My 2009 Sonata has developed a 'rubbing' sound that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. The brakes are new, the rotors are fine, there are no marks on the tire or wheel. This sound only shows up when I apply the brakes and generally at slowing speeds. If I press the brake pedal down hard the sound doesn't emit. We have checked suspension, brakes, rotors, tire and wheel.
View 2 RepliesEver since I purchased my 2009 Sonata Limited, it has had a rattle in the rear end some place. Hyundai replaced brake pads, calipers, shocks, etc and checked sway bar but rattle still there. It is especially noticeable in below freezing temperatures.
View 26 RepliesI'm having trouble figuring out how to remove the interior rear door handle from my 2009 Sonata. My wife scrapped the back door along a concrete parking post. I was able to find a replacement door in the same color, but the interior doesn't match. I'm able to get both door cards off but cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the inside door handle.
I have: removed the screw and slid the handle over to get it off the side of the door. Popped the two cables off the door housing and was able to remove the cable from the door handle connection. But for the lock switch mechanism, that appears to be encircled by plastic and I can't see a way to remove it without breaking the locking mechanism.
For the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
I have pushed the back windshield, and haven't gotten a peep anywhere, so it's not that. It's coming from the outside, because it is so much louder driving slower with the windows down. It appears to be coming from the rear left of the car. It's a definite "creak," and not a "thunk." Sounds like creepy stairs being walked over repeatedly...I haven't investigated hard enough to really pin point the direct spot, but it would sound to me like it has something to do with the suspension in the back left. However, it's not any more prominent when I hit a bump than it is just accelerating or decelerating, so that also leads me away from it being a suspension issue. I know I should look further into it to locate the spot.

I have owned this 2009 Sonata for a year now..in the past month whenever I am at a stop and go to drive (at slower speeds is when its noticed) you hear a slight click sound from the rear. I took it to a local fix it shop today and they said the sway bar link on the left rear side was bent (from a fender bender since repaired). Well this did not fix the issue. They also said my rear brakes have 30% wear left in them. Do you think for any reason this would be the clicking? The noise happens as well when Im backing out of my garage...at low speeds.
View 14 Replies2006 Sonata 2.4 GLS. My car has done 60000 miles and has developed a creaking/knocking (metal on metal clunk) sound at the left rear. it is only noticeable at low speeds when accelerating and decelerating in stop start traffic.
It is not the shock as I have removed the shock and driven the car and the noise is still there, I have also looked at all the bushes and nothing is obvious. I have also checked tightness of all bolts/nuts.
My 06 Sonata LX 3.3 has me smiling except for two items, MPG, which I hope will improve after break-in, and a "k-thump" sound from the area of both rear tires. It occurs as I pass over fairly small bumps and ridges in the pavement, and remind me of the sound that is made by a bad shock. I took it to the dealer at 900 miles. They drove it and inspected the rear end and proclaimed all was OK. They claim it is caused by the low profile tires. I have never had low profile tires before, but it seems to me if that were the cause, the front tires would make the same sound, but they don't. The front end is sooo quiet. All tires have the recommended 30 PSI.

View 2 RepliesWhat this noise is, still getting used to having axles and such in the rear as well. Its a rubbing / winding sound coming from the rear, and seems to only make noise when the clutch is engaged / in gear and accelerating. It stops (probably from the # of rotations making it hard to hear) around 15-20 mph. It starts slow and of course increases with speed. Its not a nasty dead-wheel-bearing sound, just a rub. Car has H&R coils, stock wheels no spacers, haldex blue, stock exhaust w/ resonator delete and flapper mod. (Trying to think of any mods in that area that could change the cars dynamic) ...
View 4 RepliesI have a 2009 Camry that makes a metal to metal rubbing noise when turning left. t is coming from the Front Right passenger side. I recently changed out the bearing and hub on the front right but I still have the noise when turning left. Also, when driving normally and going straight there seems to be somewhat of a dull click click click noise.

I have a weird rubbing/grinding noise that seems to be coming from the front, passenger side of my car. It's a very weird rubbing/grinding noise, almost rubber like, but somewhat metallic. I recently got new tires and almost thought it had something to do with that, but that seems unlikely.
When decelerating from about 20 to 15 mph, the noise starts. It's a cyclic noise that is proportional to the speed of the car. It occurs while going in a straight line or while turning, but gets significantly louder in a turn. It instantly stops as soon as I hit the accelerator at any point.
Another important fact is that the noise does not happen when the car is cold. You have to drive about 5-10 minutes for it to start.
I just bought new KYB shocks/struts that I planned to install (probably not myself although I am tempted), so now is probably a good time to dig into the problem. I replaced brake pads and turned the rotors within the last year. I wouldn't be surprised if the suspension needs some additional TLC as I have not replaced any components and have owned it since it had 13K on the odometer.
I have recently had the rear brakes on 2001 Aurora replaced. When car is driven about 20 minutes, there is a rubbing sound from the rear when the brakes are applied. I have taken the car back to the shop and they said for some reason the new pads were worn and put new pads on thinking it was bad pads. The noise continues. Is there anything special that must be done on this car when the rear brakes are serviced? Are there special type of brake pads that must be used for rear disc brakes? I am just going to sell the car if I can't figure out how to fix this problem soon.
View 6 RepliesJust got a 2010 lariat supercrew...I put 1900 miles on it so far. When slowly letting off the accelerator (doing between 20-30 mph and between 1000-1500 rpm) there is a distinct rubbing sound for about 1-2 seconds...it is now sounding more like grinding now...took it to the shop today...(they couldn't duplicate (because service rep documented 60 mph instead of the 20-30 mph...went back at the end of the day to ride with the tech, and i was able to duplicate so now they have something to work with....also the noise happens mostly when the path of travel is either level road or slight to great incline..it has not happened on a down slope....

I discovered a few weeks ago that my 2009 Sonata 2.4L SE had a sticking caliper on the rear driver's side. It had gone bad on the passenger side as well, but not as bad. I had the calipers, rotors, and pads replaced on the rear yesterday. As soon as that was done, I started hearing a noise when braking that sounded like a rubbing noise, almost like a long "sigh." It happened at any speed as long as I pressed the pedal far enough to bring the vehicle almost to a complete stop.
I originally thought the calipers weren't the right fit, but the parts I confirmed the parts I ordered (Nastra) through Rock Auto were correct. I've driven about 80 miles since then and nothing has changed. I didn't see anything wrong when I took the tire off, but I don't think this sound is normal. Taking it in to the mechanic tomorrow. Could it be a wheel bearing? Wrong parts?
I have noticed this rubbing, not quite grinding sound/vibration when I take off and turn. For instance pulling out of a parking lot and turning either left or right. Truck will do it only after it's been driven a while. I originally thought it was just the limited slip ratcheting but recently just changed the rear axle fluid adding Amsoil this time. I did not add any friction modifier because I didn't think the Amsoil needed it. So after going on a 500 mile trip I find it is still doing it. The truck sits at the stock ride height and has stock size wheels and tires on it. What it could be ? It only happens in the turn, not while driving straight. It still sounds like the differential but just want to be sure.

While making the turn i noticed a light rubbing scrapping noise when i had my wheel turned to the passenger side. I got out made sure nothing was suck to the wheel or under the car. Heard it all the way home, got up this morning checked car again nothing seemed wrong drove to school noise was gone.

Today was the first time towing my bass boat with this truck, and on the way to the lake, I keep hearing a weird noise, sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, something like a rubbing banging type noise. At first I thought maybe the factory hitch wasn't bolted on very well, but this is not the case(as I could tell not much to see under there) I tried jumping on the trailer to emulate the sound but this didn't work. Its not the trailer brake, which is a self actuating system, that checked out ok.
View 3 RepliesI have 2011 Sonata Ltd. As I cross over 60 mph, I hear a whinning sound from the rear wheels. I have 50K miles on it and is still under warranty. All 4 tyres were recently mounted and balanced by another dealer.
Dealer checked and said it is from tyres, but also said the tyres look good. Rotated the tyres but I am still getting sound from behind. At times it is quite loud.
