Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Bouncy Feeling When Driving - Shocks / Struts Replacement
Oct 3, 2014
I've purchased my 2006 Sonata (LX) 2 years ago and noticed a very bouncy feeling when I drive. When I hit potholes and bumps I can feel the impact on the lower body, and when turning, hitting a bump would pull the car slightly in one direction. I've read through the forums that this might be normal (?) for 2006 Sonata's? I wanted to make sure if this is common occurrence and if changing the struts would make any difference. Here are pictures of my front and rear struts......

I'm looking at replacing the struts and shocks in my 04 Prius. Last time I replaced them with some cheap KYBs I found on auto parts warehouse. I was hoping for an improvement over the old worn out parts, but didn't feel an improvement. Well after 5+ years and who knows how many miles I figured it was time to replace them again.

I have a new Corolla and live in a city with really bad roads. My other vehicles I've had before this one have all taken a real sh#@ kicking and abuse as a result of the roads. I'm wondering if changing out the shocks and struts before they get too worn is good preventative maintenance to protect the overall integrity of the car? If this is something I should do, how many kilometres on the shocks / struts should I have before change out?

What additional parts should I be replacing when I do this? Spring seats, bump stops, etc?

I already have sport Eibach springs and my shocks and struts are about to go, but this gives me an opportunity I can either go coilovers or all sport suspension. I want to go a little lower though than what its sitting at now, especially when I put my 18x8 wheels on. I definitely want to go static, air ride is too much. So I was wondering if I went with the blistein sport shocks and struts with the sprt eibach springs would it sit lower?

My bad struts/shocks have allowed my tires we wear weird and now I sound like a jacked up truck with mud tires going down the road! I'm going to replace the struts and shocks in my car but do you think I can just keep riding on the tires as they still have a ton of tread on them? I can deal with the noise until they are ready to be changed but was just wondering if that can cause any other issue?

My R is coming up on 140k miles. The shocks and struts are pretty beat and it rattles badly. I'm really thinking about just replacing the suspension components with oe type stuff or is it really worth it to spend the extra money on a coil over kit? A little lower stance and some adjustability would be nice, but not super important to me. I'd have to get a lower end coil over kit too, so is it really worth it? Or should I just replace the stuff and be done with it?

I've owned my '04 echo since new. It now has 172,000 km on it. It still has the factory original shocks and struts in it. Surely its time to replace them. I've never owned a car that used struts before. Now I have read here before if they aren't leaking then they are ok.
I guess I could do the old shock test of bouncing the car up and down and see how many times the car bounces after you stop pushing up and down on the fenders. The car just seems to ride harsher over the bumps in the road now.

I went into a shop today and got my corolla checked out and they said that its shock absorbers and struts should be replaced because the oils were leaking and they told me the total estimate of my cost (parts+labors) are about 1300 dollars.
Like, do I need to buy all shock absorbers, struts and strut springs for each of the wheel? (front 2 + rear 2 = total of 4 of each) ??

I have a 2006 Sonota and I'm getting a slight rub feeling when I turn the steering to the left or right. What should my concern be on this and what steps should I take to solve this problem?

So I have an 06 Sonata with 56k miles on it. A few months back it started squeaking by the struts. It got worse last month and was pretty loud when going over speed bumps. Especially in the mornings
During my research on replacing them I came across a you tube video of a guy using AT-205 resealer to fix the squeak. Of course I bought some and was about to try it out but noticed that there was a lot of dirt and grime around the struts and other rubber mounts.
I decided before using the AT-205 I should clean everything first. Took some degreaser and sprayed everything I could see, including any other rubber mounts in the area. Rinsed thoroughly with water. Let it dry overnight and before applying the AT-205 decided to see if there was any change. To my surprise, there is no more squeaking. (It has only been 2 days though).
Hopefully it will not come back otherwise will use the AT-205 and failing that, will have to take the plunge and replace the struts.

Maybe it's because I've been away for two weeks and out of the RC, but when I drove for the first time in a while the car seems like it's noticeably bouncy on relatively smooth roads.
Again it could be my break from driving it. I mostly drive on Sport+ mode.

probably need a right front strut, but have a number of questions about a remanufactured stut specific to my phaeton:
1. are the left and right struts the same? different oem part numbers, but some remanufactured struts say they replace either side numbers?
2. my 04 has had the struts replaced due to one strut having failed, are the remanufactured struts all configured to fit the new replacement struts (all say "04-06 model years, but no mention of early 04 struts)?
3. are the w12 struts different from the v8 struts, i haven't seen part numbers but i note there is are few dollars difference in oem cost and there is a different "box" to check in ordering from a vw supplier for the v8 strut as oppoaed to the w12 strut. (simply, will the v8 strut fit a w12)?

The other day my 2003 Subaru Forester was getting its oil changed and when it was done the mechanic informed me that my struts were leaking and needed to be replaced. He didn't seem to think it was urgent or anything. He mentioned something about roll overs and the wearing of the tires, but I'm not entirely sure what this means for the car. It has 140K on it, and I drive it a lot on the high way. I'm also planning to go on a trip in Mid July that's about a thousand mile drive. So, how soon should this be done? What do leaking struts mean for a car?

Just had my front shocks replaced (one was leaking) at a local indy shop. The GX rides so much better now!
Problem is when I picked it up this morning, the VCS, ABS, traction lights were all on. Checked the gas cap, but that's okay (actually had the cap replaced recently due to a bad cap causing the same problem).
What would cause the lights to go on after replacing the front shocks? Is it merely a coincidence I wonder or did the tech perhaps forget to connect something?

Looking for a link for a novice to see how to replace the front struts on my 07? I'm thinking I'm capable of getting them out, but will take them to a shop to compress the spring and do the switch.
