I have a 2007 Santa Fe GLS with about 68k. Starter her up this am and smelled a very strong odor of gasoline in the cabin. I check my garage floor and didn't see any leaks. Drove it for a few minutes and the smell went away. What might be causing this?
View 1 RepliesI have a rernote starter installed on my '07 SF 3.3. It will leave the engine running for 18 minutes before shutting off. If I get into the vehicle after it has been running for over 10 minutes or so, there is a strong odor of gas inside.
Where I might look for where it is coming from? If I remember to leave the vehicle in "recirculate" mode the night before, the odor is less, but my wife and I drive it equally so often the recirlcualte button will not be pressed.
Not sure if there is a leak somewhere (no other signs of a leak or gas odor while driving), or if this is "normal"...
I have a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with 83k on it. For some months now, I have always been smelling strong fuel scent in the cabin. I took it to the workshop and was told it's my fuel canister so i handed money to the Mechanic to buy one to replace it. He called back to tell me he cannot get one to but can work on it by blocking the pipes or lines. I am not that convinced because i know the canister is there for a purpose so if he goes ahead to block the pipe or whatever, then it means something else can go wrong in the interim; but I'm in a quandary now and want that fuel scent to stop.

I was driving to work this morning through a snow storm and needed to use my washer fluid for the first time. As soon as I turned it on the entire cabin was filled with that smell. Could this be a leak?I thought it was all confined within the engine compartment so not sure why I smell it immediately upon using.
View 14 RepliesBought this 2010 ES 350 before last winter, never use the air-con until last week. After the air-con was turned off, here comes the odor! The fumes were so bad that I had to open up all the windows. Did take out the air filter to clearn, but odor still come back after air-con was turned off.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2007 Sante Fe. When I fill the tank (not even totally full) the car will have a fuel smell. The odd thing is that is comes more from the front part of the cabin, and only happens after filling up.
I have been very careful to make sure it is not about stepping in gasoline then getting in the car. It has been to the dealer twice for close to 3 weeks total. They smell it but cannot figure it out.
Parked on a slight decline in my driveway and after I moved the car, a 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD, there was a spot caused by condensation dripping from the AC, but in the middle was a thick very black oil spot about 1 inch in diameter, checked other areas where the car was parked and no spots or very small drip spots the same dark color, also there is an "oily odor" in the cabin that is intermittent when running the AC.
View 3 RepliesYesterday afternoon, after a 90 minutes stop and go commute, a strong gas smell developed in the cabin of my 2009 LS460. The factory call-back service was performed on the car few months ago.
During yesterday's long commute, the LS460 passenger side wheels run over some garbage on the high way at high speed, and after that I can hear some noise from passenger side, sounds like a flag's flopping sound.
Other than that, recent incidents that I can think of that might be related are:
1. All 8 control arms of front wheels replaced about 3 weeks ago
2. Have been using Sam's Club premium 93 gas for the past 4 weeks

View 1 Replies2007 santa fe Had the engine replaced run very well . Every couple of days i get the PO455 code. Replaced the gas cap. Try to use my sense of smell to find the location of the leak . No odor of gas fumes. Spent an hour trying to find it. Will consider smoke test but wondering if it might be the vapor pressure sensor. Is it at the top of the gas tank, how do i get it it? Its the only code that comes up.
View 18 RepliesI am getting a raw constant raw gas odor from under the hood - and in the cabin with the ventilation on. This happens whenever the engine is on - hot, cold, at start up or 50 miles down the road. No visible leaks, no drips - nothing. My lousy Honda dealer found nothing. Pressure check on the fuel system was fine,no leaking hoses, no check engine light, no codes. Smell seems to be coming from the behind the engine on the left side (looking at the engine from the front) - behind cylinders 1 and 2. 125k EX V6.

Just recently bought this car (3 months ago) and I have had lots of issue with it already. I topped off the tank that same week and it started to leak gas right under the gas tank (driver side in front of the rear wheel).
No engine light came on. It leaked for couple of days for about an hour after I park the car then it would stop until I drive again. It did that for couple of days until the gas level went down to 2/3 then it stopped. Since then I stopped topping it off and it hasn't leaked.
However I always smell gas even when its not leaking. When I go around the car the odor comes from right in front of the rear wheel (driver side).
Prior History: This car was rear ended before and fixed up by the prior owner. The seller told me that he had recently replaced the fuel pressure regulator that week.
I took it to the mechanic and had them do a smoke test. They couldn't pin point the leak so they recommended replacing the entire fuel tank for $1800. I walked away and thought I would just keep the fuel level low and keep driving. However the gas smell really bothers me because the car is parked in the garage and the gas odor builds up to unbearable condition.
What could cause this issue? Does this has anything to do with fuel pressure regulator that was replaced? Anything to do with fuel pump because of the rear end accident or loose seal in that area? Do you think it is necessary to replace the whole tank for this?
I have leased a new Hyundai Elantra Limited 2012. We have noticed a very strong odor in the trunk. We have removed all the trunk mats and spare tire insulation trying to air them out and the smell still persists. It smells like something is burning or has burnt near the wheel wells or the back fold down seats. How to get rid of it?

For the past few months, I have been noticing a faint gasoline odor both in my car and around my car after it has been running for awhile. And yes I have checked and it is not on my shoes or floor mats. The car does not smell until I get off the interstate etc... At first I thought it was another car around me that is giving off the odor but after many trips without cars near me, I can smell it and my passengers notice it too. It does not seem to happen when it is full, usually only around a half tank or less. I checked all around and under the car for any signs of leaks and found none, just wafts of gasoline odor. My MPGs is not off so I must not be leaking too much but the odor is getting worse.

Haven't had this smell before. Seems like it drives normal. Don't get to drive it everyday anymore. Only on weekends as my wife take the Treg to work now.

View 4 RepliesI've just purchased a 2010 F-150 scab 4x4 with the 4.6 3v. When I have the air conditioning on drawing air from outside I get a strong gas odor in the cab. Originally I thought it was natural gas, but then my wife mentioned she too smelled gas, gasoline. If I use the recirculated air the smell goes away, almost instantly. Additionally, there is a faint odor of gasoline outside of the truck as well, but not nearly as strong as in the cab. There also is a ticking sound coming from the top of the engine, I believe the egr solenoid. Could these two issues be related? Either way, what are the possible causes of this smell? What are the fixes to these possible causes?
View 2 RepliesI'm experiencing a weird problem with my 09 Santa Fe (just under 15k miles). A few times, while in slow and heavy traffic (and ONLY then) I experience a hard jolt or jerk. The 1st time it happened I thought someone had hit me in the rear but that was quickly ruled out.
I suspect this has something to do to do with the tranny. Though it occurs maybe once or twice monthly, I am beginning to have concerns and suspect that the problem will get worse with time.
Yesterday, after having driven the car twice, I got in it to move it, and it would not start. It almost turns over, but never reaches a start, until the dash prompts me to to STOP. I also notice a stong gasoline smell when I get out of the car. What this might be?
