My 2009 Hyundai Sonata's dashboard readings suddenly went "dead" yesterday that is - the fuel gauge read empty, the speedo wasn't registering nor was the tachometer and the led display couldn't be altered? What might be wrong and whether I can do anything to fix it?
View 3 RepliesI have 2006 Pt. Cruiser Touring with 150,000 miles on it. It has been well cared for with oil changes, tire rotations, tune ups, and preventative maintenance done regularly.
My problem is this. Sometimes when I drive the vehicle, all the warning lights on the dash board will light up, and all the gauges go dead. But the car keeps running and does not decelerate or lose power. The lights shut off within 3-6 seconds, with the seat belt lights being the last to go out. I have paid over $600 dollars for 6 hook ups to the computer at the dealer with no codes showing.
I have just replaced the belts, cam & crank sensors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, battery, alternator, hoses, water pump, timing belt, and it still does this. This morning when driving to an appointment, it did this again 3 times within 5 minutes. I had activated the cruise control when it did this. When I turned the cruise control off, it did not do it again. But in the past, this has happened when I was not using the cruise control. And it happens at all speeds, 60, 20, 35, or 40 MPH. What is wrong with my car.
Recently, I have had 3 instances where my car alarm suddenly goes off. All times, my car was parked in my garage, unlocked. The keys were sitting on the table and had not been touched.
The only thing is that I think the battery in my remote is started to get low I think but I don't really see how that would cause this issue.
I have a 2007. So as the title says, my battery is completely dead, and my trunk is locked. I have the master key, but for some reason, it won't unlock the trunk. It will unlock the front door, but not the trunk. The switch on the dash won't release the trunk because the battery is dead, and the seat release is in the locked position, so I can't get in my trunk from inside the cabin either. This is an incredibly inconvenient situation, because I have jumper cables right there inside of my trunk.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 Sonata GLS and it has a starting issue. When you turn the key I have power to everything like dash, radio, lights etc. but it doesn't start. No crank, no clicking, just dead. I have checked the battery cables, battery posts, ground, starter cable. I kind of got the impression from reading other posts that it may be the starter or maybe ignition switch. I have replaced the starter once before but I'm wondering if you all think it's possible to be the ignition switch? If it was the ignition switch would the symptoms I am having be adding up? I guess what I am trying to say is if it was the ignition switch would you still have power to everything like the dash, lights and so on and the car not start or would there be nothing at all (dash lights, radio, headlights) in addition to the car not starting when you turn the key?
View 14 RepliesAll the things radio, CD player and lights on the radio is dead. Cannot find a fuse for the radio. Hyundai Dealer says to bring it in next Tuesday. Says it may have a dead head what ever that means.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2007 Hyundia Sonata. Currently have a 7" after-market head unit, four after-market speakers and a sub that is currently not plugged in. I also put HIDs in the low beams. It has about 73,000 miles on it. I bought it when it had 36,000 about a year and a half ago.
The first time I noticed an issue was about 3-4 months ago. Both of my stock headlights went out at the same time. I checked all fuses, nothing blown. Odd right? I thought there might be something going on with the electric but I was like O.K. i guess i'll get new ones, i could use some brighter ones anyways. So I went with Sylvia SilverstarUltra's. These lasted 2-3 months before one went out. I didn't think at the time that this was connected to the previous problem because only one went out and I drive a LOT with my headlights on during the day and SilverStarUltras have a short life span. So I bought an HID kit off ebay (just the ballast and bulb, not really a 'kit'). I installed them on Jan 28th. Today, Feb. 25, they both went out. NOT COOL!
Electronics : Sometimes as I am driving the electronics in the car "de-surge" if you will. Another words, they seem as though they have less power, the interior lights dim, the fan for the heats slows. This happens only for a second and then returns to normal. It has happened a few time. I don't remember the stereo being effected however.
Sub : The sub on my speaker system. A couple of months or so ago I noticed that my sub on my speaker system had stopped working. It was installed late last summer. I investigated and found no potential short, the ground was secure, and no fuses were blown. I didn't even think this could be related to everything else until today, but it kinda seems like it might be.
I was wondering if maybe I had created a short of some type when installing the stereo system. However nothing in the stereo system seems to be effect besides the sub. Which gets it's power directly from the battery, not the stereo system.
I read on another thread about a older Elantra that had this problem and someone mentioned that it could be the regulator in the alternator going bad and intermittently outputting too much voltage. Although I don't know why that would make the fan and lights in the car slow/dim. I'm currently trying to find someone who can lend me a voltmeter.
How I could locate an electrical problem with my stereo install, or elsewhere in my car?
What is the name or a store url where I could order this part below for the Hyundai Sonata 2008....

Its there with both the a/c on and off, all temp settings. Fan going bad?
I have no owners manual and cannot determine the meaning of this light indicator on my dashboard. It resembles a letter "U" more horseshape with the exclamation point in the middle of the U. How to determine the problem that this light indicates? BTW, I have been driving my car and concerned that continuing will damage.
View 11 Replies2nd battery in 2010 Sonata 4-cyl died on my wife last night. Got a new battery today and put it in. (Couldn't move car even to push as there wasn't enough juice left to get transmission out of Park). Started right up after battery replacement and ran engine at idle for probably a half hour. Engine seemed to run a little funny. Lost RPM's and sounded like it might die a couple of times, but it stayed running. Now the dreaded check engine light is on. I've had a couple of stop-starts since it began, so I'm not sure it's going to go away. Car seems to be running fine now. Is there a connection between the battery going dead (so dead I lost radio presets and trip odometer readings) and something fouling up the check engine system?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 sonata and my alarm light on my dash board is blinking rapidly and then my blinker lights will turn on and stay on for a few seconds then it does everything all over again. My car has never done any of this except a slow blink in the red LED alarm light. I don't want my battery to die! Is there anything wrong with my car or is this normal?

Was driving along today, with music and bass quite loud and the front driver door speaker just simply turned off. All other speakers work fine, including the tweeter on the driver side.
Before I take apart the door panel to check for connections (my main suspect), I'd like to have your opinions on this issue. I already broke the tweeter panel when taking it off to replace my broken side mirror, I'd rather skip taking this off again, with the door panel, if I don't have to. But I assume it will be inevitable to get started!
Today my transmission suddenly disengaged while slowing down from 3rd to 2nd as if i switched to neutral.Car revved freely when i pressed accelerator. Then suddenly after a second it engaged again and shifted normally. Never had this issue before i racked up 1,29,000 KM on my ride.
I can't see it as "slipping" as there was no change in speed and it revved freely. Also I 'm due for fluid change. What can be the issue?
So i have a 2005 Sonata GLS and it has been giving me issues. A week or so ago, the 'check engine' came on so I took it to the shop to have it fix. Problem fix, no more light popping up. Now two days ago, the car all of a sudden started stalling and hesitating while I was driving. I kept pressing the gas and the car will accelerate to 40 before slowing down to 20 and the acceleration will then drop as well. I had a mechanic look at the issue and he said it was the throttle position sensor. He changed the sensor and its still acting up. He said to buy the carburetor cleaner and it worked fine for a hour until we drove it again. The problem is still not fix.
View 3 RepliesMy problem is on wed I was driving my car,when I suddenly lost acceleration power, after pulling over to the side of the road I turned off the car and restarted it. However I still had the same problem with acceleration. After a while of trying to get the car to start I called a tow truck and got it towed to the dealer. When I got there they told me it was likely and issue with with a sensor on the gas pedal and the engine. At the dealership I started the car to show them the problem however the car drove perfectly and no engine light came on.
They told me it was most like what they said over the phone the sensors. However on xmas eve they called me and left a voicemail saying the rear cat had went out and taken out both rear exhaust manifolds and it would coast $3000 to fix. My question is how can all that happen without the checking engine light coming on in the car and the car showing no problems while i was driving it and how did they miss it when I had took the car in two weeks earlier for regular maintenance and to correct a drive belt issue due to it walking after I purchased a new drive belt and pulley.
I have a 06 sonata v6 with 120k. Today while driving the car started to lose power then the lights on the dash board flickered radio went nuts and the car lost all power. What could be causing this? Moved battery a little bit and got power back but then started driving and it did the same thing. I did have the heater on 2. You can feel it lose power while accelerating.

View 3 RepliesI just came back from a vacation. Drove my 2006 HyHi from Houston to Miami and back for the second time this year (last time in August without any problems).
200 miles from the start, CEL came on. Went to the local Autozone and got P0300, 301, 302 and 306 readings.
I had the same readings in
01/2010 (got cleared by Toyota)
11/2010 (changed spark plugs and cleared by Toyota) and now again in 12/2011.
What is going on? The same issue every year around the same time (winter/colder temperatures)
I took to a local mechanic along the hwy 10 (luckily we worked at Toyota for 30 years). He did some scans and told me that everything is OK, suggested to use Fuel Injector cleaner for a few cycles. So I did.
So I cleared the CEL and drove around fine until I got back on highway heading home. As soon I accelerated to 80 mph, the CEL went on and stayed on. Then every time I went to 80mph, it would start flashing and then went steady when I slow down.
I have an 02 S60 T5. Everything on my dash is dead. It on occasion works for a minute in the morning when extremely cold but then as always the ABS light comes on with the red exclamation mark below or above it and the message centre saying brake failure, please stop immediately. Of course no break failure, when it the dash does work all functions work fine. But the most I get out of it is a minute or so. It does not track mph and speed/odometer does not work, message centre etc.
View 5 Replies3 days ago I bought a used 2009 Prius, the car was totally fine until today. Went down to the food mart in a gas station ..went back, and the car wont start. Lights start to flash and then it got dimmer, dashboard light went off but the check engine light.
I thought it was the 12v battery, I jump started it and the car started but with the red triangle light and the check engine light. drove it home switched it off (the warning lights were on all the time back home). tried it to switch on again but nothing happened everything is dead even the door locks.
