I am working on my friends 2008 Sonata with the 3.3 V6. They brought the car to me saying that it was screeching when turning the wheel. So I took a look at it and when you turn the wheel one way it would make a screeching noise and the belt would try to jump off of the tensioner. I assume the tensioner is bad, but now I am wondering if it is a crank pulley problem.
View 8 RepliesI have changed my drivers side axle within a 10,000 mile period twice. I recently had my rack and pinion changed with sway bar links and front shocks. The problem existed before all of this so I know it was not a mechanics/ shop fault. I can hear my axle clunk only once when i'm turning the wheel and it only happens when I am on the brakes at the same time, if i turn with out pressure on the brakes it doesn't make a clunking sound. Every time I replace the axle the sound goes away for a couple of months than proceeds to come back. I can't pin point the problem, maybe its the hub assembly or the axle seal but none of it makes sense in my head.

View 10 RepliesOur '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.
At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.
The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.
I'm getting a very ugly high pitched screeching sound from my belt when the car has been sitting for 3 hours (cold start), or randomly when I turn my steering wheel. Based on that what does it sound like the problem is?

I have a LOUD screeching noise from my front passenger wheel, it happens when I turn left and also when i use my breaks (but not every time). It started yesterday and has got nothing but worse. Literally seems the more i drive the worse it gets. There is no play in my steering wheel but there's always been a VERY MILD vibration in the wheel between 100 - 120 km/h. But then stops.

Whenever a passengers seats the seat-belt light does not blink, but airbag warning on my dashboard is still turned on. I went to the dealer and they told me to replace the cushion for the passenger.

View 5 RepliesI bought a 2009 Sonata V6 this past August. Immediately I had shifting problems. I asked my mechanic and he found the TSB. I took it to Hyundai and they took care of the TSB. The shifting problems stopped, but it is STILL literally JUMPING out of reverse when I'm going into drive. Dealer said they could not reproduce the problem.
I am a Toyota driver, and chose the Sonata based on price. So far, I am not impressed and plan to return to Toyota when this one is paid off. But, in the meantime, I want this car fixed, but the dealer acts like there is nothing wrong. I have warranty for another 25,000 miles....
I have a 2008 Elantra with 59,000 miles. When it is warm out (70 F+), the sterering wheel makes a binding noise (squeeking noise - it is hard to describe) when turning. It doesn't do this all the time and it is much more noticeable when it is warm out. The temps are usually mild. This is a recent problem as I haven't noticed it before.
Should I be concerned about this? I want to get it checked before the 60,000 mile mark in case this is a serious issue such as rack and pinion steering problems.
I just bought a 2008 Sonata GLS 2.4L, 4-cyl., automatic, 74000 miles.
I found that the steering wheel, sometimes the seat, vibrates at idle in "D" and "R". And the vibration reduces a lot in "N".
Is this common for this model? If it's not common, how to repair this problem?
Ok in the last couple weeks I noticed when I am going left in a curve a grinding screeching sound from what sounds like my left front. It only does it when I am in a curve going left. It wont do it going right or just even turning a corner left just a slight turn.
View 2 RepliesOut of nowhere began the horrendous screeching wind noise after closing my sunroof during this morning's commute. The sunroof had been dead-quiet all the years I've owned the car. This was not a gradual event, but quite sudden, and occurred after the third closure within 20 minutes. I cycled the sunroof open and closed several times, but to no avail. After arriving at work, I inspected the channels for debris, the rubber seal for failure, and the general appearance and alignment of the glass to the opening. Everything appeared normal. The only thing that alleviated the noise was slightly opening the driver side window, but this in not an acceptable solution.
View 2 RepliesWe recently purchased our 17 year old son a 97 celica, Problem, when he goes out in the morning to start it, it sounds like a is belt squealing really really bad. We changed the tensioner and it stopped for about a week and then returned. We sprayed the belt with belt dressing to determine which belt it was, one at a time, it was the one that goes to the alternator, so we put a new belt on it, the sound stopped this time for a few days and returned.
This happens whether it is wet or dry, but seems to be worse when dry. The sound lasts for a few minutes and usually goes away. I thought it sounded (the actual sound) like power steering. The sound does get worse when we turn the steering wheel, then when the steering wheel is straightened it goes away. My son said now it periodically will do it will drive for no apparent reason and go away.
I own a 2008 Hyundai Elantra SLX manual which has made about 30000 km. I had no trouble with my car until recently. I hear a squeaking/screeching noise from the engine when it is on and the noise disappears when the clutch is touched or slightly pressed. The noise level goes up when the car is in motion and it increases with the speed. My mechanic thinks the noise is due to some kind metal-metal contact without any lubrication.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 Accent Hatchback with 130k+ miles. I got a pretty good deal on it from a fellow who maintained pretty good service and had installed an aftermarket air intake (well, he removed the stock one and put a small, roughly 4" diameter, filter that is open to engine compartment) and all looked pretty good.
At the first fueling, I noticed issue - I had to rev motor for about 30-45 seconds to get it to stay started. Figuring it was an evap issue, I replaced purge valve and gas cap (cap was obviously loose). This did not correct the problem. I did not worry about it to much because with that exception, the car drove wonderfully back and forth to work, etc.....until recently.
Car started "jumping" and being sluggish. Codes came back as random misfire. Plugs and wires are only a few months old. I wondered if it had something to do with fuel so I ordered filter and pump (figured i would replace both since I was going to be pulling top off tank anyways) - this is going to be my project for the day.
Here is the kicker though : I noticed in the past day or so that car has been okay on my short commute to work in the morning and back home in evening. When I went to store midday and was parked on HOT pavement, I had issues right away. Car is very temperamental as the temperature increases. My wife also noted that last night while driving about 15 minutes away that the engine wall was hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch of her bare foot and issues were abundant.
Once I get to speed in 5th gear, I seem to be okay, no issues (yet). It is primarily during acceleration and mostly during low RPM (low for this car anyways which seems to run best at 2500+).
Everything might be a slight exaggeration. But fuse 14 covers Backup lamp and day time running lights relay coil, A/C Pressure Switch, Redundant Speed Control, Heated PCV (5.4L), Trailer Tow back-up lamps, ABS, Reverse park aid, EC Mirror.
This is a 2006. 4.6L V8, SCREW. I don't have reverse park aid. When the fuse blows there is a loud screeching noise from under the hood. Can't identify it because the fuse wont go while I am sitting idling in the driveway. The parking break i9ndicator comes on, the ABS indicator comes on, Cruise control goes away and the A/C quits cooling but still blows. I assume EC Mirror means Electronic Compass Mirror. So I need to figure out where the short is.
I'm having issues with very loud screeching noises on my 08 awd. Sounds like a garbage truck. Lexus said its $625 to replace brake pads and rotors to stop the noise. I'm not really a fan of DIY so is that a fair price for the parts and labor or should I bring it somewhere else?

View 2 Replies2002 Isuzu Axiom screeches when turned on. If AC on, AC works fine but car screeches almost all the time. Can hear me coming a mile away. If AC is off, car stops screeching once running a moment. My mechanic said more torque on serpentine belt when AC on so he changed serpentine belt a few months ago and currently belt appears to be moving fine. He says compressor operates fine. Started about 6 months ago right after new transmission put in at dealership under Isuzu warranty. Mechanic stumped and waiting for something to break.
