Experienced a noise from the strut when you close the hatch. I tried wd40 on the rod but it really didn't work. Not sure if its the cold weather that's causing this.
View 10 RepliesMy 2008 Santa Fe (3.3 2WD) produces a knocking sound from the front every time I go on a bump while the wheel is turned. I can pretty much reproduce it at will. Occasionally, I hear the same sort knock from the rear as well, but I cannot confirm that it is consistent.
I do suspect that something is wrong with the struts. The only issue is that the car has 67k KM (41k miles), and to me, that seems a little early for that sort of thing to happen. My driving is pretty standard on standard roads, although winters up here tend to produce potholes that I sometimes cannot avoid.
I've had my struts fail on my last car (2000 Mazda Protege), but that was 9+ years old and with almost 3 times as much mileage on it.
I need to replace these as they are weakening. Can I get replacements at my FLAPS or are they a Toyota-only item? I'm asking because on another vehicle, I could not get the strut from a FLAPS due to the length not being a standard length with the proper connectors.

View 1 RepliesMy 2009 santa fe with the 2.7 has a check engine light. p2422 evap vent solenoid stuck closed. I replaced the charcoal canister and the light came back on. I replace the solenoid by the throttle body and the light came back on but took longer to set. My wife said that she was having problems filling the tank but when I changed the second solenoid the problem was gone but the light had returned.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2011 SF 2.4L FWD GLS with 79k miles. I replaced the OE struts and shocks 3 weeks ago with Monroe OE Spectrum struts and shocks. This improved the ride tremendously especially on the front passenger side where the strut was leaking.
After driving it for 3 weeks I still feel a little rattle or clunk when driving over ruff roads at slow speeds. I did check the ball joint and wheel bearings while I was in there, and I am certain they are not the source of the noise. I also checked the strut mount when I transferred it to the new strut, and while it appeared and felt ok I think it is the most likely cause of the remaining rattle and clunk.
Any aftermarket strut mounts for this particular model year? I have looked at RockAuto and they have a Moog Part # HYSB9816. This part claims it is for the European builds. Is there really a difference for this particular part?
What is the part number for the rear hatch strut for the new passat wagons? i need the part # for the ones that has the remote hatch closing. I want to put those struts on my mk5....

View 3 RepliesI got a call from the wife at work telling me the vehicle was making a loud noise when being driven. I told her it was a bit hard for me to diagnose since I was at work and to leave it parked till I got home. She really had to go out so she decided to drive it a short distance and come home.
I got home and discovered the drivers side spring was sitting on top of the inside of the front tire. The spring had done a superb machining job of the tire tread to the point I was amazed that the tire still held air. Anyway long story short the beast is in the shop having both front springs and struts,tires etc. being replaced. The spring actually broke.
I just bring this to the group as I did a search on google and this is not an uncommon, occurrence on these santys. We /she are just lucky this happened at a low rate of speed,as a highway speed incident like this would not have been pretty.
20th Anniversary sat for 2 months and battery was flat when I went to start it today. I jumped it and got it running. However, when I went to close the hatch it will not stay latched. The latch on the hatch is hitting the striker on the lip of the trunk, but it just won't stay shut. Is any part of the latching mechanism electronically or vacuum operated?
View 4 RepliesThe rear spoiler on my 2005 has always had a bit of "flex" to it and I've always been careful not to use it to open or close the hatch. Unfortunately, I can't be sure that others not do that as it really is the place someone would think to grab to close the hatch.
Anyway, the other day I noticed that the spoiler had picked up a nasty rattle whenever the hatch was closed. Looking from the outside in I saw that there appeared to be two plastic fasteners (one on each end) that held the spoiler in place. If I pressed down on one side the other side popped up and vice versa. I was able to get the spoiler back to where it originally was (loose but no real rattle).
The car has never been in an accident and the spoiler doesn't appear to be bent in anyway...it just seems as if the fasteners aren't holding it down as tightly as they should. Is this the norm? Should I replace the fasteners and any instructions on how to do it?
I've gone thru the owners manual that shows the options I can preset via the display audio (don't have nav) and I don't see where it is possible to turn off the beep when the rear hatch is opened/closed. Is this possible?

It's the lock actuator for the rear hatch.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it makes that horrible plastic grinding noise.
I recently bought an 07 Dodge Grand Caravan and noticed that when we shut the rear door(trunk? hatch? whatchamacallit?) it makes an incredibly loud noise...almost like a gunshot. It seems as though the back glass is lifting off a bit and then slamming down. Is that something I can fix on my own?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Camry with Eibach Springs with the stock struts. When I bought the car in '06 the front driver side strut was bad and replaced. This was before the springs. Recently, the other front strut went bad and was replaced. I am no longer a fan of Toyota's suspension parts for this car. In the near future I'd like to replace all four.
Any recommendations on good replacement struts that will work with the Eibach springs. A firmer ride is fine, as long as it is still comfortable. Quietness and durability (long life) are of concern as well.
I only plan on keeping the car a few more years so coilovers and similar products aren't option or worth spending that much money.
I have a rear rattle that I cant figure out had the wheel off and levered and pounded on links bushings etc. How can I access the top strut mounts to check them? Nothing found on youtube. Original struts on rear show no leaks or broken spring. Bouncing car does nothing neither does grabbing the tire at 12 and 6 or 3 and 9 position.

The list is many Prime Choice, Detriot Axle, Unity, FCS, AST, Sensen, ect.... Maybe they all are made at the same factory. FYI Monroe and Gabriel could be made in China. KYB complete units are assembled in USA, I called them up.
View 13 RepliesI just changed to winter tires on my '09 ES350 and noticed that the strut is only about an 1.5" directly above the inside edge of the tire. See the photo, is this normal. FYI, winter tire is 17" and all specs are identical to the original.
View 1 RepliesI have a broken rear strut on my 2009 LS 460 with 27000 miles. First noticed it about 25000 but dealer said it was only the cold weather and all was fine. I had a mechanic friend ride with me and he said I had a broken part in the rear suspension. Back to the dealer and this time they test drove it and diagnosed the broken rear strut. The tech told me that they had recently seen several LS 460's with the same problem. The broken strut causes handling problems and I am reluctant to drive at highway speeds.
The dealer (and all the other dealers I called) said that there are no parts available for the repair and one told me that the last strut had to be brought from Japan.
My 2002 Santa Fe Back Hatch Door will not open. I have removed the inside panel & all the linkage seems to work OK. But the main latch will not let go & I cannot see where to trip it. How I can get it opened, just can't see where to trip it but believe it can be done from inside.
