I have run in to this a few times over the years with different cars. Don't think it is the Gas Stations Pumps. When I try to fill up gas....it clicks off, like it is full but no were near full.
View 11 RepliesMy '97 Explorer is struggling to take on fuel at fuel fill. Started all of a sudden...At gas station last week I inserted nozzle and attempted to fill tank as I normally do. It would not accept fuel at a fast pace. It keeps clicking the gas pump trigger off. I keep squeezing and it keep clicking of every 1-2 seconds!! What can this be? What steps can I take to analyze before I start replacing parts at random?

So two fill-ups ago... the mileage range on the display showed like 410 miles, when I usually get ~380 miles.
The next fill-up said 380 miles, which was normal; but the tank was near empty at 340 total miles (driven + miles left). Noticed that gas cap "sticks" when tightening to 1-click. Used to click freely and "unclick". Now, it kind of makes a muted click and I have to manually back it up a little for a muted "unclick",
I fill-up the last time, and it says 340 miles range, and the needle was showing only ~7/8 of a tank. Driving it for a day and the total range (driven + miles left) is ~315 miles.
So... is the fuel level sensor (or whatever does that) broken? Is the filler neck damaged? Is the tank vent clogged? Is my gas cap messed up? Hopefully it's not something wrong with the engine or something.
I have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.
The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.
There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.
I found the one way valve at the filler neck that seems to be installed backwards and turn it around, now fuel flows much faster and no clicking mid fueling.

It was pointing in the opposite direction as it is now.
Trying hunt down an annoying noise.. clicking from the front end when traveling at 30kph.. no noise under or over that speed.
Under the hood and looking around it seems there is an engine mount (front) with vacuum lines?
What is the purpose of that?
CV's fine, brakes fine etc.. all checked and not the source of the noise.
I have a 2008 sante fe 3.3 the water pump is leaking. I have the replacement pump, however I'm not sure how it is designed to come out due to clearance issues. It's easy enough to unbolt a pull loose, however clearance between the car frame and pulley is 1/4 inch. How does it come out of the compartment?
View 6 RepliesMy wife's 08 santa fe had its fuel pump replaced 2 weeks ago and has been smelling like gas ever since. I thought this would go away but it hasn't. Should I demand it be towed back to the dealer tomorrow?
View 2 RepliesWhen I started engine, I heard the high pitched squealing noise for 10~30 seconds. The noise was from the power steering pump. The noise changed by turning steering wheel. I did drain & refill 4 times with Preston dino base PSF & turkey baster. Next week cold day, the same noise was still there, so did drain & refill 5 times again with Preston PSF, but the same noise again.
A week ago, 3rd refill was with MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF that I had in my garage, more than 1 liter drained & refilled. Today at -15 C(=5 F), the noise came back for 5~10 seconds. I feel MaxLife(synthetic base) is better than Preston(dino base), but still several seconds noise make me worry about my power steering system.
Am I the only one hear the noise? Is this noise the start of the pump failure? Is this normal for the extreme cold winter?
The gas pump keeps shutting off when I try to fill my '95 Saturn, like it would when the tank is full, even when the tank is empty. This is a recent phenomenon, and it does it at every gas pump. I have to keep pulling the handle to get gas in the tank. I took off the filler tube and checked both it and the vent line. Both are clear. What could be causing this?
View 2 RepliesMy 2007 Hyundia Santa Fe has an erratic knocking/clicking sound when idling & has for about 6 months or so. Other than the clicking noise it drives just fine. I am wondering if this may be a result of a bad oil change experience I had in 2012. I'll explain ....
When driving home, once the car had warmed up, my oil pressure warning light came on whenever I came to a stop or idling. I thought this was strange but thought maybe it had to do with new oil fill & would go away.
All I knew was I didn't have the problem before the oil change - nor have I ever in all the time I have owned the car - seen the oil pressure light come on and stay on once the car is started. So I brought the car into Hyundai as soon as I could to explain the situation. They opened the oil filter compartment and quickly realized that whoever changed the filter neglected to put back a part that sits on top of the filter that regulates the oil pressure (only a $15 part without which the damage & cost of driving without is potentially huge).
There is more, but I think you get the drift. So, I am wondering if possible damage as a result of that faulty oil change might have something to do with my current problem or is it not possible given the time/km between when that happened and now? The car had just over 80,000 km at the time and currently has aprox 105,000. I have properly maintained the oil etc since that as well as prior to.
Power door locks are supposed to activate when the vehicle accelerates to a certain speed from starting the car but mine suddenly started clicking 4 times on-off-on-off every time the vehicle accelerates from every stop or near stop. It's been doing this for 2 weeks and is getting annoying in stop and go traffic.
I have clicked the lock switch on the driver's door to ensure that it works and is not stuck but not sure what else to check. I also made sure that all doors are closed correctly and no ice or snow in them.

Everything about my '08 2.7l Santa Fe seems/drives fine, but it always has a light clicking noise when idling and maybe even at higher revs. Is a little bit of this clicking normal or does the valve clearance need to be inspected and/or adjusted?
View 3 RepliesThis weekend I noticed that my 2009 Sante Fe has developed 3 distinctive clicking sounds when I'm driving into a turn. It seems to be coming from the front end of the car.
To expand on this further, if I'm at a complete stop/or a slow roll and I give it gas and turn either left or right, I can get the car to make 3 clicks sounds.
Today, it seems that these clicks are more frequent and louder.
What this could be? Either way, I'm going to schedule an appointment at my dealership.
I noticed the coolant was a little low in the reservoir. Took a look at the water pump and noticed a light coolant stain around it. It is a V6 with only 55,000 miles. Second owner, so no warranty. It seems a little unusual to have it start to go so soon, but it is what it is. I will put in a new one and change the belt while I am at it. What brand pump and coolant to use? Are there any good threads on changing a water pump, or is it pretty straight forward?

I see it on older cars, something about charcoal pellets, but not on new cars. Could this be charcoal pellets on this car? The car is still new, why would this happen?

Its quiet if I am going straight, but it sounds like there is a linkage loose. Its not too loud or noisy, but having problems with tierods/knuckle assy?
View 1 RepliesOur 2010 Santa Fe SE V6 just developed a problem where when we turned the key, the car wouldn't start, and there was a loud clicking sound during start attempt. Battery tested 100% OK.
This often points to a starter problem, but a telling symptom was than the headlights would dim, almost going out, along with the dash lights and most any other lamp. If it was just the starter, unless dead short, this associated dimming would not happen. I also put a volt meter on the battery and watched battery voltage during cranking attempt, and the voltage showed minimal drop, so once again the battery was not the problem.
Traced the problem to the ground strap from the battery which terminates to the driver side front wheel well. Two bolts hold the strap to the wheel well, and they are oxide coated and the contact point on the wheel well is painted. This means all the current returning to the battery is essentially passing through the bolt threads and cap where the oxide has been scratched enough to be conductive.
I sanded underside of the bolt heads to remove oxide, sanded the ground strap itself which seemed to have some sort of clear coating, and sanded the paint away from the wheel well where the strap makes contact. I didn't have star washers, but if I did they would have been a good addition.
Car now starts with no problem.
I am concerned with the possibility of corrosion under the strap where I sanded away the paint, but will monitor this. I think the contact between the strap and fender wall is tight enough with the two screws to seal out moisture and oxygen.
I am also going to locate and check any other chassis to engine ground straps so I don't have any new problems in the future.
At seemingly random times when I take my Elantra to the gas station it will only fill the tank about half way before clicking off. After doing some quick google searches I'm leaning towards something being wrong with CCV system. I read that over filling the tank can cause debris to clog the system and a few months back my father-in-law borrowed it he has a tendency to overfill the gas tank. But I've also read that there's an error code that tends to pop up with it and so far there's been none. Either way I'm not familiar with how the CCV and related systems work.
View 3 RepliesI have 2002 Ford Explorer and I have trouble filling it with gas. The pressure in the fill line keeps shutting off the gas pump. I have to slowly drizzle the gas in to fill the tank. Sometimes the problem is better, sometimes worse.
View 4 RepliesCan't fill the tank in my 1981 Chevy 1500 Truck; pump cuts off after 7 gallons. I took the vent tube and the fill hose off and there are no blockages.
