May 20, 2014
I have been noticing that not only can I feel the trans. shifting but it feels like an old trans that is slipping. Is this normal?

View 18 RepliesSo dont know whats going on, but after my santa fe sat for a day, I went to go for a drive and when I left the house, the tranny slipped in 1st gear at around 3k rpms. The rpms just shot up, hammered into 2nd, then drove off as normal.
I couldn't get it to repeat it after that.
Facts:
-Car in eco mode
-Car sat for at least 24 hours
-Outside temp 70F
-slippage happened on takeoff at 3k rpm
-No CEL's
-around 11500 miles
What it could be? Should i take it in to hyundai? OR wait and see how it drives the next couple days.
I have the Sonata 2013 GLS and I've noticed the transmission is slipping. I drive it hard.
So the guy said he was going to call me, never called me back. I called 3 times and no one knew what the 30k service included. it was a simple question, I just asked if they could check when was the last time I had a transmission service.
I tried checking the level but it has no dipstick. what should I do? my car has 54,000.
We have a 2010 Santa Fe AWD LTD with about 140, 000km on it. It recently came back from front suspension work. The suspension is fine now, but we notice harder shifts in the transmission. Also, there seems to be a vibration just before shifting gears and when under load (like going up hill) seems to slip (like on ice) about once every second until the shift is made. Once the shift is made it drive smoothly until put under pressure again. Even stepping down a bit on the accelerator will cause this slipping feeling (or maybe its loss of power).
View 4 Replies2004 2.4L suv with 98K + miles. Transmission was slipping periodically - fluid levels were fine. Someone suggested changing fluids as it may be contaminated. This car has a manual option also that I don't normally use but I did take car out on a longer drive and it shifted as I directed. Since car is almost out of warranty (naturally) I was trying to find answers as I don't feel dealership will be honest with me. While I have not had an actual slip (engine revving and not moving) since fluids changed 2 weeks ago it does seem slow to shift. Since it was not consistent someone said the sensor may be going.

Just had new plugs put in and a tuneup so it's not that. Could something from the suspension work cause these symptoms?
View 29 RepliesI have an 04 2.7 litre V6 AWD Santa Fe with 189235 KM , with a Shiftronic transmission, recently, while in "d", the transmission would feel like its slipping or perhaps trying to down shift, its hard to tell what it's doing really, but if you then slapped it over into shiftronic, it would operate fine, no slipping, locks into gear strongly, indicating that its not mechanical, but related to the computer controlling "drive" function of the transmission, I flushed the transmission just after the symptoms arrived (using the correct SP3 fluid) and this made no difference, the old fluid, although ready to be changed, was not burnt or blackend. I thought of getting it reflashed ( read it online) but I am not sure it will work, especially if its like a sensor or something.
View 3 RepliesMy 2009 Santa-Fe AWD Limited is sick! Starting from a stop, the vehicle has abrupt shifts with the transmission slipping (RPM revving). Seems worse when cold. Checked the fluids, and found ATF fluid in the engine oil and engine oil in the ATF fluid. Quick internet check suggest a leaky vacuum modulator valve. (There is no way the fluids went in the wrong holes, the vehicle only has 69k kilometers on it, so it still has original ATF fluid, and I recently changed the engine oil myself.) So, do you think this is the correct diagnosis? How hard is it to change the modulator, and where is it located?
View 3 RepliesI was driving out of a parking lot and as I accelerated onto the main road my vehicle stopped. I heard a grinding sound and could not go forward or reverse. While the car is in drive, park or reverse my car will roll any which way. It pushed it across the street. I tried to locate my tranny dipstick via visual inspection and manual. I could not find it. Could the stick have never been put back at some point in service and caused this issue. That seems unlikely but the thought occurred. Could it be the velocity joint? Whatever it is it certainly sounds like a transmission issue.
View 1 RepliesWhen the temperature drops below -20 Celsius, I find the transmission shifts weird just after start up. It seems like it goes into second, then third normally, then abruptly drops back into second. I'm pushing very lightly on the gas pedal, so the drop down is weird. A couple times the nav was blank on start up.
View 8 RepliesThere is only one thing I don't like about our new SF. The transmission shifts from 4th to 5th gear at approximately 60 km/hr (36 mph +/-) and the rpm's drop to 1500 rpm. Now, when I want to speed up a tad (which is a frequent occurrence when driving around town), there is a pronounced hesitation before it drops back into 4th gear and accelerates.
In 5th gear at 1500 revs, I find that the engine is 'lugging' a bit. Yesterday, I started to compensate for this by changing to manual shifting as soon as the trannie shifted into 4th gear and leaving it there when I was traveling in that 60 kph speed area. For me, this is MUCH better and I quite like doing some of the shifting any way since I spent so many years driving manual transmission equipped cars.
How have others found the car to be when driving around town? Other than that, I really enjoy this car. Easily the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned --- their design provides terrific lumbar support and the new cloth material has a great 'feel' to it.
Just experienced something new in my less than a week old 2.0T. This morning was the coldest day since buying it (-15c). I had the block heater plugged in and it started up well. Let the engine run for my usual 30-40 seconds before putting it into gear. Reversed well, but was a bit slow shifting after putting it into 1st.
For the first 5 minutes or so of the drive, the shift were pretty rough. Mostly the shift between 1st and 2nd gear. Things got better after that and were fine for the rest of my trip and also an hour later when I came home.
Is this just a case of a very cold transmission and fluid, or is it something else? I've never owned a car that had such rough shifting in cold weather. Sluggish shifts yes, but not violent like these were.
Looks like transmission mount (driver side/ left) is leaking. I was under the car today, and i found the small dribble of a thick, slow moving, black fluid that didnt have any scent. it leaked down the unibody, onto a brake line(solid line) and even made a few droplets onto the rim and lower control arm.
I traced the leak to the bottom bolt of the transmission mount. i count believe it; but apparently Hyundai engineers opted to use hydraulic mounts versus the more typical solid rubber mounts. it honestly took me 10 minutes, with a flashlight, to check over everything. the ONLY place that the fluid came from was the lowest bolt of the tranny mount. i simply didnt want to believe it to be the tranny mount.
I called a couple dealers, and they all said that if i am the original owner, and i have the 100,000 mile warranty still in effect, its covered.

Here are a few pics.....
I travel on the highway frequently and when I am cruising at 115-120 km/h my gear consistently drops from 6th gear to 5th gear then back to 6th gear. I am not pressing hard on the gas just keeping it at a normal pressure. This is the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe brand new only 6500km. I brought it to the dealership twice already and they found nothing wrong. Saying there are no error codes when scanned and when they drive it nothing happens.
On my second visit I showed them a video of what is happening. It was two minutes long and within the two minutes my gear down shifted 3 times. So you can imagine when I am long driving how many times this happens. In order to get around it I have to shift to tiptronic and leave it on 6 gear so I don't get this down shifting incident.
VERY interested in the 2.0T but when I test drove it this weekend, the transmission seemed to lurch when I was gradually gaining speed from a stop. I wasn't trying to press the accelerator hard. Just driving it like I would my car and gradually gain speed while driving economically. The 2.4 seemed to do this less, but it also did it.
For those who own 2.0Ts, could y'all tell me if this is normal? I plan on test driving other 2.0T in the event the one I drove was an exception, but just curious.
I purchased a new 2015 Santa Fe Sport 2.4L ... transmission/acceleration issue. It's possible I just haven't had enough time to get use to this car but it seems to hesitate when I press the accelerator. Also, the transmission seems to annoyingly down-shift when I step on the break slightly or with a slight decrease in speed. Overall I love the car but I just wanted to see if this is something I just need to get use to or if I should be concerned?
View 11 RepliesMy tranny slips in drive and od when it is warmed up.It's fine for a few miles when it is cold.Did a quick search and it seems like it might be a bad mlps.
My question is, Will a bad mlps act up all the time or just when it's warmed up? Will a mlps and connector from a 91 tranny work on a 95 tranny? Don't really want to throw money at it if it will need a rebuild.
I might trade this '13 Elantra GT for a '14 or '15. Too many problems. I knew I shouldn't have bought a first year model.
When the engine is cold, the clutch slips. When it warms up, the clutch is strong like how it should be. Having a slipping clutch when engine is cold? My car only has 7,000 miles and I drive conservatively.
My 2001 santa fe has recently had a new clutch fitted as the old one was slipping but, when towing our caravan at the weekend the clutch is playing up again but, this time the clutch is slipping at anything above 2500 rpm yet she is pulling fine below this rpm.
View 4 RepliesI have a 06 plate Santa Fe 2.2 diesel and i think the cluch is on its way out, keeps slipping out of gear and the pedal itself is not aligned with the other two, mileage is about 79K i think.
View 4 RepliesOk santa fe 2006 (facelift) clutch was slipping. We've put new clutch kit in it (thrust bearing; friction and pressure plate). We discovered it had already had the DMF concersion to single mass. So we ordered the single mass clutch kit for it and fitted. All back together, clutch won't disengage and allow you to put it in gear!!! So took it all apart again to check the fitting as the inspection hatch it just didnt appear all fingers on the pressure plate was being pulled.. all looked correct, thrust bearing snapped in to place as it should... we got box back on (making sure the lever entered the thrust bearing correctly) and still no luck. When you press the clutch you can pull the rubber on the slave cylinder back and the piston moves all the way to the circlip. There appears to be movement on the pressure plate in the box. At a complete loss.......... what could have happened?
