I have recently purchased an Hyundai Santa Fe 2006 2.2 diesel (Mk2).
I am experiencing a rattle when the car is out of gear. First heard it this morning. When I am in Neutral and I rev the car, as the revs drop back down to idle (700-800 rpm) i get a rattle from about 1000 rpm downover. Seems to disappear when at 800 rpm but not all the time. If I depress the clutch when sound is evident then it disappears.
I have a metal sounding rattle coming from the back of the vehicle. It sounds like it is coming from the hatch area. I removed all loose things (jack) and the noise is still there.
I checked the license plate and put foam behind it, I wrapped the latch with a layer of tape. The noise seems a bit better but still there when on rough roads.
I've not long had my 2007 SF but I noticed that the tailgate area is not as quiet as it should be. There is a definite thump over typical poorly repaired roads in the UK, but there is also a rattle. I thought one culprit might have been the spare wheel since there is a spring which allows some movement. My main focus is the tailgate I was wondering if anything can be adjusted to keep it still.

Has taking off inner door panels fixed the rattle? I read a few threads that made it sound like people just took them to the dealer.
When I go over bumps or rough surfaces I hear a rattle in the rear suspension. It sounds similar to the noise bad ball joints make. I recently had the car aligned and the shop said they couldn't find anything wrong. I'm going to take a look myself but was wondering if this might be a common problem. If maybe there are certain bushing that are known to wear out.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2011 santa fe limited with the 3.5 and 35k miles that has a noisy timing chain rattle upon start up after sitting for a few hours,it's my understanding that the cause is no oil pressure to the tensioner because the oil drains back into the oil pan after sitting for a while. Is there a solution for this situation like a spring loaded tensioner-it seems to me that replacing the tensioner and chain does not solve the problem.

I've isolated this rattle down to the cam phaser( CVVT) in the right cylinder head. It rattles bad for 2-3 secs on cold start or after it sits for 3 hours.
I've put in 5w20 synthetic oil and synthetic Lucas additive and it cleared up the noise for short interval start ups.
I changed the cam phaser in the right head with a used one ( 40k ) but it didn't make a difference. I should change out the attaching cam as well.
I have a strange rattle that I can't isolate. It only happens when the outside temp exceeds 55 degrees. Once November hits, the noise goes away until April. From the driver's seat it sounds like it is coming from the dashboard. Others in the car have said that it sounds like it is coming from the driver's seat. The noise is intermittent and only happens when the car is moving and is vibration related. I have tried to isolate with a wireless microphone and cannot find where it is coming from.

Put it in gear and drove and it goes away. When at idle if you rev the car it goes away.
Mechanic seems to think it could be clutch as it vibrates the gearbox, but sound seems to be more prominent around the engine, my thoughts were maybe a loose timing tensioner.
Clutch replacement is very expensive.
I have a 2012 Santa fe SE that with 22k miles on it. I have developed an annoying rattle in the back driver side door. I have gone around all of the doors with a screwdriver and tightened up everything but this rattle persists when driving on moderately rough roads. As odd as it seems I believe it also occurs more frequently on smooth roads when going around a left curve.
View 10 RepliesSo my wifes 07 93k miles started to make a strange knock rattle noise. It sounds like the knock some on here have when the water pump was going out. It only happens when the car is on, in gear ( drive or reverse) brake pressed And AC ON. The engine begins to vibrate under the load and the rattle begins. Sounds like you its coming from behind the alternator under the valve cover. Once I place it park.... or turn the AC off it goes away. It idles fine. Quiet And Smooth. But once I place it year it comes back!!
View 1 RepliesI have a 2011 SF 2.4L FWD GLS with 79k miles. I replaced the OE struts and shocks 3 weeks ago with Monroe OE Spectrum struts and shocks. This improved the ride tremendously especially on the front passenger side where the strut was leaking.
After driving it for 3 weeks I still feel a little rattle or clunk when driving over ruff roads at slow speeds. I did check the ball joint and wheel bearings while I was in there, and I am certain they are not the source of the noise. I also checked the strut mount when I transferred it to the new strut, and while it appeared and felt ok I think it is the most likely cause of the remaining rattle and clunk.
Any aftermarket strut mounts for this particular model year? I have looked at RockAuto and they have a Moog Part # HYSB9816. This part claims it is for the European builds. Is there really a difference for this particular part?
Santa fe limited V6 will not go above 2nd gear. It will fall into failsafe mode. The motor will just rev up and not accelerate past 20-30mph. Have already done transmission flush and changed Input and Output speed sensors however the problem still exists. Where to go next before I send it off to repair shop. I don't remember the codes but it was described to me as no output from 4th gear .
View 4 RepliesMy 2010 Santa Fe's transmission has been smooth since the TCM update except there's always a clicking sound when the speed first reaches 30 km/h. The sound only happens once during each trip. It seems like it only happens when the fluid is cold. Once it's warmed up, it's fine.
Yesterday all of sudden I feel something is dragging my car. I noticed RPM is over 2000 when the speed is only about 60 km/h. (not mile). And the ECHO light is not ON. So I shift to '+/-' mode and the display shows 4. I guess it means it's in 4th gear. I shift up to 5th gear and RPM drops right away. ECHO light comes back ON. So is this a symptom of 2010 Santa Fe transmission?
I also feel my brake pedal is very stiff when this happens. And the brake pedal has not much travel distance. If the brakes are dragging car down, can this cause the transmission stuck at low gear?
Finding a solution to my problem with Santa Fe, the gear gets stuck up on the 3rd gear. I have changed all the solenoid and it is still the same.

View 4 RepliesBought ours in Dec 2011 with about 36k miles from a Hyundai dealer. I like the select feature on the transmission. Any software change that would display the gear while in "D" mode. The suv seems a little top-heavy for aggressive driving so I don't. The wife likes the ride height. We pull a trailer periodically so we chose the v6 but only getting about 22.5 mpg daily maybe 26 on the interstate doing below 70. Happy with acceleration. Would be interested in possibly going diesel.

View 4 RepliesWhine that I am getting coming up from below the gear stick ,is certainly seems that it is a noisy bearing as noise stops when car does so I think it may be the bearing mounted in the rear of the casing/gearbox just in front of the rubber coupling but the dealer cant seem to find it in his parts list.
