I am getting unusual noise from engine bay. I first thought it's the belt but doesn't seem like it. I am scheduled to visit a dealership but would like to get informed as much as I can.

So earlier today i noticed this unusual noise coming from the engine bay. You cannot hear it if your sitting inside the car. Only time you can hear it is if the car is running and you happen to be standing in front of the car.
The noise isn't constant and tends to come and go. After about 6 plus tries trying to film it, I finally got a clip where you can hear it for a bit.

I purchased a 2011 Sonata about 6 weeks ago. I like almost everything about it, but the engine is very noisy. I'm not talking about a loud growl when you accelerate, but it's almost sounds like there are 2 frequencies sounding at once. It's higher pitched and at times sounds like pinging or clattering. It's very hard to explain. Unfortunately, sometimes it's worse than others and when I've taken it to the dealer, it's not at it's worst. The dealer I purchased it from told me that it was normal, even though I drove another 2011 on their lot that did not have the sound. Another dealer told me that it was a loud fuel pump because of the high pressure of the injectors and that Hyundai is aware and is working on a new "cover" that should muffle the sound. When I contacted Hyundai directly, they did not know of any new "cover" being developed . Assuming I've described it well enough to know... The only thing I know to do is wait for it to get consistently worse, and take it in again.
View 35 RepliesWinter is coming and I often leave the car running in the morning when stopping a few minutes to drop off the kids, etc. (otherwise it all fogs up and I need to wait a few minutes again before I can leave).
Issue is, when the santa fe engine is running, if I close the door, the car beeps for like 5 seconds, every time I close a door. (Close my door, beepppp, get the kid, beeeeeepppppp, get the bag, beeeepppppppppp) and then, I cant lock the doors so I have to leave the car unlocked after it has beeped 3x 5 seconds to alert anyone around that the doors are unlocked and that it's still running.
Hyundai is supposed to install my remote starter next week, which at least will fix the issue of being unable to leave the car running with the doors locked, but the beeping all the time is REALLY ANNOYING. I KNOW THAT MY CAR IS STILL RUNNING. Dealer is telling me they cant disable the beep.
I have a loud noise coming from the passenger side of the engine, on my 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2,4 with less than 6000 km L. My buddy said it was a lifter. Last night, my brother-in- law, a qualified mechanic, who is the fixed operations manager at a Hyundai dealership said it is ''piston slap'' and that they had already changed two engines this year for this.
I had the mechanic listen to the noise 2 weeks ago when in for my first oil change but Blondie said it was the fuel injection system...
My 2007 Prius has started making an unusual sound. At first I thought it was some kind of pump or something, but now???
When I put on the emergency brake, the brake pedal or when I put the car in park or take it out of park and put it in D, it makes a "chuck chuck chuck" sound, not high pitched, but not a low sound either. It seems to be coming from under the hood on the left side. It sounds something like a belt slipping or a pump with a squeak maybe?
It does not appear to make this noise when simply depressing the brake while driving, so I'm not sure it's the same abs actuator issue.
Ok so this past weekend I finally got my car up and running with kinetics stage 3 kit took it out for a drive plenty of times this weekend everything turned out great. Car pulls really hard. I also installed some new coilovers and spacers. This morning I woke up and drove my car to my local general tire shop to get aligned. When driving It first sounded great but after about 10 min, And yes I punched it a few times, the car started to make a wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh wahh. With the speed of the car. Not from the engine! Now I'm hoping it's a wheel bearing or something because I've never heard one before.
View 2 RepliesMy 2010 Sonata GLS recently started to emitting some noise during acceleration, seemingly come from under the hood. The noise is most noticeable between 15-25 MPH, and is more noticeable when I go uphill. The noise also becomes more frequent with higher speed.

I have a2007 Camry SE and this morning it was quite cold and when i started it it was making a unusual humming noise. my girlfriend said it contined to make the noise while accelerating. Just started the first time today.
View 2 RepliesBasically, when driving shortly after turning on the car (when the engine is still warming up) I often experience a 'shot' of acceleration despite not further depressing the accelerator. In other words, I'll be driving along smoothly and suddenly the car will speed up slightly by itself without me having done anything. This only occurs when the HSI is past the middle (i.e. when the engine is powering the car) and when the car has recently been switched on. It's almost as if the sensor that detects my acceleration is re-calibrating itself while I'm driving, increasing the input to the engine.
The first time it happened it was a bit of a shock and I was a little scared, however I'm used to it by now and can anticipate it happening (however it doesn't happen 100% of the time). It's nothing too serious - it probably only accelerates a couple of KMs above what I'm actually doing but still is a bit of a worry. I'll be taking it in for a service shortly and seeing what they say about.
I'm experiencing an unusual grinding noise when accelerating from a dead stop but only in this specific situation.
1. When battery is at a low state of charge and the AC is on, therefore, whenever I slightly step on the gas the engine will immediately start.
2. Only under this condition, when I slightly press on the gas and the engine will start to charge the battery and propel the car at the same, there is a slight grinding noise coming from the front of the car. I don't know what this noise is, it sounds like gears grinding, it's very light though.
I know it's not the brake accumulator noise, because that's a whole different sound, and also this only happens under the condition I described above. When battery is low and ac is on, and the engine will need to start right away even when gas peddle is slightly depressed.
The best way to describe the sound is if you were to take a soda can and cut it in half and rub the two halves together (the edges) it sounds like that.
Also, there are no lights on the dash. It's a 2009 with about 73,400 miles.
The transaxle oil has already been changed maybe 10,000 miles ago.
The noise started recently, at least I only noticed it recently since it's summer and I have the ac on much more. There are no drivability issues, but the thing is, this noise was not there before, I know I'm not hearing things. You know when you drove a car for quite some time you will naturally know what sounds are normal and what sounds are new.
I have a 2007 Prius with about 77,000 km on it. Lately I've noticed that the car would make an unusual noise sometimes when driving at around 50 - 60 km/hr in stealth mode, with slight accelerator pressure such that the energy monitor shows power flowing from the battery to the motor (ie - not gliding or regen braking).
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Silverado 2wheel 1500 that has developed an unusual noise that seems to come from behind the dash (near the glove box). There is a roller type sound (creaky likes it's stretching something) that usually ends with a clunk. I'm pretty sure it does it whether the AC is on or not and it doesn't seem to affect the AC at all. I just had the thing in for maintenance so, I hesitate to take it back. I did have the blower control replaced about 10,000 miles ago (wouldn't come on until Speed 3) and I did have the cabin filter replaced recently.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2009 KIA rondo with 64k miles. There is an unusual amount of noise coming from the front left side. At first I thought it may have been road noise. But the sound eventually became louder at higher speeds 60-70 mph. So I inspected all the fluids and motor mounts all are clean, not burnt odors and or bubbles. The motor mounts are not damaged. All belts are in excellent condition. There is alot of brake dust on the outside rim of the tire. Pulled the front right tire to inspect the caliper and brake pads. There is plenty of pad left and has normal wear, the rotor also has wear consistent with that of the pads. Pulled left front tire to inspect caliper and pads, thinking because of noise that the harmonics might be on the driver side. Normal wear on caliper and pads. So rotated the tires back to front, hoping maybe it was tire noise. No such luck there is still alot of noise coming from front end....its not a whining sound more a muffled tone that sounds like road noise. I don't want to replace the calipers if I don't have too since they are 332.00 each.
View 3 RepliesI've noticed over the past two mornings while driving to my office a sort of whirring sound for lack of a better word. It has only happened in the mornings. It has been low to mid-50s temp. The sound seems to be coming from the left side of the engine bay or inside the dashboard. Basically like a fan sound but this happens even without my HVAC activated. It doesn't seem like a big deal but the reason I mention this is because it's the first time I've even experienced this since buying my Touareg last year.
Interestingly, after shutting the engine off and restarting, the sound goes away. This particular sound is definitely noticeable, even with my stereo on.
Purchased a new 2.0T Santa Fe this weekend. While driving it home from the dealership noticed a loud wind noise between 60-80mph. We took it back to the dealership within 30 minutes and talked to the service manager. They put us in a loaner Genisis and said they would take the front end apart and see where the noise was coming from. The dealership called back this morning and said they can't figuer out what/where the noise is coming from but they do agree it is a wind noise.. They are offering to swap the vehicle out with another one next week when it is delivered. High pitched noise while driving on the freeway?

Fault will go away on some turns but is generally consistent and easily duplicated. Took it to the dealer and they are stumped as well -- follow up appointment next week.
When turning the steering wheel slowly while from a stop or slow speed there is a grinding sound coming from the front end. It isn't very loud but you can also feel it in the steering wheel.
Is there a common thing/problem with these? I know there isn't a pump. There isn't any kind of a vibration or wobble at highway speed.
Sounds like worn out brake pads but it is way before they are supposed to get worn out. Took it to dealer they said brakes still have a lot left on them, but it still squeaks like crazy every time I stop. Taking it to dealer again. I am thinking something is defective, pads or rotors, as I just heard another new Santa fe have the exact same squeaking as they were driving along. My car is at 30k km.

When turning the car off a popping noise comes from under the gas tank area. The dealer heard in months ago and said its normal. It's still doing it. What could this be?
I also find that her emissions seems to smell very strong when the car is idling in the lane way and the door is open even when the car is warmed up.
I find her rear suspension really rough as well. When she takes bumps in the road the rear suspension hits them hard causing the car to bang when she hits them.
Her gas mileage is 13.4 regardless of driving lightly in the city.
Maybe im just anal but Is any of this normal?
Rear end Suspension noise, '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T? I purchased a new '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T in Sept. 2013. Shortly after I noticed the rear end of the car creaks/squeaks when the suspension compresses thru it's travel. This happens when driving over tall speed bumps at 2-3mph or into/out of steep driveways at 2-3mph. Rear end noise/squeak at anytime?
