Saturn - Vue :: 2003 - Getting ABS Lights?
Jun 14, 2013
03 saturn vue, 3.0 V6, fwd. am getting abs light. turns out you can get vue with and without abs. you look up info on front hub assy and they show hubs with and without the abs sensor. the vue is special. you can remove the VSS sensor from hub. why they call it ABS sensor or VSS is confusing. maybe on vues without abs it is called vss? point is, dont ALL vues have the VSS at each wheel? i looked at 2 different 02-03 vues in junkyard. 1 was the evil CVT trans and the other was a manual trans vue. too bad neither was the V6 model like mine. neither had any wire harness at front hub. so how do they read vehicle speed? i know the CVT trans is evil, a real piece of junk. maybe it reads vehicle speed internally?

I own a 2008 Saturn Vue and have had the following problem for about a month – The following “Idiot lights” remain on:
•ABS
•TCS ~ Traction Control System
•ESP ~ Electronic Stability Program Indicator LightIt started while driving on dry/icy/snow covered roads.
They went off and on for a few days and the brakes sounded like they went into antilock mode.I took the Vue to 2 mechanics.
Opinion: there is something wrong with one of the sensors & it needs to be replaced BUT since all 3 remain on there is no way to tell which sensor to replace.

My wagon 2003 l-300 has flickering lights and when the radio is off you can hear the engine whine. Is this a grounding problem or is the alternating system going out? I have checked all the connections and do not see anything obvious. What to check.

All the sudden last night I looked outside and saw several lights on my car turning on for no reason. My head and tail lights, my interior lights. I tried turning them off with the key in and out but that did not stop them from going off. they stayed on until the battery drained. Another on going problem is neither of the remotes with new battery's will work rarely. To unlock truck, or doors and when they do work not all the doors will lock or unlock with the remotes when they occasionally work.

I have a 2001 Saturn SC2. I went out to start my car and all the lights and chimes worked but car would not start.. wouldn't even act like it wanted to. I did hear a little humming maybe with a lil click but not like "click click click" sound . O and the radio wouldn't work either, and when i turned it to on the security light and check engine lights were on, not blinking. I tried resetting the alarm (saw on a site) by unlocking the door, turning it off and on and off and leaving it unlocked for 30 min that didn't do anything.
When I came back the lights were getting dimmer and now this morning I have no notta. Now my battery is dead and I cant check anything, does this sound like the security, how do i quick fix it or is this the ignition or starter???? My battery is brand new. Oh and I did just start using my alarm clicker again after about a year because I thought i lost it but just found it, that's why I am really thinking it has to do with the alarm but I cant even check the ignition or the starter with a dead battery. I tried to jump start it and notta.

My friend drives a 1997 Saturn SC2 with 150,000 miles. It's an automatic transmission. For the most part, the car runs great, save for one problem.
Occasionally, she'll park the car (like say, at the grocery store), and when she tries to start it up again, say a half hour later, the lights on the dash will come on, and the radio will come on, but the engine won't crank. Not even a click or anything. Typically, she'll call a tow truck, the guy will show up, turn the key, and it'll start right up. This has happened at least half a dozen times, including just last night in my driveway.
What do you guys think could be causing this? Initially I thought loose battery cables, but since her electrical accessories are consistently coming "on," that's obviously not the problem. Now I'm thinking neutral safety switch, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have a 1995 Saturn SC2, stick shift, 58,000 miles. Occasionally when I am driving, both the engine light and radiator lights start blinking on and off, the radio goes off and the wipers do not work. When I stop the car and start it again it stops. I don't know if the lights are off then also. I was told by my mechanic that all of those are on different circuits and he is puzzled. Of course it doesn't ever happen when I can conveniently drive to the mechanic's shop. Otherwise this car drives very well except the AC just quit . . a broken pump I was told. Lots of miles left on this car but this problem is driving me crazy--I think my mechanical is skeptical.

My 2007 Saturn Vue Hybrid died on Sunday while driving down the highway. The car has 101,500 miles and a brand new (November) battery. It was -5 degrees out at the time. Different engine lights started coming on, one at a time (the check engine light, the traction control light, the oil change light, then the seatbelt light) and then all of a sudden the entire dashboard went dark and the driving lights went out (it was close to sunset so we had the lights on). My fiance barely managed to steer the car over to the shoulder before it completely died. The hazard lights wouldn't even worked. My mechanic got it jump started yesterday and was able to drive it and said no engine lights are on, and everything looks fine. He does not think it was the alternator. What this could be?

My 2003 Saturn Vue V-6 AWD headlights dim while driving. They don't entirely go out, but at the very least it is distracting. It happens on both hi and low beam. The battery indicator light also pops on briefly, and generally unpredictably. The only indicator of the battery light turning on is it seems to happen more often when I come to a stop, when the fan turns on. And possibly more often while using the AC. The headlights always dim, nothing seems to make this happen more or less.
This vehicle has a new alternator. Actually, it is on its second new alternator. The first was installed in November 2014. It was overcharging and I was getting all kinds of funny lights on, before replacing it February 2015. I've had the current problems since this time. My mechanic has tested the alternator, starter, battery, and connections. Has also checked all the grounds. Apparently, my vehicle is 100%?
While the dimming lights don't really bother me, I have a teenager who wants to inherit this vehicle. I would like to resolve this before passing it on.

I'm using a 2003 Saturn Ion. After using a regular key to enter the car (which triggered the alarm) and then turning on the car, the alarm stopped and could run. Then when the car was stopped, and the key was removed (though on ACC instead of Off, it didn't turn back all the way).
After coming back later, there was no power to the car, and only the Security light on the dashboard appeared, staying on steadily. Pressing the brakes would make it disappear temporarily. The time wasn't appearing, and pressing the unlock button (on the door or the key) wouldn't respond.
After looking into this some, I tried putting the key in the ignition, and holding it there for 10 minutes. Though I think it may have slipped a bit a few times in the first 10 minutes, I held it there for more than 20 minutes. The lock and car logo didn't turn off or dim down.
What am I supposed to do? There's got to be a much easier way then literally holding the key all the way back for half an hour. And just to note, the ignition still doesn't turn back all the way to Off, it can only go to ACC; from there it can be removed. In the past, this was fixed by tapping the button on the clutch. But this doesn't work now that the car is in this locked down mode.

So, I'm driving my 2003 Saturn LW 300 wagon (3.0 liter, V-6 engine) the other day, and the engine shuts off out of nowhere. Luckily, I was on a quiet secondary road, so I drifted to a curb in neutral. Then my car wouldn't start. Eventually, my car started. I drove for another five minutes, and the engine shut off again--without coming back on--while I was driving.
This time I couldn't get the car started again. I had it towed into a shop. Of course, the car starts up, no problem, in the garage. But while it's running for 20 minutes, the engine cuts off once again. They started it back up again, and it ran without stop for 40 minutes. The mechanics can't figure out the problem, and I don't feel real good about taking this car back on the road, especially since I do a lot of highway driving.
What's going on here? (A friend's father had a similar problem with his truck; after taking it to four different shops, one of them finally determine the problem--the fuel pump's electrical harness. Is it possible I'm having the same problem?)

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion, 5-speed, manual transmission, with about 95,000 miles. This week, whenever I turn on the air conditioning (high, low, or in-between) a whirring or revving or rumbling sound comes from under the hood, close to the car, center or passenger side. It sounds I'm driving a huge truck. The sound doesn't change with RPMs or MPHs, idling/neutral or in any gear.
The sound will begin shortly after I turn on the a/c and sometimes stop by itself. When it stops, especially if I'm not moving, the car gets so quiet (and there's just maybe a hint of hesitation) that it almost seems like the car has stalled. When I turn off the the air conditioning, the noise stops just after. But the whole time the a/c is on, it's working just fine, nice and cool.

This car makes this grinding sound whenever you first start the car in the morning on a cold day and take a left turn. After 5 minutes it won't do it anymore. I can't tell if it's coming from the transmission but that's what one mechanic said. He said it was the transmission but he couldn't target where. His first diagnoses was the struts but that proved incorrect so I'm taking what he says with a grain of salt.

This car has the notorious GM lawsuit CVT transmission..

First my security system started going off for no reason.Second the odometer quit working (it will go forward a few miles and then back a few miles).Third the running lights and headlights started flashing on and off. Not at a paticular interval but it seems to be as the "security warning light" flashes on and off. It is currently at Performance Chevrolet in Elizabeth City, NC and they have not been able to determine the problem. It has approximately 90,000 miles on it.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion-3 that I bought a few months ago. It has 157,000 mile and runs great when it will start. Here is the issue: after the car has sat for several hours it seems to flood and starts hard. I end up putting the accelerator to the floor and this seems to work. I have to crank the engine repeatedly and when it catches I hold it to the floor until the engine clears (lots of chugging and white/blue smoke until it clears) and then runs just fine. If the car sits for a short period, it starts ok. The longer it sits, the harder it is to start (i.e overnight or a whole shift at work).
If the car sits for several days it starts just fine. It acts as if it floods while it sits so I changed the Coolant Temp Sensor, still acted up. I then checked the fuel pressure at the schrader valve (55 psi) and noticed that it lost pressure as it sat. I assumed that the injectors were leaking and had them rebuilt (by Mr Injector). The flow bench results did not show and leaking. I reinstalled them along with new spark plugs and the car started up immediately and ran/drove great. This morning was the first morning of sitting all night and it would not start again. It tries to fire but will not catch. I tired to have the CEL code read at autozone but they told me my lighter wasn't working and the couldn't do it (although it runs my GPS just fine).

I own a 2003 Saturn Ion I.
Recently I noticed that the fan on the radiator does not function, resulting in overheating when using the AC. I have tested the electrical wire leading into the fan motor and found that it is putting out 14.4 volts, indicating that the wire is functioning properly and that all fuses are intact. I also hand spun the fan to see if it would turn without resistance, which it did, indicating that the motor is not jammed.
These tests lead me to believe that I may need to purchase a new fan unit and install it. Additionally I have found that there is a dual fan option for my vehicle, and I was wondering if I should purchase that instead of the standard one fan?
