activate any 'arm in the window' type safety feature. (if it even exists)
I would also expect that type of thing to work regardless if using auto-up or not anyways.

I bought my Sonata new in 2008, it has 55K miles on it.
This morning I put the drivers side window down, no problems, and when I went to close it, there was a grinding noise and the window wouldn't move.
I'm wondering if this would be covered under the 5/60K mile warranty?

I have a problem with my drivers window, it will only work sometimes. It will just stop working, and to get it working again I have to mess with the window switch, pressing it up and down, up and down, sometimes locking and unlocking the windows a few times will get it to work. There is nothing that I have noticed that makes it start working faster, or stop working, it just decides on its own. I was thinking it might be the window regulator, but I wasn't sure if it would be that because it still works sometime?

Today I was going to wash my car and rolled my driver's window down on the way there. When I got to the car wash I attempted to roll my driver's side window back up. It nudged ever so slightly up about a quarter inch and then nothing. It had totally stopped. I fiddled with the switch and it would go back down completely but when attempting to roll the window back up it would sometimes not move at all, move ever so slightly or move just about a quarter of an inch and stop. Is it possible to just get the window up manually in order to at least block the elements? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do. I'm tempted to run to the drug store and grab some packing tape to seal the window off.
