I have a 99 silverado 4x4 with a 5.3l that has 118,000 miles. I just noticed the other day that my tow/ haul button is not working....I really do not tow much, but i would like to get it fixed. where does to go from the lever??? is there a sensor or motor to engage this on the tranny somewhere or is it built in the tranny???... is this a major deal or should i leave it alone and deal with it being broken???
View 14 RepliesNever really intended to tow heavy with my truck. But heavy towing seems to have found me. I've been hauling dump trailers to the local demo site and I've been toying the scales at the site between 21,000 and 28,000 lbs (way more than I want to haul, but my boss is a cheap jerk and won't stop loading the trailer until the straps barely make it over the trailer). My intent is to dump the thing right where he loads it next time he does it, as I've asked him to quit putting my wallet and maybe life in jeopardy.
Any way, my tow haul button hasn't worked through any of this. Am I murdering my tranny? The engine seems to grunt through just fine. But I'm worried about the fact that it doesn't down shift to go up hills.
I have a 2005, f350 6.0. I am new to owning a diesel and have a lot to learn. My truck runs excellent and has no issues,until I push the tow haul button in! It starts bucking at 2,000rpm and my rpm's shoot down to a low rpm and jump back up to a higher rpm. It's like the truck wants to shift but the tow haul is enabling it so it falls on its face i have never heard a truck or seen a truck act like this, but everyone says you don't want to pull with an automatic without the tow haul. I have just been leaving the tow haul off and the ruck pulls just fine.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2005 f250 super duty turbo diesel 6.0 automatic. The problem I'm having is, when I engage the tow/haul button the transmission doesn't down shift unless I feather the pedal. Also the engine will overheat at times. I've replaced the thermostat, but that's all so far.

Just after I drove it home I noticed the Tow/Haul mode switch was not working - no dashboard light and no transmission downshifting.
The dealer took the truck back in and kept it for 2 days, it came back working, they claimed to have replaced the gear shift lever. 500 miles later and the Tow Haul has failed again.
Tow/Haul button fallen off of the console shifter? Not really happy that my Platinum has a falling headliner, buttons falling off, mirrors are barely swinging in and out anymore, leaking cab, etc. I know of the third brake light problems and expected the mirrors to quit but looking for information on the button falling off or the headliner.
View 4 RepliesThe truck sat since 2002 or so. Hasn't ran since, So my brother and me towed it home and I started working on it. I replace the tailgate, Replaced the lights, Did a oil change, Dropped the gas tank out and ran a gallon of gas and seafoam through it. Then I was driving it the other day and I decided to play the radio so I pressed the power button and I heard a pop noise. Like not a fuse pop noise. This happens every time you turn it on/change the volume. Its coming from the speakers and the louder the volume the louder the popping is. Is the radio just bad? Its a funny square shape and I haven't ever seen a radio that would fit this. I checked all the fuses and I found nothing.
View 8 RepliesYesterday I was driving my truck and went to activate the cruise so I pressed the button to turn it on and hit set but nothing happened. The on light was lit but the cruise indicator didn't light up in the speedo. I got to where I was headed, shut the truck off and on my way home tried this again to have the the cruise work normally. Cruise acting up and not work on occasion? I've never had the cruise control act up before so is there something I can check out? Bad connection or something?

I later noticed that when I pressed on the Overdrive button (automatic transmission) which is on the steering column gear change lever, nothing happened. The overdrive light did not come on and the gear did not change to overdrive.
View 11 RepliesThe Sync is not connecting any longer to my IPhone 6. I push the phone button on the navigation system and it does not bring up the phone screen/menu. It is a dead button now.
View 7 RepliesPush the o/d button to turn off, light on shifter comes on as off...and the rpms drop.
Push the button again (turning O/D on) and the rpms increase. It appears its working 180 degrees opposite of proper.
Example to clarify...going down hill at speed, push the O/D off button and as before working correctly the rpms would increase allowing the engine to aid in some braking.
That is now 180 degrees opposite. Push that button while descending and the rpms drop like it got thrown into neutral.
Quick observation: with the exhaust brake switch off, I notice it appears that the exhaust brake is still working automatically when you are in Tow/Haul mode and apply the brakes coming down a hill.
I notice the engine drone and turbo boost gauge rise...although neither the drone nor the boost are as noticeable as when the switch is turned on.
I know the 2011-2014 had "auto exhaust brake only" but it appears some of that functionality is still built in.
Another question: what is the consequence of turning the exhaust brake on and leaving it on for normal driving? Is mpg affected? Engine output? Engine wear?
This maybe a dumb question. But when do you use this feature? How many pounds should I start using the tow mode? I dont haul much. I just haul a 4place trailer with 4wheelers. And in the bed another 4 wheeler or camp gear. All the 4wheelers weigh over 650lbs wet and the trailer not too sure but its steel.
My truck doesnt have a hard time hauling, it shifts fine. Feels like its not even hauling anything. I did use to tow mode once but it seem it just keeps the rpm higher and I felt that the highter rpm was not needed when I was hauling.
2008 F-250XL, 5.4L V8, 5 speed auto, 3.73 rear.
Two/haul fails to engage and does not light up dash indicator light from time to time. After 4 or 5 tries it usually will engage normally. No codes.
I have a 2009 F350 and use it almost exclusively for towing. Every time I stop to fill up or eat or whatever I have to push the tow haul button again when I start the truck- no big deal really just annoying at times because I don't always remember to turn it back on. Is there a way to have it turn on with the button and not turn off until I push it again (even after the trucks been turned off)? I suppose while we're on the subject same with the heated seats?
View 12 RepliesI just noticed that on the highway sometimes (3 times) the tow/haul light is lit. I press the button and it will not turn off and when I get off of the highway I can tell the trans is shifting through the tow/haul strategy. Once I shut the engine off and restart it the light goes off and it drives normal. When it is driving normal I can turn the tow/haul off and on with no problems but noticed the light coming on it's own recently.

View 10 RepliesAll of a sudden my T/H doesn't work while I am driving. If I stop and put in park, I can press the button and it will go into T/H. Once I am driving, it won't go out of T/H, and visa-versa. Is this a sensor issue or something more serious? The tranny works fine in either situation, downshifts correctly.
View 2 RepliesAbout a month ago, I hit a flock of turkeys in my 08 Silverado, dented my hood above the grill next to the driver side headlight, took it to the garage to have it fixed, now my remote start isn't working. It worked the day that I took it over to have the dealer fix the damage.
All it does now is my lights come on, and I hear the clicking noise under the hood but nothing happens. I also already tried resetting and relearning the key, that doesn't work either. what could be wrong?
This morning, the tow/haul light came on, tranny temp gauge wouldn't read (stayed below zero), "check gauges" warning came up on the panel, and "check engine" light came on. Truck ran fine/shifted fine, always has.
2007 F-250, V-10, 5-r 110 tranny.
Looking for a diagram of where the transmission temp sensor is found ..... I have a 2005 f 250 5.4l FX4.... My tow haul light keeps flashing...
