I have a 2009 Hyundai sonata 2.4, 5 speed manual, gls, how to change /replace the alternator in this car, it looks to be in tight qtrs.!, step by step instructions and or diagrams required., and can a bad alternator make the battery go bad /, I replace the battery with a new one and my dash light of the " battery" stays on most of time , now Oreillys tested my alternator in car and they say my alternator is now bad1, can both go bad at same time!, , and also my ESC light comes on as I start driving after I had just started the car, can this be also tied in with the "bad battery/bad alternator"...

I recently purchased a 2006 Sonata with 70k miles on it. The dealership said it had one previous owner, and was in great condition. I should've had it checked out before purchasing. Now that I've driven it a few weeks I've noticed the headlights dimming when I press on the break. My brother checked it out and said my grounds were all okay, but there was oil leaking onto my alternator. He said it should just be the valve cover gasket that needs to be replaced.
What is considered a fair price to replace it? I dont know how detailed he looked into it, but it is on the left side of the engine. I've read that's the cheaper one to replace, will they allow me to replace without replacing the right side? Also, Will that solve the headlight dimming issue?

I have oil in the vicinity of the alternator. What do you think it is leaking from and is it difficult to fix? It is a 2006 Sonata V6 with 105,000 miles on it. Runs great and I never have to add oil. I change it religiously every 5000 miles. I have always had all scheduled maintenance done. The oil buildup is worse right under the pulley in the dead center of the picture. It doesn't leak onto the ground.. just always damp with oil in that area. Also notice the power steering hose that is just outboard and below all the pulleys for the serpentine belt always looks like it has oil on it.

I noticed quite a bit of oil on my alternator recently, and it looks like oil is leaking out of the sides of my engine. Does this mean that my valve cover gasket needs replacing and if so what should a mechanic charge for this i.e. how long should the job take?

I've got a 2010 base with the 4 cylinder. When you make a turn (mostly right, but sometimes left) through puddles the power steering and alternator temporarily go out. I believe it is a belt/power failure as a result of the water being splashed into the area - none-the-less, it's a potentially very dangerous situation.
I did a quick check and it looks like all the plastic is there and in good shape. I do realize there is an engine splash guard on this model and it is in place.
A footnote - the car did take a light hit in the front before I bought it. It was "patched" together and sold. They didn't do a terrible job (as it looks ok), but you can tell "things" aren't perfect.
Since the splash guard is in place - What should I be looking for?

My alternator went out , don't have the cash to pay a mechanic to do it for me. How to go about this the best way??!
Noticed that strange rattling sound upon starting up ?? I have a 2006 Sonata V6 . At first I thought it was normal I listened to other sonatas heard the same thing, but I don't think its normal googled it found some info but no clear answer , any way to fix it?

What difficulties might I run into on switching in the HO alternator. Is it that hard to get the stock alt out/putting the serpentine belt back on once i get the HO alt in?
Any pictures or videos to make this job easier? The stock alt almost looks impossible to get out unless i remove the entire radiator.. Should I just bring it to a shop and have them install it?

How to replace the belt tensioner. It's not putting out enough tension when the engine is cold. So, the belt makes chirping noise for couple of minutes idling when cold with AC on.
I had the AC inspected and everything checks out according to my mechanic.
He believes that the issue is with the tensioner since I had recently had replaced the serpentine belt.

I have a 2009 Elantra (automatic) that already has 52K miles on it. I drive a lot mostly at highway speeds. I know several people who recommend having the timing belt replaced BEFORE the warranty runs out at 60K miles.
The dealership has a 60K inspection where they "inspect" the timing belt (plus a whole lot of "fluff" checks, tire rotation etc) I'd rather just take it in and get it replaced. What should a timing belt replacement cost?

I found some threads about changing the license plate light on a 2009 Hyundai Accent and all of them involved removing the plastic trim inside of the hatch. However, I saw a few people mention that they broke a few plastic clips. I want to prevent breaking any clips.
Also, this ( hyundai-forums.com/184-mc-2006-2011-accent/94825-2009-accent-replacement-bulbs.html ) thread says that the replacement lights for the license plate are 168 or 168LL, but other posters say that they replaced them with white lights. What code are they?

I'm having a sudden turnover issue that appears as though it's the battery, but I'm not too sure now. I left work tonight (no problem), drove to a destination about 15min away, came back out in about the same amount time....Dead!
The headlights, dash, & gauges fluttered dimly on. Weird noises was coming from the radio & A/C. I turned back the key, cut the auto headlight thing off, and the A/C and radio off. Turned the key & slowly the dash came up bright, but still didn't have enough juice to turnover. Soon there afterwards, everything else seemed better, but just not starting.
I got a jump from this guy, drove 20mins home, cut the car off, and guess what?... Dead! What's the deal? Battery, Alternator...?

I putting a bit newer engine in my truck. from what I know there have been few changes in the middle of 1999. Do I need to replace the computers too or are they the same. what about the wiring harness.

I have a 3.3 limited ed 09 sonata that I soo enjoy driving. However, two weeks ago the AC stopped blowing completely. It's a fully automatic unit and no air movement in any position at any temp. The compressor is coming on as I can hear it and driving on interstate I can feel the slightest bit of cold air coming thru. I bought a new resistor that was over a hundred bucks and it did nothing. For about a year now the ESC light would come on. if i turned the car off and restart it would go away sometimes for couple of weeks, sometimes just for a little while.. I was afraid to take to the dealer not knowing what this would cost. A few weeks ago, I could not get it to shift up to reverse or park..
then I removed the little cover and reset the shift interlock and this seemed to take care of it. on that day the ESC light was on constantly and would not go away.. after the shift interlock reset I didn't see the light for several days..
Then christmas eve the light was on again.. and resetting the shift interlock did nothing? But if i held the button down I could shift... When I mentioned to my brother in law, he asked if the brake lights where working? good question, we checked and no they are not? He messed with brake light switch which was stuck.. and the brake lights started working and the shifter now worked also.. so Monday I replaced the brake light switch and life is good...

I get a pop or a clunk from the front drivers side when I brake. It used to happen less often but I took it to the dealer to fix and they lubricated the caliper pins and now it happens frequently. I've read that the Sonata has some issues with the calipers. I would like to repair it and lubing the calipers made it worse.

Ever since I purchased my 2009 Sonata Limited, it has had a rattle in the rear end some place. Hyundai replaced brake pads, calipers, shocks, etc and checked sway bar but rattle still there. It is especially noticeable in below freezing temperatures.

We have a 2009 Sonata with barely 50k miles - always garaged. It has been a great car but recently has come up with a couple of quirks.
I was driving last week and heard a loud "pop" behind me. Really loud..... I pulled over and found that the left rear window was missing!
I took the car to a local auto glass place and they found the missing window down in the door, I really though that it had fallen out and actually went back to the spot on the road where the noise happened and looked for it.
Anyway, the glass shop lifted the window back in place but had little interest in making the power part work again.
Now, I have had power windows fail on other cars before but they always got stuck, I have never had one "disappear". Would this be a safety issue that Hyundai might cover?

2009 Sonata V6. It was working fine from the last 10 months and all of a sudden, from couple of days it not behaving as usual.
It cranks some times and will start and some times it wont even crank just silent. (However all my dash lights, headlights sterio work fine).
But to my surprise, it started very fine this morning. So not sure, what the problem would be.
My car has 57000Kms and its still in warranty, so, if there is some thing wrong with the alternator, starter motor. will the warranty cover for those parts.
