A couple of months ago the front driver side of my Sonata started creaking whenever I applied the break. I took it to a local mechanic as well as Hyundai service and after a couple of thousand dollars, it still makes the noise . Both upper and bottom control arms were changed, rotors, pads, brakes, bearings, strut mount, and some other minor stuff that I can't recall...its loud and ANNOYING....
View 3 RepliesI bought a brand new 2010 Sonata in April 2010. So far I only have 2500 miles on it. The problems I am having are:
1. When I apply the brakes, there is some vibrating sounds coming...
2. The passenger side front tire does not hold air more than 25-26 psi.. If I raise it to 34 or even 32 psi, it drops down to 26 psi within a week and then stops leaking...
I noticed yesterday a sound, like a grinding sound, *sometimes* as I apply the brakes to stop. I'm at 68k. The noise only happens when the brakes are applied so I suspect there is an issue with my brakes again.
Some BACKGROUND info: At around 60k (or 8 months ago roughly), the front pads were replaced after the brakes were squealing and a pulsating brake pedal when stopping. The pads were replaced by a dealer. In addition, both front/rear rotors were turned at the same time. Rear pads had 40% at the time and were not replaced.
Some weeks later the pulsation came back and I went back again and they machined them again. For this current issue I was thinking about taking the car to someplace local (not a dealer) and getting a free brake evaluation of what is going on.
I'm also concerned that all this machining the dealer did to eliminate the pulsation may have decreased the life of the rotors and perhaps they need replacement now.
I recently bought a 2007 Sonata V6, and the brakes pulsate (when applied) at highway speeds, so I am looking to replace the front rotors & pads. I have been told that the OEM rotors/pads aren't great & that as a result many owners have a brake pulsating/vibration issue.

It squeaks while driving and then when I hit the brakes it lets out an even louder annoying squeak. Obviously I was thinking its something involving my brakes but why would it squeak while I'm just driving? What could it be?
View 11 RepliesThe other day, I was coming home from work. After dropping off co worker, an old man pulled out infront of me. I applied the brakes. As car came to stop I heard a loud thump come from rear. Sounded like i was either bumped by a car, or maybe my entire rear end slid up 5 inches. But that's kinda what it was like. Then after the thump, I put my foot on gas pedal, and instead of car moving forward, the engine just revved. No movement, revved to like 3 grand. I let foot off gas pedal. And tried again. Car moved as normal. Then on the way home i attempted the same combo of rather quick brake and then gas. Same kinda thing happened. Not so hard of a thump. But noise from rear followed by the car no moving, just revving up till i stop and then try again. So even tho my story may suck n my explanation my suck more, whats going on? I just picked this wagon up. 01 glx 65k.
View 3 RepliesWe have a 2009 Sonata with barely 50k miles - always garaged. It has been a great car but recently has come up with a couple of quirks.
I was driving last week and heard a loud "pop" behind me. Really loud..... I pulled over and found that the left rear window was missing!
I took the car to a local auto glass place and they found the missing window down in the door, I really though that it had fallen out and actually went back to the spot on the road where the noise happened and looked for it.
Anyway, the glass shop lifted the window back in place but had little interest in making the power part work again.
Now, I have had power windows fail on other cars before but they always got stuck, I have never had one "disappear". Would this be a safety issue that Hyundai might cover?
So I was told I had a brake light out? Went and bought new bulb and replaced. Turn on headlights and the single filament lights. so when brakes are applied the second filament should light up that give the brighter affect.
Well when brakes applied the bulb goes out completely? Take foot off brake and the single filament comes back on. The other tail light operates as it should. Even used bulb from working tail light with same results.
Car started fine but stalled on first brake application with the skid-control light illuminated, restarted fine but stalled again on next brake application (skid-control light stayed on). Decided to head for the dealer which was only a few blocks away, drove there knowing that it may stall when brakes were applied (engine would start, idle and operate when driving but the problem would only occur on brake application.... approx when the transmission would down shift to third or second gear). My last stop before turning into the dealer's parking lot, the engine quit and refused to restart.... finally came back to life after about 5mins and was able to complete my somewhat dangerous trip (whole journey was on very quiet back streets). At first I thought it could be related to the infamous brake switch but the service rep informed me that they couldn't communicate with any control module with the scan tool. Now I sit and wait, hopefully they will call with some good news soon.
View 9 RepliesRight this clicking noise is really annoying me now, every time AFTER i brake i hear this click, the faster i stop the louder the click is, also when I am in neutral and suddenly rev its clicks sometimes but rarely, I am thinking it could be a loose exhaust somewhere? Its definitely coming from under my foot area. When I brake cornering it clicks too. Checked my control arms and everything, that's not rattling at all? Need to get rid of this click sound!!
View 3 RepliesWhile playing the radio or a CD the unit will frequently generate a LOUD "pop" thru the speakers. It will repeat itself at various intervals which leads to my turning the unit off as it's most disturbing. I temporarily removed the negative battery cable but that didn't reset / correct it.

A few months ago I noticed a creaking noise from the front brakes when nearing the end of a complete stop, and the closer completely stopped, the more pronounced the sound is. I took it to my mechanic assuming I needed new brake pads (had put about 40k on the car without replacing them).
The mechanic told me the pads were fine but the rotors needed to be "cleaned," which he did. The sound stopped VERY briefly but then returned and is getting worse. It's not quite a grinding, more like a tight-sounding creaking that "rolls" as the car stops.
Now, they don't feel any less effective or impaired, and as I said, it's only near the end of the stop, maybe 20mph and below. No noise in the beginning part of the stop. If the brake pads and rotors are both fine as my mechanic claimed...
I have 2008 Hyundai Sonata. I hear some noise from front wheels when i turn to right or left with breaks applied. There is no any noise when turning without break. the cv joint has been replaced but no any result. Still there is noise.
View 8 RepliesWhen I was at about 40k miles I started to have this problem. Driving above 35mph the road noise started to get louder. I first thought it was my tires but the noise went away after driving about 1k miles. Now I'm at 72k miles on different set of tires and the noise is even louder. According to a few mechanic shops, they say that there is not enough air flow going into the engine. But I'm not sure if that's the problem. It's not under warranty anymore and I can't just take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong.
View 14 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2009 Kia Rio. I really am enjoying the car. While there is nothing fancy to it, it gets me to and from work and that's basically what I need. However, when I apply the brakes, there is a high-pitched squeal that is made until the car is almost at a stop. It does this I would say 90% of the time. The brakes work just fine and are in fact very sensitive. I've tried researching this online and it seems a lot of people have this problem because of the type of brake pad used. The dealership I purchased it from is more than an hour away from my home, so I am reluctant to drive down there if there really is nothing that will be done.
View 3 RepliesWe bought a used 2009 Nissan Rogue about a year ago. According to the previous owner, all services were done at the local Nissan dealer.
About 4000 km after we bought it, my wife noticed that it was shuddering after she applied the brakes. So I took it to the dealer... and they said that the front calipers were seized and needed to be replaced. It only had 82,000 km or so (51,000 miles) on it then. The previous owners paid for the repair, which included new calipers, pads and rotors.
Fast forward to yesterday, and I was told by the independent garage that we take all of our vehicles to that one of the rear calipers had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle only has 104,000 km on it (about 65,000 miles). Again, the caliper had to be replaced, along with all pads and rotors on the rear end. When I commented to him that we've replaced 3 out of 4 calipers, he said that the other rear caliper looked like it had been replaced too.
My question to the group is - should calipers that have been serviced properly seize like that? I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't if they're being checked regularly and serviced properly.
Am I correct? Or not? I've owned a lot of cars in my lifetime, and this is the first time I've had seized calipers on any of them.
I have a 2012 FX4, 5.0. The dealer tuned the front rotors and replaced the pads at 19k because of a bad vibration when brakes were applied. Now at 45k, the same thing is starting to happen again. I am pretty sure it is not my driving because my 2001 F150 4x4 had 162,000 miles on it and never had a rotor off of it or turned and was on the 3rd set of pads when I traded it on the 2012.

View 2 RepliesI bought my 06 Corolla LE last week and just started hearing a nasty squeaking sound whenever I applied the brakes. I took it to the dealer today and 4 hours later he calls me and tells me that he had to readjust my back brakes and lube them up and it should be fine..About a half hour into driving the car around town I start hearing this noise again. Now he's telling me to bring back in the morning to see what the issue is.
My question is besides the brake pads and rotors which were checked by another mechanic that said they were good what the hell could be the issue?
With only 1,800 miles on my 2016 Sonata Limited, the brakes make a high-pitched noise when applied and backing up. I noticed yesterday the noise has also started as I brake for red lights.
