I've got a case of dash rattle. I hit a small bump and I hear a small but plasticky rattle sound from (I think) the center of my plasticky dash. IT BUGS ME!
I wonder how I'd be letting the dealer tear apart my dash. The car has been on the road a full 2 months... First new car with dash rattle.
I have a 2013 GS, RWD. 33k miles. This is my third Lexus. Wife owns an 05 GX that we will drive till it dies. Had a 2010 RX also. The problem I'm about to describe occurred on the RX and now this GS which makes me crazy. The bottom line is that I have an intermittent noise that comes from the center of my dash. It sounds like someone is clicking a PC mouse very, very fast. It sounds like it is coming from behind the navigation. I've had it to the dealer multiple times and gone all the way to corporate.
The problem is that I have a Murphy's Law situation in that it doesn't occur on demand. I've even sent them a video of the noise but since they don't hear it themselves they won't touch my dash to fix it. Since it had this same noise now on two different vehicles I know it is a manufacturer problem and not just one vehicle. Both cars have navigation.
My 2014 Santa Fe suffers from the creaking dash (in the center) and I would like to know the fix when I have the windshield removed. Is it as simple as putting foam or rubber between the mounts and the dash or is there more to it than that?
View 11 RepliesSo I have some road resurfacing happening near my home which I've been driving through recently. One thing that I've begun hearing is a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the center speaker area on my dash. I have the ML system so not sure if the standard audio package has this speaker. I'm not 100% that it coming from the speaker but it's somewhere towards the center of my dash.
View 2 RepliesHas rattle that sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash? It sounds like a piece of tin sheet metal is rattling faintly. I wouldn't think a fuel line rattle would sounds like that, but maybe I am incorrect? Putting pressure on the dash with your hand doesn't seem to make it stop.
We also get the creek in the l/h side that I had assumed prior that it was from the door seal when the body flexes.
I had a persistent soft rattle that sounded like it was coming from the dash area. Looked there, pulled the glove box off, taped a wire, and padded where the glove box meets the dash board, padded my right hand mud flap, and padded the glove box door upper RH corner, all to no good effect. Then just a few days ago I pushed the shotgun seat forward and reclined the seat back all the way.
The next day I looked under the seat. There are three yellow plastic electrical connectors that control the airbag and sensor. They are surprisingly rickety by design. Double side taping a 1.5 thick inch soft foam pad on top of the connectors, between them and the underside of the seat did the trick. I LOVE conquering rattles.
I purchased a 2014 Santa Fe 2.0T last June. Has been an awesome car up until about 2 weeks ago. I started to notice a squeaky rattle sound coming from somewhere around the rear passenger door. I've tried pressing on things, checking all the door pockets and can't seem to find it. Looked at the front mud flap in front of the rear tire and it's tight. It only does it when I get above 45 MPH and is sporadic. I'm afraid the dealer won't be able to replicate the problem.
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to figure out a small leak on my mothers' Santa Fe. Recently I smelled coolant after my mother had gone for a long drive. I checked the Radiator and overflow... need maybe 1 qt of coolant.
Now I'm trying to find the cause of the missing coolant ! While it's running, I see no leak. Shut it off and it starts to drip from a small plastic tube on the firewall inside the engine bay area (on the passenger side). It drips down onto a rubber boot covering some steering stuff. Is this from the heater core?
OK so I bought my Prius a little over a week ago and there was no rattle. I drove it 350 miles to get it home and it was completely silent. A couple of days ago I heard a slight rattle, and its not even a rattle is like rubbing 2 Styrofoam cups together, but now today it is extremely loud. So loud that I can still hear it over the radio blasted. I have pressed everywhere on the dash and cannot quiet the noise. It sounds like it is dead center under the vent. First thing I did was to come on here and research. I have read tons and tons of threads regarding removing dash and placing felt but I could not find instructions on how to remove the dash. Looking for step by step instructions?
View 4 RepliesSo when I bought one of my cars used I noticed a plastic rattle coming from the dash. Removed the dash sprayed some silicone and sealed with rubber and that fixed it. maybe 2 weeks ago another very annoying rattle developed which you can hear when the ICE start and you accelerate...and now you can hear it even when you are cruising on the hwy. I thought it is from the dash again but you will see that even without the dash it is still there.
View 13 RepliesI bought a 09 Sonata GLS in July, really nice other than dash noise, what has been described as crackle. Briefly, my sonata is makes crackling noise going over small bumps, more pronounced in colder temp. I have taken it in to the dealer 4 times, problem still persist. According to the dealer, Hyundai regional office knows of my problem, and there is no fix for it at this time. I just bought the vehicle and I am suppose to live with it?????
View 69 RepliesMy 2013 has a rattle in the center armrest. the driver's side of the split that slides forward has worked a bit loose. I guess from leaning my elbow on there. I can not find any screws to tighten, etc. anywhere and hate to travel 60 miles each way to the dealer. I have only about 7500 miles on it so the 10,000 mile dealer trip is a few months away.
2013 GX Premium - Starfire Pearl / Ecru
After driving about 60kms yesterday for the first time and driving pretty cautiously to break the car in i noticed a pretty strong burning plastic like smell in our garage.
This is only my 3rd brand new car and i don't remember the other 2 having this smell..
does hyundai coat their new cars with Cosmoline? or another protective coating that burns off and takes a bit to go away?
I am 3 weeks into my 2014 ES300h, my first Lexus and first hybrid. I am hearing this odd rattling noise from the center console, it's almost like two wires touching. The noise comes mainly at low speeds and mostly what it seems like on the hybrid train.
I took it to the dealer who is saying they hear no noise or normal hybrid noise. Since this car is supposed to have a super quite cabin I am wondering if I am being taken for a ride (figuratively) .
Having problems with center console not shutting properly? A few days ago out of the blue it would not shut, almost as though something was blocking it. If I push really hard it clicks shut but when I go to open it again it takes a lot of unusual force to open.
View 8 RepliesOk, I can live with little things like the drivers side pillar not being completed seated and flush, or the drivers seat rocking a little from time to time.
But the thing that annoys me the most is the center console armrest lid squeaking every time you lean against it. I drove 3 SFS's before I bought mine. All of them squeaked.
Any fix for this to stop it from squeaking? Besides going to the dealer and getting the run around.
My 2010 prius is making a strange sound, and has been since day one.
It makes a "Clicking" sound sometimes that can be heard inside the cabin and sounds like it is coming from the center dash. It is definitely NOT a squeaky dash or door panel or anything like that. It is definitely electrical in nature. It almost sounds like a very fast clicking relay or maybe another electrical component. It is fairly high pitched (not like the inverter whine, though) and definitely clicking (maybe buzzing), not constant. It sort of sounds like a cricket. I am working on adding some audio/video to this post, should have some up today.
Here are some things I have noticed about the noise:
1. Only happens when gas pedal is depressed, not when braking or coasting.
2. When the display is in "Eco" it happens loudest and consistently when the bar is 3/4 of the way full, but it can happen (although the clicking is slower and less consistent) at 1/2 or just before the power section of the bar.
3. The car must be "warmed up" i.e. doesn't happen right away, car must be driven for 10-15 min if engine is cool.
4. Seems to be happening more/more quickly after starting the car in the hotter weather (I purchased my car in Feb.)
The 40 of my 60/40 split seat rattles. If I fold it down it doesn't make a sound. I notice the rattle when going over bumps/cracks on the various Canadian roads. I did some investigating and found straps underneath the seat. One seems to have snapped off. What the straps are for? They are hooked to a bar half way underneath the seat and go to the back of the seat.
View 19 RepliesI have 2013 Prius, small Jerk and make "click" sound when I go from Park to Neutral.
It happen Only first time in morning, the temperature is about 78/82 degree F. So its not cold issue after that It runs little bit, like grocery store or gas station no Jerk or no sound.
It has 42000 Miles now.
I have been getting a loud, high-pitched mechanical-sounding noise coming from the middle of the dash, near the CD player. It lasts only a few seconds, but it scares the sh!t out of me every time! It happens out of the blue after I've been driving for a few minutes about every 3 weeks or so. The sound is almost impossible to describe...but if you've had it happen you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. It happened today while I was listening to a CD, so I can't imagine it's the player that's doing it. Non-Nav/Air V8
View 1 RepliesI bought the 2013 GS 350 F-sport thinking it would be a long lasting reliable car.... I've had brake squeal since day one. My car now has 45k miles on it, all miles driven with the insanely loud brake squeal. It's been to the dealership many times but they've change the brake pads only once and refused to resurface or swap the rotors. After I called Lexus corporate and filled a case, I finally got the managers attention. (1800-25lexus for those in need)
The manager tells me that the brake squeal can be caused by the drivers driving pattern. He basically said that if you don't drive hard enough or maybe even drive too hard, the rotors will glaze over and you will get squeal. -so let me get this right, I have to drive a certain way all the time so I don't get brake squeal? - Long story short, he asked me to come in again so he can see the squeal himself.
Aside from the brake squeal..
-My front and rear passenger side shocks blew out and were replaced at 20k miles.
-I've had a rattle in my passenger side dash since 10k miles that the dealer refuses to fix. They say trying to fix it will cause more rattle.
-My back up camera is now pointing too low. Every time I go in for a fix it just ends up happening again after the fix.
-My rear view mirror is loose.
I can deal with the small things but that damn brake squeal is so loud that it actually pierces my ears when I brake next to a car with my windows down.. Brake squeal has now started on my sisters 2014 is350 f-sport as well. How I can fix the brake squeal so I can sell the car?
