I got a few clunk noise from front left tire area. I think it happens when I turn my steering wheel to left almost max.
And then, turning back to straight(to right). then, "Clunk"!
Today I got the clunk when I made U-turn on a street. A month ago, I heard it when I parked with fully turned front tires.
1999 Oldsmobile Alero V6 3.4L. Car checked out for a strange noise in my front left tire area, and I don't remember all the technical things they said (I'm definitely not a car guy), but I do remember them saying that my front subframe had rusted out and that I need to get another one ASAP, and that it's dangerous to drive my car at the moment. They said they could get another one for me.
So I've checked around on the Internet, and I found this site: [URL] ....
Is this the right part that I need? Also, is there a list of vehicles that have parts that are compatible with my vehicle? I think certain years of the Pontiac Grand Am and Chevy Malibu are also compatible, so could I possibly search for a Front Subframe from these types of cars as well?
A month I have heard this noise.

Notice a clunk noise when brake applied and first it seems when the car is turning right, but now I think as long as the surface is uneven it would do that as long as the brake is applied at the same time. It's a 2014 Sport Ltd.
View 4 Replies2011 Hyundai Elantra, 42k miles. The car is my girlfriends which I drive once every few weeks. Yesterday I noticed a rumbling noise coming from the right front tire area. The noise only comes about when turning a fairly sharp left while above 20 mph. Taking a left onto a side street etc doesn't cause any noise, but taking one while going through a big intersection etc. Where the speed is up a little bit causes the noise. The tires are original, obviously not new, but they still have a decent amount of tread left on them, they're Continental Pro Contacts.
Tire, ball-joint, brake pad rubbings? I'm going to take it to get looked at tomorrow, I did spray the area with a hose in case there was something caught in there, but that didn't change anything. The tire looks fine, no abnormal wear or bulges, the car is in alignment and makes no other noise except in the circumstance noted.
I have a UK 2006 Mk2 CDX+ which I was driving last night - seemed ok, got to our driveway, turned the steering wheel fully left so I could manoeuvre the car into the driveway when I heard a loud "clunk" noise.
I thought I ran over a bottle or something so carried on reversing, when I got out I noticed the car was parked diagonally! Thought this is strange, I don't park like that and tried again, a bit better but still not parallel! I then noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, a grinding like noise is heard when I turned so I decided I would need to take into the local in the morning.
Started the car today and drove out and got immediate sensation that steering was not connected to the wheels, the SW was off centre by miles and turning left/right was very sluggish. Lucky the garage is only down the road (but it's not Hyundai specialist) from me as I would not risk driving it down main roads in this condition. Guy at garage asked me to fully turn the SW left to right and we can see that the front of the car actually moved during the process. He is going to take it up on the lift to look underneath.
I have a 2011 Sante Fe AWD 3.5L with 22K on it. The last few days I have been hearing this chirping noise coming from the left rear tire when I am stopped. When I am driving with windows closed or open I do not hear it, but when I pull into my driveway or a parking spot I hear it occasionally. Today, since I am looking out for it I get home, get out of the car and go to the left rear wheel well and sure enough it sounds like a chirping noise. Does not sound like it is mechanical and when I look under the car all seems OK. I put my ear right up to the top of the wheel near the well and I hear it. Sometimes it does not happen..
I suspect the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.....
Got a 2007 Santa Fe CM (Europe) with 160k km. I'm currently trying to figure out how to fix the clunk noise in the front of the vehicle. I am aware about the TSB 12-DS-002 where they recommend changing the drive shaft washer, but since that's a lot of work I want to make sure that this is really the problem.
The noise is not always there. Sometimes you can hear the clunk when decelerating, but not always. You can also sometimes hear a clunk when going from D to R. It sounds like a driveshaft has some play, and a change in the direction of the force causes it to slam into the other side. However, you can't feel it, so there is definitely not a lot of force behind it. You can only hear it.
However, I asked some guys to shift between R and D while I'm outside so that I can figure out where the sound comes from. However, murphy's law, it didn't made any clunk. And after shifting between R and D for like 20 times I felt bad for my transmission and stopped it.
The clunk is not always there, just sometimes. It doesn't really make sense to me, if its really play in a driveshaft it should be always there? Also the clunk started at about 155k km, now I got 160k.
Is there any further diagnostics I could do?
My wife has a 2010 Santa Fe with AWD and 40,000 miles on it, and my daughter has a 2008 AWD with 38,000. I don’t drive my wife’s car much but after taking it on a trip I noticed that the front wheels/tires seemed louder than normal, exactly like a bad wheel bearing or when you are running snow tires. I had the tires balanced and inspected and took the car to the dealer sure that there was a front wheel bearing going out but they said it was fine. A week later I was driving my daughter’s 2008, same noise. Tires on both cars are fairly new and don’t appear to have any problems. So, is this common to these cars and considered normal?

I asked them to check it out at the dealership and they say all is fine. Some one said sounded like the strut top plates were loose.
View 11 RepliesI just bought a 2006 (mk2) Santa Fe 2.2 CDX manual.Overall I'm pleased with the car but I have noticed over the past week of ownership a whining noise coming from under the floor area towards the front (I think). The noise only occurs around the 20mph mark ( no other speed) and is there whether I'm in gear or just coasting.The car has done 43000 (so not high mileage) has a full service history and only one owner prior to me. It does have a tow bar (which I wanted) just I case this may be relevant.
View 4 RepliesI've got a 2008 santa fe limited 3.3 awd with about 170000 km on it. Lately when I brake I've been hearing a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the driver side front wheel area.
Had it in to my mechanic who checked the brakes and said that pads/calipers/rotors were all fine. They replaced the passenger side front bearing on the lower control arm a few weeks ago and said there is no play or noise coming from any other suspension components.
Where to look next? My mechanic isn't sure what it is so I was going to take it to the dealer and see if they can fix it. Also had new tires installed about a month ago
So I have an 06 mercury mountaineer it was making a rubbing noise from the rear left tire area so I replaced the bearing took the merc for a test drive and as soon as I applied pressure to the accelerator the TCS kicked off all power and it left like the brakes on the front left engaged (accompanied by some nasty grinding noises). I have taken it apart replaced the hub assembly and the cv axle, nothing looks to be out of place and everything is clean I cant think of anything else it could be..
View 5 RepliesI bought this 2010 f150 from the company I work for, front diff was shot, front drive shaft was in the bed, that's all I knew about the truck so I bought a complete front diff from a used place, it only has 58000km on it, good diff... So I installed the diff and the old front drive shaft, which doesn't seem to be in the best condition, now when 4 wheel drive is engaged I'm getting a constant clunk/binding noise from the front driveshaft area. Where to start looking.
View 2 RepliesI've been having a lot of noise coming from the front left tire, and I finally had it diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing today.
I noticed that the front wheel bearings are sold individually while the rear wheel bearings are sold as hub assemblies. Is there a certain way that the front wheel bearings have to be removed and pressed on? I'm trying to see if this is a DIY repair.
My 2007 Santa Fe with 48K km developed a clunk in the front end that was most noticeable when traveling under 30 km/h. I made an appointment with West Edmonton Hyundai. This was not the dealer I purchased the vehicle from as I moved to Edmonton after I purchased the vehicle. The dealer had it fixed up within 3 hours....both sway bar end links were worn out. Just wanted to point out the good service I got. The entire bill was covered under the standard vehicle warranty.
View 19 RepliesMy mother-in-law moved my car and put the emergency brake on (2010 Santa Fe) when she got out. When I got into drive home, I drove about 10miles with it engaged (for some reason the light didn't indicate it was on). When I got home I noticed a burnt rubber smell from the left rear tire. (no smoke though)
Our driveaway is an incline. After engaging/disengaging the e-brake, the light started coming back on again. If I put the car in neutral and release the regular brakes, it will quickly roll back. If I put the e-brake on in netural and disengage the regular brake, it still holds fine on the hill.
I know the damage can vary, but any test or check I can do to determine the amount of damage?
I have started hearing a noise with my brakes. First thing in the morning when I back up and apply the brakes, I get a clunk or pop noise from the left front wheel. It will pop again once I move forward and hit the brakes. It only does the noise one time when I first apply the brakes in either direction. Once the brakes have been used out on the road and are warm, there is no noise when changing directions. I've had this noise in another car I used to have and it was caused by the aftermarket brake pads not being exactly large enough and there was slight pad shifting in the caliper. Being this is a new car and has the OEM pads, I would hope there would be no pad shifting or movement in the calipers.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2002 GMC Senoma 4WD. I have recently noticed a roaring noise in the area of the left front wheel, The noise is associated with rotation of the wheel. There is no unusual tire wear or shimmy. I rarely use the 4WD however when I engage the 4LO option the noise gets louder.
View 3 RepliesSo for a while now, I've been getting an "intermittent" crackling noise (sounds like walking on twigs or wrinkling heavy plastic wrap) from the left front suspension area. The noise is speed dependent, goes away when stopped and get's faster when the car moves faster. At this point it happens pretty consistently, but sometimes it will go away for a little while and then I'll turn a corner or something and all of a sudden the noise returns. But it happens all of the time, not just when turning corners or braking or whatever.
I've inspected the axle and wheel area and don't see any debris or out of place components that are rubbing or have any signs of wear. This happened with both my summer and winter wheels/tires, so it isn't the tire. My only guess is either the wheel bearing or CV. I'm leaning towards the CV just because of the nature of the noise and also that outer CV was one that tore about 2 years ago and may have been torn for a month or so before I noticed. The CV was cleaned and lubed and boot replaced by my indy, but maybe the CV was damaged.
My 2009 santa fe (about 30k miles on it). I am hearing an intermittent screeching noise from the front right wheel area when driving at normal speeds. It seems like it might be brake-related because the screech stops when I apply the brakes.
I think worn pads should squeal when braking not driving. What causes a metallic screeching when the brake is not applied?
