Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: What Is The Normal RPM At 65 Mph
Sep 15, 2015
My 2009 Santa Fe with V6 runs a little under 3000 rpm at 65 mph. Is this normal? Seems a little high. No other problems with the engine.

View 6 RepliesSo my oil doesn't leak when it off it will only leak when it's at normal driving temperate it is coming from the cast piece that my oil pan (the plastic piece) is on... Where it connects to the actual motor... Any clue what it would be? BTW it is a 2011 Santa Fe

I've noticed that as the weather has gotten cooler my heater just doesn't heat up at all under normal driving conditions. I can see the actuators moving at the back of the unit and the car seems to get up to temperature fine.
When climate control is set to auto the A/C seems to come on intermittently which I find quite odd even when I have the temperature up quite high. If I leave the car in park and rev the engine heat will start to come through the vents, but this doesn't really represent normal driving conditions.
I have noticed small patches up water under the car when it's parked, so assumed there was a water leak, but when I top up the water it quickly overflows. So I'm thinking it might be an airlock maybe?
I'm really stuck, just want to see if there is anything I can rule out before I drop it into a garage to see if they can get to the bottom of it.
I was standing still on a red light this evening i noticed that not all of my driver's side door switches have illumination, is this normal? Take a look at the picture.
View 4 Replies2011 SE leased in December 2010. I Now have 14,000 miles and my trans has started to slip.
First slip was yesterday on a a fully warmed motor while I was accelerating at a normal rate of speed. I am guessing the car was in 2nd gear (25mph) and the rpms shot all the way up to redline. I let off the gas, coasted for a few seconds and the trans engaged the gear and I kept driving. No cel
Today the same thing happened under the same conditions but this time when the trans re-engaged the gear, the car jerked forward pretty violently.
About 15 minutes later this happened again but at highway speeds (65mph) while cruising. Again, violent jerk and a thump when the trans caught the gear.
After all this I have no CEL. I know if I bring the truck to the dealer they are going to give me the old, "we cant reproduce the problem." Once the trans starts to slip like this the damage has already been done and its just a matter of time before I am stranded on the the side of the road.
My '08 2.7 has difficulty starting in the morning. It makes the normal cranking noises but won't fire up immediately. I typically let it try to catch for 5-10 seconds, pause, and try again. Then I wait a minute, try again, and everything starts fine. Then it'll start normally the rest of the day.
Pardon my ignorance, but isn't there some sort of compartment that holds fuel into the engine with a check valve that keeps it from releasing back into the tank? Could it be that this valve is leaking?
Or does it sound like I need a whole new fuel pump? I tried to find schematics, but had no luck. I tired hmaservice.com, but I'm not willing to install the Adobe SVG app (obsolete and security risk) to view the documents.
I noticed my Hyundai steering wheel was off centre about 20 degrees to the left so I took it in for an alignment. The toe was out and the inside left front tire was worn. The alignment is now spot on and I rotated the tires putting the slightly worn to the rear. When I accelerate now the steering wheel turns to the right. If I try to straighten the steering wheel while accelerating the vehicle veers sharply to the left. Odd is while accelerating it drives straight even-though the wheel is approximately 20 deg to the right now. When I let go of the gas and maintain constant speed the wheel straightens out by itself. When I first let go of the gas the vehicle will jerk to the right even though the wheel is straightening.
After this driving is ok - no pulling and drives straight. Only during harder acceleration does the wheel turn. I've had the Sante Fe since new and this is really off now. Has 170K km (100K mi). I know it is torgue steer due to some worn part or bushing but have not been able to diagnose easily. I replaced the lower tie-rod ends. Steering feels tighter but the bad torgue steer is still there. I am inclined to replace the lower control arm vertical and horizontal bushings. Ball joints seem ok when testing with pry-bar. I brought it back to the alignment shop and they verified the alignment was ok, everything was tight and could not identify any obvious issues with the suspension or steering components.
I have a 2005 Auto Santa Fe and every now and again the ABS light keeps coming on and also the ABS kicks in during normal braking.
The car was serviced and all brakes changed last Aug. What may be causing the problem.
I've been having ongoing issue with lack of power uphill in my 2005 2.7L Auto and noticed during recent freeway driving that when its in cruise mode the car will shift down through 3rd then into 2nd to maintain cruising speed on a steep-ish slope.
That was with adult driver me and two kids in the car so no extreme load involved.
Does car needs to be in such a low gear at 110kmh/70 mph to cope with a slope?
I have a 2002 Santa fe that will not stop running. When the key is turned off the engine keeps running like normal. I changed the ignition switch yesterday. still have same problem.
View 21 RepliesSo I was driving along at about 50 MPH and came to a normal stop for a red light. Sitting at the light for approximately 10 seconds and feel the engine stumble or possibly misfire.
I immediately look for any idiot lights and see none, however above the mileage range instead of the pages that are normally shown I see:
LIMIT --- MPH
I drove for about a mile and everything seemed fine, I pulled off into a lot and rebooted the car and now everything is back to normal.
My wife was rear shunted badly in her 2016 SantaFe - she is puzzled that the airbags did not deploy. I told her they only deploy front or side if collision hard enough in those areas - am I right ?
View 9 RepliesMy friend has 2008 ES350. His car has problem in Air Conditioning System. Only sometimes not always it pushes normal air, not cooled enough as it should be. He took it to an AC service shop they checked the AC gas it is normal no leaking. They told him there is a faulty sensor connected to the compressor.
View 8 Replies2007 Camry V6: how miles to warm up to reach normal temp?
When i start cold (30 F ) it take at least 5 miles (in town) to reach the ''ALMOST'' 9 O CLOCK mark on the temp gauge or 185 F on my ULTRAGAUGE connect to the OBDII connector.
At 20F outside temp or less : i plug the block heater (cartridge type in the block (not coolant) )
Then when i start the car the TEMP on Ultragauge is 60F after 2 hours on 110 Volts.
Then go to city..........and take the same 5 miles to reach 185F. So same time.
My Question: is it NORMAL that it take at least 5 miles to warm up at 185F. Is my thermostat OK because it is a big (long) job to replace myself and it is cold outside .
Q.: 2 : When i stop the car about 25 minutes (20F outside temp)) the temp is down down below the first white mark on car gauge....... normal or not ?: (if not :maybe the radiator pressure cap?) Never had a japanese car.......my caddy was at normal temp before 5 miles...
I turned on my lights, as you do whilst driving and the main beam came on, it WILL NOT GO OFF no matter which way i turn the switch etc etc etc. Its stuck on permanently, and the blue warning light on the dash board is on and wont go off neither. I have a seat ibiza 1.4 sport 2007 ....
View 2 RepliesI have a 2010 Santa fe that will sometimes not start when using the key. The starter turns just fine but the engine won't fire up. However, with the remote starter it will always start.
The vehicle is under warranty for a few more weeks but the mechanic couldn't diagnose anything because it started just fine in the shop.
New 2012 Santa Fe with factory remote start alarm (installed at the dealer). Had it for a few weeks now. Park it in the garage with our other vehicles. In the middle of the night I wake up to hearing a horn going off at irregular intervals for about 20 seconds. Since this was very sudden and startling to say the least, I waited to see if it would stop before running downstairs with the baseball bat . Also the alarm system on the home was not tripped so I hesitated to jump to that conclusion. So after what appeared to be 20 seconds the horn stopped and I grabbed the key fob and locked the doors twice and heard the confirmation horn beep.
Now about the horn... like i said it wasn't at regular intervals as you so often hear as car alarms have. Instead it was irregular as if someone was just sitting in it and honking the horn as they wished. Second, the horn tone sounded like the loud horn on the Santa Fe. I say this because I've come to learn that all our other vehicles parked in the garage don't have horns as loud as the Santa Fe. This distinction I clearly picked up on from day one. Now at 4 in the AM is it possible I was wrong and it was one of the other vehicles?... possibly I guess, but the likelihood is not since I've had those other vehicles for a long time and this never happened before the Santa Fe.
I was riding today with the windows opened and I felt cold air coming out of the car's vents. I looked down and the A/C was turned on; I shut it. A minute later it turned back on by itself. This happened over and over again until I got home and turned off the engine. Of course, it's now 5 years old, with 58,000 miles on it, so out of warranty. Strangest thing I've ever seen.
View 22 RepliesLike it says, 2007 Ltd. Recently swapped the alternator and changed the fuel sending units. Had a CEL previous for the fuel gauge not working. Fuel gauge works fine now. Had a CEL with no code being thrown? What could it possibly be? I need to get her past smog here soon.
View 10 RepliesI have been following some discussions about a vibration at about 40 kms my has this problem also. I removed my drive shaft this morning and ran it on the hoist at that speed the vibration, noise is gone. I checked the center bearing and u-joints , the front u-joint has a tight spot. It appears the u-joints are not serviceable ,whole drive shaft replacement??
View 5 RepliesSanta Fe ? Intermittently the interior fan will come on by itself. I turn it off, and sometimes it will just turn itself back on.
When it was cool it was the defrost but now it's the A/C. It doesn't do this all the time and is no big problem. I ride with windows open most of the time, even in Summer. It just is a bit annoying.
