I have a 2006 Scion tC, 109k miles. I have a rattle coming from the front-right wheel area. It's only over small bumps (I mean SMALL, like little dips), and I can't really re-produce it on a jack. It happens more frequently when I turn to the left. The frequency of the rattle sounds similar to a paint can ball, but if it were a lower pitch. I'm thinking of checking the the strut mount, or maybe the end link?

View 1 RepliesThe roads here in Maine this winter were especially awful with potholes and bumps. My '03 Ford Focus Wagon has recently developed a noise that I can't diagnose. The noise can be best described as a "rattle" from the front end when going over very small bumps/cracks in the road. It almost sounds like loose shocks. They are the original shocks and have 130k miles on them.
Big bumps are not a problem. Car does not bottom out, sway upon braking, or bounce when I put my weight on it and release. Several years ago I had a "creaking" from the front end and my mechanic replaced some bushings which fixed the problem. I originally thought this was the same, but it doesn't sound like that - worried it could be the struts but I want to diagnose it a little better before I bring it to a mechanic and just say that I have a front end noise...
I have a 2007 ES 350, the driver's door doesn't seem to be a snug as it ought to be. Hitting even small bumps seems to cause a jarring of the door. How to snug it up?
View 10 RepliesI bought a 09 Sonata GLS in July, really nice other than dash noise, what has been described as crackle. Briefly, my sonata is makes crackling noise going over small bumps, more pronounced in colder temp. I have taken it in to the dealer 4 times, problem still persist. According to the dealer, Hyundai regional office knows of my problem, and there is no fix for it at this time. I just bought the vehicle and I am suppose to live with it?????
View 69 RepliesI'm getting ready to do some maintenance such as flushing the brake fluid, new air filter, and changing spark plugs. I've noticed lately a noise from what I'm assuming is my front suspension that can be heard when going over small bumps on roads at low speeds. It sound like a squeaky spring, almost like something needs to be oiled. I'm still on stock suspension with close to 80k on the clock, so I was wondering if there is anything in particular I should look for when I'm messing around the wheels bleeding brakes, or if there is a common procedure to lubricate something so the noise stops. I can hear it from inside the cabin so I imagine you can hear it from outside the car.

View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.
View 18 RepliesMy 2015 GTI is making rattling noises over small bumps. It sounds like a loose ball joint or tie rod end. I had the sway bar link recall work done. It's definitely a loose metal part rattle. My dealer can't look at it until next Tuesday.
View 7 RepliesSo on my girlfriends 2000 echo I get the classic bad wheel bearing noise/vibration on the front left (driver side) wheel. Worsens under load (right turn) and goes away when unloaded (left turn). I've replaced left side bearing, CV axle, brake rotors/pads and the noise still persists. My next thought is maybe the ball joint but humming/vibration tells me something out of rotational balance. Bearing in the transmission? I don't know. I'm stuck.
View 5 RepliesMy 1998 V6 Camry has rattle on right front and now starting on left too. Bad shocks were replaced and still rattles going over bumps at speeds 20-35. Don't notice on freeway. Car drives fine, no pulling or other problems just irritating noise at slower speeds. Two different mechanics say the Strut mount plate is loose. Could not find any other problems? Is it okay to leave the mount plates in place? Mechanics say other than annoying there isn't a problem.
View 5 RepliesI have this front end rattle or clanking. It happens over bumps and cracks in the road. The rattle seems to be more on the passengers side to under the middle of the car. The stats of my Wagon - lowered on Bilstien Sports/H&R springs. All The control arms have been replaced back in 04 and maybe 40k miles ago. Drive axles were replaced once a long time ago, before it was lowered.

I did not touch the leaf springs or the sway bar, except to grease the links, which otherwise looked good.
I was going to put new ball joints in but wimped out and had my mechanic do them. I'm too old to be doing that kind of crap. I just replaced the fuel pump with the correct one. That's enough under truck time for a while. 91,000 miles on the originals, stopped the rumble / rattle when I hit bumps in the front end. Getting the alignment Tuesday. Guess I got my money's worth out of them. Still has original brake pads too. Thinking of doing an upgrade to the brakes, drilled and slotted, I tow an RV and need it to protect the idiots that pull out in front of me. 2001, V10, CC ......

View 1 Replies'01 Taurus with an occasional rattle/clunking sound coming from the front end when going over bumps. Took it to the local shopping center auto. service dept. (probably 1st mistake I know) They say the only thing they could find was the RH CV boot was bad and was probably the source of the noise. Doesn't sound right to me since the boot is rubber and what I hear is more of a metal sound..what I was thinking possibly a suspension link or tie rod end. I know what a bad cv JOINT sounds like and it's nothing like this. Now if the CV boot is bad I don't mind to replace it, but I don't want to spend the money if it is not going to solve the problem. I've never heard of a boot making noise before.

View 3 Replies2004 PSD 4x4 72k. I thought I would be proactive so I bought the front ball joints and have plans to install them but recently I starting hearing (and feeling) a clicking sound in the front LEFT when I make sharp turns to the left and hit small bumps now and again. I jacked up the front end and am able to get 1/4" of movement front to back (top to bottom so not steering) in the wheel.
I narrowed it down to the hub. I took it apart and it is most likely a sealed unit so no adjustment is possible....that I can see.I pulled out the locking hub and got as far as I can to know there is not an adjustment. Need to confirm that it indeed is a sealed bearing and if so what are the part number(s) I may need to repair it.
I'm not sure if my car is an R32 but it is a mkIV GTI V6. There is a small radiator in front of the front passenger wheel and air is ducted from the front air scoops into the radiator. What is it cooling? I searched for a transmission radiator but nothing came up. I can only speculate that it is to cool engine oil or transmission oil. Is that correct and if so what is it called?
View 2 RepliesSo for the last few weeks, I've been noticing small specks of grease on the inner portion of my front passenger side wheel. I initially chalked it up to some sort of weird road grime or maybe I ran over something, etc. But it consistently has come back after a week or so goes by between washes (notice it each time I go to clean my wheels each week). Upon further inspection, it looks to be coming from the end of the boot on the tie rod. Its not "wet", but more of a sticky/dry grease that's seeped out and picked up grime/dirt. So it's definitely a very slow/minor amount. And the 3 other wheels definitely don't have the grease on them.
Hard to get photos and its dark out right now, but there's not much to see. Just a few small "globs" of grease that stick to the wheel barrel over the course of a week. Again, not a major amount by any means, but definitely doesn't seem normal.
I have an appointment scheduled for a tire rotation and head unit software update this Friday, so I'll be sure to have them inspect everything down there. Really curious as to what could have caused this, and what the fix might be.
