Silverado :: Cannot Get Tailgate Down

Apr 23, 2014

I have a 00 Silverado 1500 Z71 249,000 miles. I can't get my tailgate down. When I pull the handle I can hear it click but it only moves a fraction and will not open. I don't think the latches are releasing all the way. How to fix this?

Touareg :: Tailgate Won't Open All The Way Up

Well the tailgate of my Touareg doesn't open all the way up. I took my car to College Park VW and they did not even fix the tailgate, saying that its originally like that... So they brought out another Touareg and opened the tailgate...it opened all the way...and they still tried to find fault with our car. Why the tailgate doesn't open up all the way?

Touareg :: How To Keep The Tailgate From Auto Locking

I have set the system up in the center info display (by checking the tailgate) to unlock the tailgate (and all doors) with the key remote. Once the tailgate is unlocked and opened you can't close it without it relocking, forcing you to hit the key again or opening the drivers door and activating the remote there. I know this issue seems minor, but its kind of a hassle when you have gear, groceries and a toddler...

Prius (Gen 3) :: Tailgate Panel Always Loose And Rattling

I recently brought my 2011 in for its final service with a laundry list of issues, one of which was the tailgate panel that was always loose and rattling. Of course the dealer told me there was no problem, and it's always been difficult to isolate the source of rattles on this car since the entire car is a symphony of rattling plastic.

I looked into the tailgate panel more closely to find that the two plastic grab handles built into the tailgate panel were loose. I pulled the panel off to discover the root for the problem. The two plastic grab handles are sonically welded (melted) to the tailgate panel, (five welds per handle). Three of the five welds on each handle were fractured, (six out of ten welds had failed).

I took the panel back to the dealership and showed it to the service manager who miraculously concluded that the panel was defective, but it wasn't like that when they looked at it the day before.

Passat (B6) :: Power Tailgate Height Adjustment?

So I can successfully set the height at which the tailgate should stop, and in fact, the "power" function seems to stop there. But once the motors stop doing their thing, it just keeps slowly creeping up, as though the gas pressure in the struts is too strong for the tailgate weight. It's brand new, so this wouldn't be surprising. But is that the way it's supposed to work? If so, what's the point of setting a height at all? In my case, I want it top stop just a couple inches before hitting my garage door.

Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Tailgate Automatically Closing

We purchased our 2016 Santa Fe Sport about a year ago and we've always had issues with our automatic tailgate. When we open the tailgate with either the tailgate button itself, the key fob or standing behind the back of the car while it is locked with the 3 beeps; once the tailgate reaches the top, it will start descending back to close right away. It happens more often than it not happening and it's absolutely annoying. I can stop it quickly by hitting the button on the underside of the tailgate and then push it back to the top.

Phaeton :: Tailgate And Reversing Lights Not Working?

Took my phaeton in for routine health check. Came out with reversing lights not working. Next thing boot stops half way when opening and then stops working all together and wont register as closed on the warning system. Taken it to 2 vw dealers for investigation and so far still dont know whats wrong! They now want it for several days at great expense to investigate further. Have been in touch with vw uk who are monitoring the situation. Seems the less competent the technicians are the more it is going to cost to sort it out. Its not as simple as fuses and bulbs. Is there anywhere I could take it to like an auto electrical specialist or is there a phaeton technician out there who recognises the problem.

Passat (B5) :: Remove Inside Tailgate Panel?

I have to repair or replace my rear window wiper/washer unit.

How do I remove the trim inside the lift gate? I saw two screws and removed them, but it's still being held in place. Is it near the indented handes? There seems to be little square plastic screw covers in there. I couldn't remove them (I was on the road) and didn't want to hack them if they weren't.

Caravan/Voyager :: 1998 Dodge - Putting A New Tailgate On Car

I'm about to put a new tailgate on a 98 Dodge Caravan. I got hit in the back and I bought a new back door at the junk yard. It looks pretty easy, but I thought I would touch base here and there are a couple of potentially tricky parts...

Does that wire bundle have a block somewhere that you can plug, or am I going to be splicing them one by one? (I don't have power locks. I have windshield wiper, back door inside light, license plate light, heat wires in the glass.) The other tricky part..changing the lock.

I think that's all.. the bolts and star screws look pretty straightforward. I got it used with 48k miles a couple years ago and I only have 75k now. It was a government car.

Golf IV R32 :: Boot / Tailgate Not Opening With Central Locking

I'm having some problems with my tailgate (boot) handle. At the moment the boot 'intermittently' works with the central locking. If it doesn't unlock then I have to use the keyfob to open/close a few times before the handle opens the boot. Fortunately it works every time with the key. I must stress that I've never used the key in the boot. The boot lock is set to work with the opening/closing of the central locking. So this problem is NOT user error.

I have posted some pictures of the problem I've now seen with the mechanism. Ok so in the above picture, you can see that I've put a black arrow pointing at the 'latch' in it's correct position.

When you operate the central locking via the keyfob (or inside the car), it pushes the electrical popper (to the left) which rotates the mechanism CLOCKWISE, and in doing so, it pushes the LATCH across so that it can connect with the boot handle

In the following picture, you can see how the 'LATCH' isn't moving across to the position in the first pic. This is why my boot can't open with the central locking.

I must make clear that the electric popper is doing the job as it should. There is nothing wrong with it's function. The problem is the latch is not rotating (clockwise) into it's correct position. It can be moved by hand easily.

The problem could be solved by attaching a spring to the latch, so it pulls downwards. But I cannot understand why or what has stopped it from working as it should. The latch moves fine if you use the key in the lock, so at the moment, the only way to make it open is either open/close the central locking 10times, or use the car key.......
