06 Silverado, service brakes message comes on when hitting the brakes hard. What causes this? Is it possible fluid is low or faulty sensor in master cylinder?
View 1 RepliesFor the last 3 months I've been bringing in my vehicle in and out of the VW dealership trying to find out why once in a while when I turn off my my vehicle the accessory part turns back on by its self and error message displaying "Error: Brakes service now!" In the middle of the cluster & then the car turns off completely. The first time I brought it to the VW dealership they called corporate and they said to change the cluster so they did. Two days after I pick up my car the error message came back on. Took it for the 2nd time and they said that it was the gateway .
And one day later after picking up my car the error message came back on again. I'm getting tired bringing in my Golf R and not fixing this issue. What it could be? Just an FYI, It is a push start. Here's a quick video link so you can see what I'm talking about [URL] ....
About a month ago my Lumina (1999 LTZ 3.8L 85,000 miles) started jerking a little bit while slowing down almost like I was hitting the brake too hard and after 2 days of it the car would shut off while braking toward a stop sign or while idling and would to this without the jerk, no warning. I replaced the throttle position sensor hoping this would fix the problem, it did nothing. Soon after this the engine would jerk really bad while driving and shut off even during acceleration, the service engine soon light came on during this time. I took it to a local mechanic who said the error code was for a faulty mass air flow sensor, so that was replaced. This made things a lot better, no more dying or jerking while driving but there was a new problem.
When starting the engine cold no issues, when starting the engine warm after sitting 20-30 minutes it would shake and the RPMs would fluctuate by 300-400, but once I put it in drive and started going it would drive smooth. The service engine light came back on so I brought it back to the mechanic. This time they said the fuel pump wasn't pumping enough fuel (low pressure?) and it needed to be replaced so I did that but it created a new problem. When I would start the car cold the RPMs would jump way up to 2000 then down to 0 or it would jump to 2000 then down to 500 then up to 1500 then down and so on until I put it in drive.
So I brought it back again and they replaced a gasket around the fuel pump, put a new idle control sensor (i think?) and told me to turn the key to on, listen for the pump to stop pumping fuel and then start the car, I have never had to do that before all these problems. This worked fine for about 2 weeks and now I am back to the car shaking while starting it warm like it did before the new fuel pump and the service engine light just came back on. But again, once I start driving it runs nice and smooth like there are no problems.
My 02 F250 has me baffled. For a while the truck would pull to the right when hitting the brakes and occasionally the brake would get hot. To try and remedy this I put a new caliper and hose on the right front corner a new hose on the left front side. The truck still pulled right and the pedal got spongy even after bleeding the brakes 3 times. I got to checking the rest of the brakes and found a seized slide pin on the left rear. Got that fixed and still pulling right with a soft pedal. I've checked all of the sliders and none are seized. I am lost and I cant stand the soft pedal!
View 4 RepliesI purchased the vapor canister vent valve and purge valve as the service engine light has been on and this are the contributors. I want to know the location of these and how to access. It appears that they may be by the fuel tank and I don't know if I need to lift the box or something to access them. It is the 5.3L V8.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 1500 Silverado z71 that has started producing a squalling noise in the front pass side when hitting decent bumps during hunting season. This noise can also be reproduced when bouncing the pass front side. It has 99,000 miles. I'm assuming this is the front pass. shock. The truck came with Black and Red shocks. What brand is this? Also, from what I have read Blistens are most peoples replacement choice. I see they make a HD (4600) model and a (5100) model. My ride is stock height. If this is the problem and what brand/model to replace with? Doesn't Z71's have gas shocks and would this influence which brand to use?
View 3 RepliesThis morning when I went to start my car i got a Service Now message. Once the car was started it went off and didn't come back on. I have no warning lights present on the dash what so ever. I've never seen this before.
What does it mean? I have an 04 W12 with 60,120 miles. BTW I've had all service work done for the 60,000 service. Car is beyond up to date with it's service.
I had my first service done away from the Volvo dealership. 2004 S60 AWD ... How to reset the service required message. (Canadian model).
The sales rep is trying to find this out for me as well. He knows it involves the pressing of the trip computer button and while holding in another button.
I've had a "need service soon" message and amber triangle symbol for a couple of weeks and cleared all of the reminders for service. The oil change isn't for another 5k. Now the message is "need service" with the same symbol. This is a 2015 LS with 5k on the odo. I called the dealer and was told that only they can turn the light off. This 5K service is free and includes everything that I do at least every month and...resetting the maintenance light! I doubt that this service is required to maintain the warranty so I would like to turn the light off. Is this possible without going to the dealer? Oh, by the way they also check the driver's floor mat.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 1500 with the 5.3V8 motor (ext. cab sb 4x4 LT). I was my dads and had the service engine light on for a long time for the P0446 code. I replaced the vent valve and the purge valve and light keeps coming back on. Usually can go for a day or so and then it comes back on and I get the same P0446 code.
View 3 RepliesDriving while in 4x4 HI up a hill the truck started to slip. I stopped, shifted to neutral, and engaged 4x4 Low. I shifted back to drive and started moving up the hill. The engine started to lose power and the "Service Engine Soon" light began to blink. I put the truck in park. As I let it run a little bit, the engine started to shake as if something was very imbalanced. I went to check under the hood, and confirmed that it was shaking quite noticeably. There was no grinding or clattering of any kind though.
I turned the truck off for a bit, and then restarted. There was no light or shaking upon starting up; but as soon as I put it in gear and started driving I could tell it was losing power, the light came back on, and the shaking ensued. This occurred in 2wd, and both 4wd lo and hi. I parked it at a neighbors place and there it sits for now.
I plan to try and get the codes read. My other vehicles can't make it through the snow we have right now, but it is suppose to get warm later today and might melt enough for me to get one out. I also live out in the country, so the nearest auto parts place is about 20 miles. Same with a dealership service shop. I'm hoping I can buy and return a code reader from an auto parts store to assess if this is something I can diagnose myself or not.
It is the 6.0l gas engine with the 4sp automatic transmission. The truck also has about 107,000 miles.
I have a 1990 4x4 ford Ranger, the little truck was purchased in early 2008 as a work truck but has ended up becoming my main vehicle, it has been a good truck for the most part but know I am having some brake issues, well have been having for some time but they seem to come and go. Usually it happens when I have to hit the brakes hard, the rear brakes lock up, I replaced the master cylinder months ago and thought that fixed it, then a month later it happened again. The last time it happened was friday, the time before that was in march 09'.
I have searched this online and found numerous try this but the original poster never comes back to say if the problem is fixed or what fixed it. My ABS light DOES NOT come on when this happens, it does function properly, it illuminates when the key is turned on then goes off. My parking brake no longer works either but I think that is from me "driving thru" the locked up rear brakes. I plan on replacign both drums and shoes within the next week but would like an option to repair the locking up issue.

I have read some other forms and they are all over the place on what to do or where to start. what they are saying is true --- the car acts sluggish and seemed like it switched into 4wd. Where to start?? a sensor ?? some said the encoder motor?? even the 4wd on the dash being replaced??

After 2 days of driving a message displays " Service c due in 14 days" .I called local Benz dealer and they said the oil will need changing. The place I bought the car from assured me they had changed the oil prior to putting it up for sale. How do you reset this message on the car. I have looked through the owner manual and not found anything about this.
