I have a front end noise when I go over a speed bump or hit a pot hole. It is kind of a crunching nise like something needs grease.
The Hyundai dealer charged me $54 to diagnose the problem and told me I needed both upper control arms replaced to the tune. They did force some grease in the bushings.
The car only has 63000 miles.
My 2010 SF has 36000 km and I've noticed a "crunching" type sound every time I go over a steep ramp or a speed bump. The sound comes from the rear and never happens on smooth road. I took the car in for service last week and the dealership has ordered two rear replacement shocks -- they say it's premature failure.
View 16 RepliesSo recently my car has been making almost a crunching noise in the front end of my car usually pulling out of the driveway or hitting any type of bump. But it doesn't seem to always happen. It's a louder crunch when it's colder out. It almost sounds like a rusty door being closed/opened rather then a crunch. My car has just about 77k on it and this is the only issue I have with it.
View 16 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.
View 18 RepliesFor the past year I've had the front end squeaks and crunching from my 06 Sonata LX with 97k miles. It started with just going over bumps, then progressed to basically any movement of the body up and down. It's worse in the cold, but an issue all year.
I just did shocks and struts all around, with the mounts. Didn't affect the sounds at all. At 97k, the original shocks/struts were woefully dead. At least the car rides 10x better now.
Yesterday I changed out the sway bar end links with Moog K80949's. It does sound like some of the "crunching" is gone, and now we're back to just squeaking. I think even some of the constant squeaking over fairly normal roads is gone.
So, what's up next? The FSM suggest the lower control arm, which I'd prefer not to do. Sway bar bushings could be an option, but they looked kind of like a PITA to get to.
Started out clunk sound only if going over speed bump, or bumpy road. Now more often with slightest road bumps.
View 11 Replies101,400 miles on car. Started noticing about 2 weeks ago, at idle, and as pickup up speed, a whining noise coming from the engine bay. It has gotten a little worse, so I started trouble shooting.
Basically, at idle, its somewhat annoying, but as you hit 20-30mph it can be more annoying if the radio is off or at low level. If Im sitting there in park, and its whining away, all it takes is me cutting the A/C knob to OFF, and then quiet as a mouse.
So, other than the compressor going bad, I can't see anything else related? I always hate when AC problems show up, they are never cheap....
How do I diagnose if I have an upper control arm problem?? hmr 1979 did a great job of reporting in great detail with pics, on how to replace a control arm.
My car is making creaky, creaky, sounds when I hit a bump on the passenger front corner. I have been thinking that the "top hat" mount to the strut was bad, but now hmr 1979 has me thinking that my upper control arm has a bad bushing. My front struts are originals with 91K on the odo. However, the struts still seem to perform well. Is there any sure fire way to learn if I have a bad bushing on the upper control arm??
So, I was getting this thumping noise in the front end (predominately on the driver's side) whenever I went over bumps. The car was at the dealership for something else and I asked them to check it out. With 145k miles I thought that it was the struts, but they said the struts were fine. They said the Upper control arms needed to be replaced along with the stabilizer bar links and the lower ball joint on the passenger side. Ok. Not a problem. I got the parts from Rock Auto. I replaced all the parts this past weekend and I'm still getting the thumping.
So, other than the lower control arms the only other two parts I can see that might cause that noise is either the outer tie rod ends or the struts. Anyone think it would be the tie rod ends over the struts? I can get a set of tie rod ends for $30 from Rock Auto. The struts are more expensive (I get the quick change struts with the coil and everything.)
I took the car into the dealership to check an odd noise that comes from the front of the car every time I pass over speed bump or road holes.
They say I have to replace the steering rack. Can it be fixed or have to be changed anyway?
Looking for a suspension diagram that can be shared for this model? I need to fix the squeaking noise from front passenger side and would like to have an overview pic of the suspension system.
View 6 RepliesI'm hearing a crunching/rattle sound from the front right end of my 2007 B6 Wagon, 3.6L, Auto, Sport Pkg, FWD w/ 45k miles. I'll try to characterize what I'm hearing and when I hear it...
In the morning, when I've driven less than 2-3 miles and I go over a speed bump (i creep over the bumps) I hear what sounds to be like an un-oiled/worn out spring like sound coming from the front right side of the car. I don't think I hear any other sort of noise at all while driving (or if I do, it's very faint and barely noticeable).
After I've driven 25 miles or so at highway speeds (at the end of my daily commute), when I'm around 25 mph (independent of accelerating / decelerating / applying brakes) I hear what sounds to be a metal on plastic-like loose wobbling rattle (great description, right??) coming from the front right end. It gets pretty loud. However, if I go over a speed bump after having driven a good distance...guess what...no "worn out spring sound", just the rattle @ 25mph.
The rattle sound definitely 'peaks' in loudness at 25mph. If I listen carefully, I can hear it at other speeds, but it is less noticeable. I don't feel like I hear it at all at 40+ mph. I'm pretty sure the rattle is rotationally dependent (e.g. the faster wheel turn, the higher frequency of the rattle).
My tires are worn pretty unevenly, so there is a very annoying wobble/hum at all speeds, but I don't think it has to do with the tires. So to recap, it sounds like a rusty spring when going over a speed bump when the car is 'cold'. After driving a long time, no rusty-spring sound going over speed bumps, but I hear a pretty significant rattle around 25mph.
M/T 2010 Sonata. I'm just out of warranty at 102,000 mi. No issues before with clutch. I noticed a clicking or crunching sound when pushing the clutch pedal down. I took a gander and noticed the pedal was traveling farther than it used to because there were indentations in the carpet. So this happens for about 3 days. Then I start the car and cant get it into gear. If I shut it off, it easily goes into gear and I can drive. Usually it is ok after that point but is getting worse. Mechanic briefly tried to bleed it but the pedal stayed on the floor. He was able to get it to its original problem but said if he replaces the master & slave cyl then might as well do a new clutch. Because I had no slippage, no pedal issues or anything prior to clicking. Is 102k miles and 6 years usual time for these components to fail?
View 2 RepliesMy front end has given out. Getting a crunching sound that sounds like it is coming from the tire/wheel well area. With an 06 which has only 39,000 miles and an extended warranty until 2016 the Dealer just replaced the Strut Mounts? Sounded good, did no good. I'm going back soon, but shouldn't they have replaced the shocks and springs too? It sounds like the tires are rubbing while going over bumps, with a tearing crunch. I have known every noise in my Sonata since it came off the boat from Alabama and the car only got better over time. Since this noise seemed to happen on both sides all at once, what can it be? I did hear some noises V33 had posted, but it didn't sound the same as this screeching crunching new noise?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that squeaks when I turn left while in motion. It squeaks regardless of the degree of the turn but is more noticeable at slower speeds. The squeak isn't a screech so I don't think it's a belt. it isn't a grinding noise either. More like a "squeak, squeak, squeak." Seems to squeak with the rotation of the tire.
View 6 RepliesThe front suspension on my 07 Accent SE has been crunching when I drive over rough patches in the road. The car is at just over 60,000 miles, and I don't drive aggressively. I'm planning on replacing the front struts, but I'm not sure which parts to swap out. I've purchased some Monroe struts, but do I need to replace the strut mounts as well? And are there any other parts I should change while I'm in there?
View 2 RepliesJust put on eibachs and car is randomly making a grinding noise when slowly accelerating or braking.. Also noticing a fairly loud clicking noise when going in reverse. The noise isn't consistent and seems to happen more right after startup. I haven't gotten the alignment done yet and was wondering if this could be the problem. Will try and post a video soon.

1)i had heard some creaking noise when going over speed bump
2)some rattling/ creaking noise from the front dash.
3)check engine light appeared
4)gas cap warning light appeared intermittantly.
VW dealer done the following jobs.
1)2328 Verified Creaking noise from both from lwer control arm bushings As per TB 40 08 01 noise coming from both front bushings.
40205653 Wishbone mounting replace.
40172003 Lower wishbone remove + reintall

6 N-103-320-02 Nut
2 N-101-410-03 Bolt
4 N-107-063-01 Screw
2) 2327 Found noise coming from trim piece surrounding radio
68221900 instrument panel trim remove + reinstall.Installed anti rattle tape to trim backing and mounting surface.

2324 possible loose gas cap 01320021=0.2 Performed DTC Readout
P0456 EVAP System very small leak detected. Checked fuel tank sealing several times in basic settings 71. Passes.
Inspected gas cap and adjacent seal. OK. Raised Vehicle inspected fule tank and lines. OK. Operating to specification at this time. Erased DTC's.
With all that done above, I got back my car and i am yet to see if there's any noise coming from the radio rattling and the suspension creak. What the heck did they do to my car on the item #3 #4? What is Erased DTC's and TB 40 08 01?
I have steed77's old BMP R32 which he heavily modified.
My problem I just noticed today in FL, 61 degrees out, is when I go over speed bumps my fronts make the very wet shock compression sound of KW v3's and then i hit my rears, going about 5mph and I hear a squeak sound. Now this sound is a problem sound, it sounds like somethings getting torqued or a rubber strut is moving or something, I can't really describe it. I hope it's not the shock gone bad!
A grinding/crunching noise recently started happening to my 2001 vw vr6 12v.seems to be coming from the front of the car but only when i accelerate. I hear it through all the gears and am a little concerned as winter is approaching.
View 1 RepliesI have been experiencing a slight issue with my 07 Sonata V6 lately. When I am accelerating, most commonly when already at speed around 80 to 90 km/h, I would hear this 2-3 ticks / clicks when I press lightly or moderately on the accelerator pedal. The car would accelerate fine without any further noises. When I release the pedal, the car slows down a bit, and I press on the pedal again, then the same sound re-appears.
