My 2007 Hyundai Sonata has a knocking sound when I put my foot on the brakes. It has 82,000 miles. It still has the 100,000 mile warranty. The brake shoes was replaced last year. Does it need new shocks?
View 2 RepliesI own a 07 Hyundai Sonata Limited with 31000 miles. It is 20 degrees today. When I start the car up there is this knocking sound from the engine. Once the car warms up the knocking sound only happens when the car is in drive or reverse. When the car is in park or neutral it is fairly quiet. The sounds is still there but not as loud as in drive or reverse. I have done the routine synthetic blend oil changes between 3500-4500 miles.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 Sonata - LOVE this car. Lots of miles on it - 180,000 well cared for and routine maintenance done. I have a knocking sound from the motor AFTER it warms up.. Drives wonderful starts perfect. Mileage good as always.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2009 Sonata Limited (4 cyl), and since the beginning of the summer, I have had a knocking/creaking type sound coming from both the front AND back of the car, which feels like is coming from underneath. I can feel it in the floor when it gets really hot, and therefore really bad. I hear it almost exclusively while accelerating or coming to a complete stop. When it gets really hot out, I can hear it very slightly while driving at slower speeds, but that's about it. Has no correlation to making turns, as would be the case with a tie rod.
I find it extremely strange that this is happening only in the heat. When it's cooler out, say below 80-85 degrees, there is no sound whatsoever. The car runs phenomenally otherwise, very quiet. Based on some stuff I've read, it seems like a suspension issue is a possibility? I live in a neighborhood with extremely poor roads, and actually live on a dirt road.
I have a 2007 sonata 2.4L with 93k miles that has a knocking sounds coming from the bottom of the engine. It seems that it is a bad rod bearing and was caused by low oil levels. I did not know that the oil was that low (3 quarts low) It started about a week ago. I know I'm gonna have to put it on jack stands and drop the oil pan.

2005(its NF model) Sonata 2.4 petrol manual. 75000 miles. On cold start makes knocking sound( sound like Diesel). After coupe of minutes when warms up the knocking sound gone.
Also when i start driving( still on cold engine) i hear that sound only when i let go from gas pedal and only in range of 1800-1500 rpm. When i accelerate i don't hear that knocking sound.
I think is not belt tensioner because sound is much longer than couple of sec.
I was driving this morning after doing a brake job (nothing to do with the problem, just anger coming out) made it about 10 kms and noticed when i took my foot off the accelerator, the heater fan powered down a bit, and back up when I gave it gas...noticed a knocking sound from the engine...pulled into a gas station and put it in park. After a hard time idling, it cut out. I started it again and the idle was not good at all. kept cutting out. Got it going and made it home with the same sort of power issue. Tried to start it a couple times and same issue with the idle. Sputtering quite a bit and noticed quite a bit of exhaust coming out. When I backed it out of the garage, I noticed a small puddle of oil.
View 15 Replies2006 Sonata LX. It's only on a cold start up and lasts for about 30-45 seconds tops..and then it goes away. Car has 74k on it. Treated well. Only use synthetic oil and no check engine lights. Last oil change I put 5w 30 in it. I know it says to use 5w 20. Could this be the problem?
View 17 RepliesI recently changed my ATF. I refilled with Hyundai SP-III like a good little boy. The ATF fluid level is correct. It's right in the "Hot" range when the car is idling at operating temp.
Now, when I back out of my driveway when the vehicle is totally cold, then put in Drive, I hear a slight knocking sound after I get about 50 feet away. It's a single knock, not very loud, but discernible. If I drive even 1/2 mile and try again (i.e. back up a bit, then put it back in Drive), I can't reproduce it. It's only when the car is first backed out and driven away.
I have around 15K left on the warranty. I'd feel silly bringing it to the dealer for this, unless someone knew of an issue this might be a symptom of.
For the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
2006 Sonata 2.4 GLS. My car has done 60000 miles and has developed a creaking/knocking (metal on metal clunk) sound at the left rear. it is only noticeable at low speeds when accelerating and decelerating in stop start traffic.
It is not the shock as I have removed the shock and driven the car and the noise is still there, I have also looked at all the bushes and nothing is obvious. I have also checked tightness of all bolts/nuts.
Sonata 2007 3.3L V6 ... I have nearly 70K on my Hyundai, and I am the original owner. Everything was fine until 24 hours ago until I got a knocking noise. I stopped, shut off the engine, and had it towed.
The mechanic says that based on the symptoms (knocking, some white smoke from exhaust) that it is powertrain warranty related, and I should be covered.
I just replaced rotors and pads on my 2007 Sonata. I got top of the line premium rotors and ceramic pads from Napa. Cleaned the oil off the rotors and gave them a light sanding before installing, made sure that the caliper bolts moved freely and the caliper pistons were not seized and also used new hardware kit (springs?) that came with the pads.
Everything seems to be ok, except for a clicking sound that occurs on hard breaking as the car is coming to a stop. I think its caused by the pads moving within its mounts (I did notice it was very easy to slide these pads into the mountings, more so than in previous pad replacements).
Reading from other posts I think this is still safe, but the clicking does bother me, should I use pad adhesive to stick the pads to the caliper?
I am getting a ticking sound when i am slowing down (applying my brakes) at say 35/30mph. The sound stops when I stop. This problem starts after my car warms up; doesn't do it when I first start up.
I've taken the car to 2 Hyundai dealerships and a certified mechanic and the problem continues. I first noticed this about a month ago.
So far no one seems to be able to find the problem. The mechanic did try by replacing the front brake pads. He said something about a "shims piece " and thought if we replace the front pads that would take care of the problem. The rear brakes or ok.
I'm still having the problem and I wonder if it's the rear brakes after all. I don't know what I can try now. Someone suggested going to Brake Check. I have about 1000 miles left on the original warranty.
I noticed yesterday a sound, like a grinding sound, *sometimes* as I apply the brakes to stop. I'm at 68k. The noise only happens when the brakes are applied so I suspect there is an issue with my brakes again.
Some BACKGROUND info: At around 60k (or 8 months ago roughly), the front pads were replaced after the brakes were squealing and a pulsating brake pedal when stopping. The pads were replaced by a dealer. In addition, both front/rear rotors were turned at the same time. Rear pads had 40% at the time and were not replaced.
Some weeks later the pulsation came back and I went back again and they machined them again. For this current issue I was thinking about taking the car to someplace local (not a dealer) and getting a free brake evaluation of what is going on.
I'm also concerned that all this machining the dealer did to eliminate the pulsation may have decreased the life of the rotors and perhaps they need replacement now.
I have this clicking sound from the gear of my car every time i step on the brakes, is it normal or do i have something to worry about...

Its summer out here in CO and my car typically has the the thermostat on cold, but the AC is off, Air on fresh air (default with AC off), windows rolled down. After driving the car for ~ 5-10 minutes, the vents for the driver and passenger's feet blow out hot air. It gets just a little difficult to breathe and I am forced to turn the AC on. The AC works fine, no issues.
I am at 43k miles and wanted to run this by the forum before heading to the dealer.
I have a 2007 Hyundai sonata and I'm having a strange problem with my car. It doesn't happen alot but whenever I make certain turns the entire front end grinds and stops moving. It usually happens after being parked at an angle then pulling out.

Whenever I am making a right turn (with the breaks applied), I hear a knocking or "popping" sound from the driver's side front end. It's not a single "pop", but multiple "pop"..."pop"..."pop". The noise does not occur when making a right turn without the breaks applied, not does it happen when making left turns. Also, during a right turn, if I release the breaks, the sound will immediately stop. The car only has 64k KM (about 40k miles).
