I have a 2001 1500 with the 5.3V8 motor (ext. cab sb 4x4 LT). I was my dads and had the service engine light on for a long time for the P0446 code. I replaced the vent valve and the purge valve and light keeps coming back on. Usually can go for a day or so and then it comes back on and I get the same P0446 code.

View 10 RepliesI purchased the vapor canister vent valve and purge valve as the service engine light has been on and this are the contributors. I want to know the location of these and how to access. It appears that they may be by the fuel tank and I don't know if I need to lift the box or something to access them. It is the 5.3L V8.

My check engine light came on, and I went to autozone to get the code read. The code was P0446, "a malfunction in the electrical circuit for the vent control in the evap emission control system." I was wondering if this could be a simple fix...would cleaning the EGR valve do anything to get rid of this? Maybe this could work, but before the light came on, the amigo was taking awhile to start up (usually 4 cranks, with me pressing on the gas). And oh yeah, the check engine light didn't pop up until after I let the car sit for 12 days, while I was on vacation.
I also have a side problem...when I turned on my car for the first time after my vacation, besides the check engine light popping up for the first time, my ABS light also came on. I've tried the whole turning off, turning on the car and driving real slow process, but the light remains on. It just seems really interesting that both lights came on right after my car was sitting for awhile.
I'm thinking about taking the amigo to the dealership to get it checked out.
2001 Camry 4 cylinder. Check engine light came on yesterday. Advance Auto pulled out the code P0446 for the evap. emissions system vent circuit.
The car has no symptoms other than this and is current on all maintenance, but obviously it is a 10-year old car and so it goes.
I own a 2007 hyundai accent currently around 123,000 KM's I've got my check engine light on and it has been on for a few weeks now. The Code its giving me for it is P0446, ( Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit) Is what it is saying. I also notice when I put fuel in my car it does not want to start unless i turn the key over a few times or pump the gas pedal..? What to replace for this code?
View 9 RepliesDriving while in 4x4 HI up a hill the truck started to slip. I stopped, shifted to neutral, and engaged 4x4 Low. I shifted back to drive and started moving up the hill. The engine started to lose power and the "Service Engine Soon" light began to blink. I put the truck in park. As I let it run a little bit, the engine started to shake as if something was very imbalanced. I went to check under the hood, and confirmed that it was shaking quite noticeably. There was no grinding or clattering of any kind though.
I turned the truck off for a bit, and then restarted. There was no light or shaking upon starting up; but as soon as I put it in gear and started driving I could tell it was losing power, the light came back on, and the shaking ensued. This occurred in 2wd, and both 4wd lo and hi. I parked it at a neighbors place and there it sits for now.
I plan to try and get the codes read. My other vehicles can't make it through the snow we have right now, but it is suppose to get warm later today and might melt enough for me to get one out. I also live out in the country, so the nearest auto parts place is about 20 miles. Same with a dealership service shop. I'm hoping I can buy and return a code reader from an auto parts store to assess if this is something I can diagnose myself or not.
It is the 6.0l gas engine with the 4sp automatic transmission. The truck also has about 107,000 miles.
I've checked the lines from the Purge Valve on the Passenger side of the Intake Manifold, Check OK
I've Checked that Valve OK
I've Replaced the Canister Close Valve
I've got the Gas Cap tight.
I've removed the rubber bushing holding the CCV to the Evap Canister, hoping to isolate the Filter and point the blame on it, no luck there!!
I'm thinking next is to drop the Tank and check over all the Goodies on top.... as much as I hate the thought of that, the two access holes under the seats, just don't allow access to enough of the tank!
any thing there that I could suspect, I see there's a check valve!
There's also the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, which may be at fault.
my 2003 f-250 4x4 6.0 engine service light stays on all the time (for about 2 weeks now) it has 33,323 miles on it. it is running fine-no problems yet. no codes are showing up on a diagnostic test. What is going on?
View 10 RepliesLast year my car popped up with the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. I am cheap so I went out and bought a code reader- code 1443 came up. Online I found this information: 1443-Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault. I bought something from Ford for $81, erased the code and it came back on a week later. I just kept erasing it. It quit coming back on in November so I figured the bulb had burned out but the Light came on when I started the car. So I just ignored it. Now that the weather has warmed up again the light comes back on with the same code. Other question. Are there any modern cars that are as easy to work on as, say, a 68 Falcon? Or even a 74 Pinto? I don't expect real ease I just want to be able to stick my hand in the engine compartment with a blood sacrifice.

So today I ran by Autozone where I got the P0302 code. Now I realize I could go in for a tune up, but I'm a college student and just spent all my money on books so I'm looking for some DIY solutions before I lay down any large amounts of money. Where to start. As for a bit more background, I filled my car up with gas on Friday, the light came on Sunday and the car will shake on initial idle of the car.

My car has been throwing an ABS code for a long time now and I've finally decided to actually deal with it.
The code is: 00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Right (G45): Electrical Fault in Circuit
After reading that this could be due to a bad sensor, I replaced the front right sensor, but I am still getting the exact same code. I used measuring blocks in VCDS-Lite to check out what was going on with the wheel speeds and found that at speeds less than 20 km/h, the front right sensor reads 0 km/h, while all the others continue to read the proper speed.
I recently crossed 30,000 miles on my Challenger SE and the Check engine light came on. First time at dealer they just ran diagnostics and said it was a "service update" code that they ran and turned off the light. They said this explained why it was running very rough on idle. When the light came back on, I took it to another mechanic and they got the same code, but said one of the cylinders was misfiring. Back at Dodge, they are now replacing the cylinder today under warranty. My question is: with a car this young, what would cause this to occur, and how can I take steps to protect the new cylinder and prevent this for happening again?
View 17 RepliesCode 0341 (cam sensor?)On my way home epc light flashed about 5-7 times and message saying service engine. 111,000 miles and just had intake manifold replaced and plugs and coils not to long ago. I have been feeling a slight hiccup at cruising speed and twice my gti has just shut off while driving. New fuel filter as well. I searched the forum and didn't come up with anything specific. Can I just replace the cam sensor or is there more to it than that.
View 1 RepliesGot a 2002 GT with the NA 3.8 and 150,000 miles. The car has pretty much sat for the past 6 months, driven very sparingly. If it's been sitting for a while (like over night or longer) it will start no problem. If I turn the car off for a shorter period, it will crank but not fire. It will start only if I pump the gas as I'm turning the ignition.
In addition, on occasions it has died while at idle or coasting to a stoplight. After it dies it will fire back up no problem.
Fuel problem perhaps?
The "Service Engine Soon" light has been on for about a month before it started acting up. I had the codes checked at AutoZone and it came up with P0442 and P0128.
I have a 2002 f150 4.2 code p0340, ran rough, replaced cam sensor. drove after replacing and it runs fine now, code and service engine light comes on after restarting. from what i have read could this be a wiring problem?

View 1 RepliesLast week my service engine light came on. Friend checked it with his code reader. Got a P0402 code insufficient flow EGR valve. I have read several different threads on this subject on another Ford truck forum, slightly confusing me. Should I trust the code and just replace the EGR valve or do a number of other things that
1. Clean the throttle body first?
2. Test the EGR valve by blanking it off?
3. Test the DPFE valve?
4. Replace the DPFE valve instead of the ERG valve since the EGR valve rarely goes bad?
5. Only get OEM parts since after market parts do not last?
