Have a 2008 Saturn - 30,000 miles. Most times it only starts in Neutral first time of day it is used. After this, fine. Had with dealer mechanics for 2 days and they say they can find nothing wrong. Can't do anything unless they have the problem.
View 3 RepliesThis was happening on my 2008 a couple of months ago and also now on my 2013 I noticed sometimes when I get in the car I push the button once and as usual then I have to push the button the second time and it only goes in neutral and assign comes up and says shift to park position starting so I don't get it this only happens once in a while. Then a couple times later or a couple days later as usual I pushed the button one and everything works fine right into the drive what gives?
View 8 RepliesI am having a problem when i go to start my car. I only seems to happen in the morning. The car will start and then 2 seconds later it will die. The only way i can get it to go is my jamming it in drive.. and then still it takes the car like 2 minutes before it will pick up speed and start driving normal.
View 2 RepliesMy 2004 Camry XLE 4 Cyl has rough starts in the morning. Idle is smooth after it starts, but it just doesn't start as smooth as it does every other start during the rest of the day. Its a significant difference.
Things I've done so far:
-Cleaned the mass airflow sensor with CRC Mass Airflow Cleaner
-Cleaned throttle body by following the DIY
-Changed the Air filter
-Changed Oil (upgraded to Mobile 1 Synthetic, changed filter to Bosch)
-Changed PCV Valve
-Changed Spark Plugs to Iridium Power
It doesn't seem to matter what the weather is like, either way it rough starts. It has been doing this for quite a while now, well before all this maintenance I've been doing lately.
My golf, made in 2008 (1.6 FSI, petrol), has a tricky problem now. When I turn on its engine for the first time in the morning, its RPM goes over 10 (12~13) with louder sound than normal. So I turn it off and on again, and then everything becomes immediately fine: RPM is below 10 and the sound is just fine. After that, the problem does not happen again all day. But it happens in the next morning when I turn on the engine for the first time in the day!!
View 2 RepliesStarting yesterday, I have been experiencing a strange braking problem with my GTI. I leave my house, and then the first time I really have to use the brakes, it's like I have NO brakes. I push the pedal the normal amount, and I feel resistance in the pedal, but the car basically doesn't slow down. Then I press the pedal down HARD (don't want to run the stop sign at the bottom of the hill!) and then it slows down pretty quickly. After this first episode, the brakes are normal. Starting yesterday leaving work, it has done it to me three times in a row. It seems the car has to sit a while for this to happen.
Again, its not necessarily the first time I hit the brake pedal (my car is a manual) but it is the first time meaningful braking is needed. The car has 7k miles on it. When it started yesterday afternoon leaving work, as I pulled out, it felt like the brakes were stuck and abruptly released for a second, and it almost felt like the brakes were dragging slightly on the way home for a while. I do always use the handbrake, of course I release it fully. When I got to work, I checked all the brake rotors, they were all cool to the touch. How does the 'hill-holder' feature work (could it be messing up?)
My 2001.5 Passat, 143,000 miles, has a problem which has me stumped. In the morning it won't catch. Starter turns over fine. Have to pump gas a bit. After 7 or 8 attempts, it (grumbling) coughs, chokes and then roughly starts. If I let it sit for a few minutes, it smooths out. After that, I have no trouble starting up the rest of the day, and engine runs smoothly and quietly. One buddy sez its the fuel pump; buddy #2 sez its the MAF filter; #3 sez its a sensor or maybe gummed up fuel injection. I used injector cleaner, but it hasn't worked.
View 3 RepliesI was on my way to the store earlier today. Started the car, put in reverse, backed out, no problem---just like any other day. Put in first gear then started rolling. As I neared the RPM to shift to second, the gearbox was wobbly (which was strange), put it into second, then I had to downshift. It felt wierd. I pulled over. Car only goes into 1st and 2nd gear, I have no neutral and can't get into the other gears.
Some nice guy came up to me to see what the problem was. He told me it might be my clutch cable. He was nice enough to stop traffic for me so I could flip a u-turn in 1st gear to head back home.
So I'm home now, clutch can go into 1st or 2nd. Clutch feels normal, gearbox (where shifter is) is loose. I have a 2001 Saturn SL, I just hit 200,000 miles. I love this car. Runs great until today, just cant get into other gears or reverse.
Our 1997 Lumina with a 3.1 liter engine and about 190,000KMS is having difficulty starting in the morning.
I have changed the spark plugs, plug wires, checked the connections to the battery and put dielectric grease on them. None of that seemed to make much of a difference. The key has to be held for about 5-7 seconds and it coughs to life and then runs rough for about another 5 seconds and the interior lights are dim during this too. After that it comes to life and runs great.
Is it possible for starters to start to weaken? I have never had a starter do that, they have either worked or not. Besides that, I don't know what else could be the problem.
I have heard that these engines can have condensation issues when the temperature straddles the freezing mark, which it has been the last few weeks. Maybe it just needs to get below zero and stay there?
It seems like the first thing in the morning when I pull out of the driveway my car acts like it not accelerating smoothly. It's kinda jerky and seems like it takes a second to get the gas. I mean I know some cars are a little jerky after not being driven for a day or so but she is brand new, only a few months old.

View 5 RepliesI bought a new 2013 Toyota Prius Three. It has 23K mile on it now. I have noticed a weird noise with vibration from engine when I start the car for the first time in the morning. The first 10 or 15 seconds after it is on, there is no problem as soon as the engine wants to turn on (engage) I hear the noise. There is no engine light or triangle alarm on. What is going on?

Started maybe at 2k miles and happens every morning. It seems to only happen to me until the car warms up and then its fine, it jerks like if I was learning how to drive a manual.
View 16 RepliesI have a manual transmission and am having difficulties with my stick shifter. I had my car in neutral with my foot on the brake, and when I tried to shift into first gear I was unable to get it into gear. I wasn't able to get it in any other gear as well. Once the car was turned off though, I had no problems getting into gear. But when I turned the car on again, I wouldn't allow me to get anywhere but neutral. After about 10 minutes being off and not moving, the car shifted like normal again and I was able to drive it without a problem.
View 1 RepliesI'm assuming I might have a coil going but I'm not sure. Yesterday morning and this morning I started my truck and it was fine, I backed out the driveway again truck was fine. I put it into D and pull forward it was fine till I hit about 1300rpm, then it felt trike the truck was stumbling, I went a little faster to 1500/1600rpm and it stopped, as soon as I slowed up and then hit the go pedal it started again at around 1300rpm and stayed till 1600rpm and then it went away. So this is twice now two days in a row this has happened the exact way and only in the morning and goes away with no problems. I hooked up my SCT X3 and there are no codes and when it stumbles I have no lights come up. What I should do?

I certainly don't want it NOT to start! is there some sort of sensor that tells the car its in park and therefore allows it to start, which may have slipped/become faulty telling the car its safe to start, even though its in neutral and not park?
View 4 RepliesSometimes my 2002 Acura RL will start right up. I go shopping, come out a half hour later and it won't start. Has a new battery, no clicking noises. If I get it into neutral and push it the car will start. Would this be the starter motor, fuel lines, alternator? any guesses?

View 8 RepliesMy 1997 Saturn SL has had an odd overheating problem for several years now. When idling the engine starts to overheat, but the fan does not kick in until/unless I turn on the AC.( I do a lot of idling, as I work from the car a good deal.) I've had the car serviced, even had the fan specifically checked in the shop, & had the AC components changed out last year (whole other issue, barely blows cool air). But the overheating abides.
