Was under the hood today and noticed the coolant tank is completely empty. Car hasn't overheated or anything...just odd that it apparently wasn't filled correctly from the factory. It should be in the middle of the high and low markings, correct?
View 60 RepliesI just purchased a 2015 sonata last Friday from a large non Hyundai dealer. An hour ago while upgrading my headlights i noticed the coolant reserve tank was completely empty. I am going to check the main radiator level tomorrow because the engine was still hot at the time. I am hoping it is not a blown head gasket, i did remove the oil cap and noticed a very small amount of greyish oil in the cap threads other than that it looked good directly under the cap and inside the hole. Should i call my local Hyundai dealer or just fill the tank back up? I am wondering if it just burned off over time and the original owner never filled it back up. Also what type of coolant is compatible?
View 6 RepliesI was driving my 2008 Santa Fe last week (before I went on vacation) and noticed the the A/C wasn't coming through quite a cool as usual (almost felt like the vent was on w/ no AC). Then after about 10 minutes of driving I noticed the thermostat on the car get to about the 3/4 line pretty close to the red lines.
Luckily I was home so turned the car off and popped open the hood. I noticed the reservoir tank was empty and there was some coolant that dripped down on the fans & a small pool of coolant on the engine block right under where the oil is poured. (nothing has been dripping under the car)
I added a little coolant to the reservoir tank and the next time I turned it on and let it run for ~10 minutes, it was the same thing.
Anyway, I came back from vacation and opened the hood to try and identify exactly where the leak was, and ran the car for ~30 minutes, with A/C on full blast and the car didn't overheat or leak anywhere. Coolant tank was still full from when I filled it the first time.
What could have caused the leak/overheating in the first place?
It has happened to me several times.. The car asks me for coolant but today the reservoir was almost completely empty... I have no leaks and my cooling systems is working fine so where does the coolant go?
View 6 RepliesI just noticed this morning that the coolant tank (close to radiator) is empty. The other coolant tank level is normal. Big surprise! I thought they are connected, and coolant can flow between them.

I was checking my oil and I noticed the reservoir tank was half empty, so I assumed it was nothing out of the ordinary since it's a 17 year old car. When I filled it though, it came pouring out of the tube that sits right under the tank. I'm capping it off every day before I drive and it holds, but it's definitely got a slow leak. It seems to only hold it for 4 days of driving for an hour. My temperature gauge stays at the normal level, but you can smell the antifreeze burning and the engine's running hot. I'm not too mechanically inclined, but what could be wrong with it? I've recently installed a new alternator and clutch cable and found out my valve cover gasket is leaking. I really want to save this car instead of getting a new one.

Looked inside radiator and coolant level was about 1 inch to 1.5 inches below bottom of rad. cap would be...approx. level with rad. seam, where black plastic top of rad. attaches to metal portion of rad. I filled expan. tank to "cold fill" line. Kept an eye on it while doing light, around town driving. The expan. tank level (cold-fill) didn't change.
Friday, my wife returned from work (30 mi., interstate drive). After being parked for 45 mins, went out to find fluid puddle at very front of car. Expansion tank was empty. Looked in radiator, and it was about one inch to inch and a half below bottom of rad cap...about level with rad seam, where the black plastic top is attached to metal. I topped off the rad. this time, along with filling expan. tank to cold-fill line. Turn car on, and after warming up coolant starting coming out from what appeared to be the seam at the top of the rad., where the black plastic portion meets the metal part of the rad.
I have a 2006 3.5L Sante Fe. and i noticed there were coolant drips under the car and that my coolant reservoir was empty. In the engine bay below what i assume is the water pump i noticed the coolant pooling (See Photos). I am not sure if the seal is bad where the top radiator house connects to the water pump (circled in red, or if the thin metal line (circled in Blue) sitting in the coolant pool would have anything to do with it, since it seems to trace back to the radiator.
View 4 Replies2008 Santa Fe 2.7 105k miles Timing belt replaced two years ago at 80k miles I have no smoke, no sweet smell, no milk on oil dipstick, oil looks as clean as honey, no crustiness anywhere, no wet spots under hood or car. Yet my coolant reservoir was empty when I did my last oil change two mos. ago. I filled it up then. Today I checked it was just below the min. line. Car runs like a top, but I'm going to have a pressure test done today. I thought head gasket issues were very rare in these cars.
View 17 RepliesWell, just got back from my dealer - had them check into why after driving approximately 20 miles my fuel gauge registers 3/4 full. They said it has nothing to do with the cluster gauge everything checks out as accurate. My vehicle had the ECU 293 update applied at production. According to them is it because there is something preventing my fuel tank from filling all the way up. According to the service rep when the pump clicks off, my fill up is about 3-5 gallons short.
When I took delivery of the vehicle I noticed that the distance for the remaining (full) tank of gas read around 384. I've never seen that number again. Now when I do a fill up the best tops out at 310 or so. Where exactly did my 70+ additional miles until empty go?
They opened a case for my vehicle with Hyundai and said that Hyundai is already aware of this problem and they are working on a repair.
My wifes santa fe 2.0t has been a pain.
When turning the car off a popping noise comes from under the gas tank area. The dealer heard in months ago and said its normal. It's still doing it. What could this be?
I also find that her emissions seems to smell very strong when the car is idling in the lane way and the door is open even when the car is warmed up.
I find her rear suspension really rough as well. When she takes bumps in the road the rear suspension hits them hard causing the car to bang when she hits them.
Her gas mileage is 13.4 regardless of driving lightly in the city.
Maybe im just anal but Is any of this normal?
Have issues filling the santa fe? when I start filling, if i press the nozzle fully, it keeps clicking off on me. Even if I try to half press it, it still clicks off periodically. It's a real PITA, especially in the winter. 2013 Sport.

What this is, and if it's leaking as it appears to be and if a choad can fix it, or if a certified mechanic must be engaged.
It seems to be dripping all along this clam shell along these star nuts.

Gas light came on yesterday but when I went to fill the tank... Gas would not go in and the tank acted as though it was full, spitting the gas back out.
I propped the valve open for 15-20 minutes and when tried to fill again, it allowed me to pump gas. Is this a serious issue that I need to address immediately? What if I never let tank go below 1/4 full?
I had my oil changed at 65k and i checked it at 67k and it was completely empty. On top of that, my car didn't even notify me (not sure if vw does that)

What is the easiest way to empty the gas tank in an '01 Accent GS 1.6 auto without dropping the tank? The gas in the Accent tank is doing no good if I can't drive it, so I wanted to drain it and put it in my Camry. I was thinking of pulling the fuel pump and siphoning from there?
View 2 RepliesThe wife and I bought a 2014 Santa Fe 2.4 FWD back in August and so far we are pretty happy with it. A few issues have come up in the first couple months of ownership.
1) The dreaded squeak from the rear passenger side started a couple months ago. I’m going to try the easy fixes first (adjusting the tailgate stops, etc) then take it to the dealership if that doesn't work. I hope they don’t have to do the spot weld fix but if that’s what it is, oh well.
2) Another issue that just came up as of recently is that it’s leaking coolant out of some strange fitting on the front o
"93 TS. I'm coming again with this mystery: I fill the windshield washer tank full.....and without any known reason, after a long trip...without any use of the washer...the tank goes empty. I've tested everything: disconnect the pumps electric supply, testing the tank for leaks, testing the pump seals for leaks.....all with flying colours. I just know that for no reason (that I can imagine) ...the tank goes empty.
I have theorized that vacuum created by speed at the rear of the vehicle would suck fluid from the rear nozzle !!! ...but have not verified that theory by pinching the rear feed tube....I should try.
Its been happening often where it shows empty (when i really have half a tank) and my avg mpg resets itself. As I am driving it will go back to normal.
