I have a 2010 Santa fe that will sometimes not start when using the key. The starter turns just fine but the engine won't fire up. However, with the remote starter it will always start.
The vehicle is under warranty for a few more weeks but the mechanic couldn't diagnose anything because it started just fine in the shop.
I am having this giant problem with my 2008 Santa Fe. The battery died and I replaced it and I think that the security system is locking out from starting the car. Step by step of what happened:
1. Connected battery terminals
2. Horn goes off (continuously not beeping)
3. Try and start the car but it does not start. Doesn't turn over nothing at all but the interior and dash lights do work but it does not let me unlock the doors using the button (not sure if that means anything).
4. Pull horn fuse because it's waking up my neighbors.
At this point the car has been sitting for about two weeks, the battery is not connected and I'm really stuck. I've tried connecting the battery, locking the doors and letting it sit for 45 seconds and that didn't work. I replaced the battery in the key fob and that did nothing. My last step was to reach out here and honestly next would be to tow it to the dealer.
Over the past few mornings when I get in my car and start her up, a really strong vinegar smell comes from the vents. What this is and what could be causing this?
View 11 RepliesLast Saturday and today, I drove the car to run some errands. When hot, I turned it off for 5 to 10 minutes. Then it wouldn't start, the starter was cranking strong but the engine didn't start. I tried for 15 minutes with the same result.
Then, I waited for the engine to cool for an hour, it started fine. Both times the temperature outside was around -25 Celsius.
The dealer says he can't do anything if can't replicate the problem. The car is Santa Fe V6 FWD 2011 with 44 000 km.
As appear on the attached video , sometimes the ESP off and ABS lights again at Engine start , and after the switch on checkup. Is that normal , or indicate upcoming issue?

It has only happened 2 times so far. I understand it's normal when it's really cold outside. But it's still warm here. I booked an appointment with dealer next week but I want to knowledge myself before going. Can this be battery? Or starter? I remember there's a common problem on my model that a oil leak will damage the starter. Will that cause this symptom?
View 11 RepliesI just bought a used 2007 Hondai santa fe. 65K. Loved it until four times when I turn key to start the car 'stumbles'. Dealer finds nothing wrong. What I notice today is I did not have my foot on the brake. My 11 yr old Subaru started w/o (not good I know) so I developed a bad habit. So now I wonder if this is not a problem but rather a safety feature and I need to always have my foot on the brake at start.

View 1 RepliesSo for the last few weeks our 2007 3.3L V6 GL is having trouble starting (extended crank). Sometimes it's fine, but other times the engine just turns, so it takes 2 or 3 tries to get it to start.
Initially this seems like a fuel filter issue to me, but these fuel filters are "unserviceable", which I believe means they shouldn't ever have to be replaced (right?). I just had a servicing done at Midas, and they weren't able to tell me what the problem was.
The vehicle has 94k kms (58k miles) on it.
The 2012 SF I bought last weekend has a sticker on the radiator brace near the left head light stating the vehicle has a remote start function and there is a blue button with a key symbol on the fob that (I think) is supposed to make it work, but I have yet to get the remote start to operate. What's the secret? Is there a selection in the ECU that enables/disables it? Do I need to cross my eyes when I push the button? This would be great to have on cold or hot mornings - if I can get it to work.

Turn key to on.
Wait until all the lights and gongs have stopped.
Turn to start for 3 to 4 seconds.
No start.
Turn everything off and repeat 1 to 3 times.
It starts.
I drive a 2007 Santa Fe and my car refused to start after the last the two times I topped up my gas tank.
I am confused and not sure what it could be? Ignition and lights come on, which makes me think it's not electrical. Car also starts up fine between gas station visits. Problem comes up only immediately after I top up. I am able to start up on the second try after I wait a few seconds.
Could I have a clogged fuel line or valve?
I recently had a new coil pack put in my 2008 Santa Fe, about a week ago. Got up for work this morning and it would not turn over. It makes the clicking noise but will not catch. I jump started it and it worked. Got out of work and it wouldn't start again, got a jump start and took it to pep boys where they tested the battery as good. Could it be a shortage somewhere from the previous work done?
View 5 RepliesRecently my 2010 Santa Fe's remote start key fob is not acknowledging a response for any function on it and there is no blue light activating behind rear view mirror. I figure it has to be something fairly simple since it worked just fine last week. I have two remotes and when buttons are pushed I'm getting bright blue lights on both key fobs so I doubt if both batteries are bad, the factory key fob for door locks still works fine. I've read other posts and I'm aware that there is not many fans of the remote start feature. Its been -30 here in MB for far too long and I need this feature to work for me.
View 2 RepliesThe vehicle has 80,000kms, and from a cold start it is having this problem more and more frequently. I must crank the engine 3+ times, and then she starts. A prolonged cranking period doesn't seem to work, and this only occurs when cold. The car starts fine when warmed up. I have scanned the car with a generic OBD2 reader and there are no codes. Once the car is running, it runs great with no misfires.

She was parked in a parking garage on the 3rd level, she started the car up, coming down the ramps of the garage and on the first floor at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled out on her. She went to restart it, but it will not turn over. I come out and tried to start it with no luck. I did notice on the positive side of the battery terminal there was a lot of corrosive discharge. I cleaned that all up, but still no luck. Everything has power, bright interior lights and headlights okay. I originally thought it was just cold or lean... But still won't kick over.

I recently purchased a 2011 Santa Fe SE with the 3.5 V6 Engine. When I start it up for the first time in the morning or after its been sitting for a few hours, the engine sounds likes it's insides are rattling for about 10 seconds or so... I believe the lifters are probably pumping up and it's a valve train noise... but is this normal? I don't like this sound. the previous owner used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and that is what is in there now. Is this a good choice for this engine? Is there an oil filter with a check valve that can be used to hold pressure to the valve train on start up? Is this cartridge type oil filter all that is used on these engines?
View 18 RepliesI drive a 2011 Limited. Three out of the past four mornings the car has been reluctant to start. It is cold out, but not super cold. This morning it was 1C (34F).
When I turn the key, it cranks but does not fire. I Held the key for what felt like forever, but in reality it was probably only 6 seconds. I let go of the key, waited a few moments and then tried again. After the third try, it finally fired and ran normally. It didn't stutter or otherwise seem to have any problems.
At this point I went inside and found my basic scan tool. No codes were stored and the voltage was between 13.5v and 14.6v. After I drove to work, I turned it off. The voltage dropped to 12.1v. When I cranked it again at work, I saw the voltage drop to 9.5v for a second before it fired up and jumped to 13.5v, then 14.6v.
The car has the original battery. Could it be as simple as a battery? Oh, I Just remembered, when the car did start, the radio was off. Upon turning it on, it was reset to defaults. Other than this starting issue that has only recently started, pun intended, and the radio I am having no other issues with the car.
I have an intermittent problem with my 2008 Santa Fe GLS (Canadian model). Sometimes, when I insert the key to start the car, the in-dash key symbol won't come up (while it usually does when everything is fine). When the problem occurs, I have all electrical power and the engine will crank over; The cranking is going very fast but shows no sign of ever turning over and the car will never start. It really looks as if the immobilizer does not recognize the key and so refuses to start the engine. So I have to remove the key, wait some time and try again. Usually, it can take 3-4 times (and up to 15 minutes!) before the key-symbol light comes up again in the dash, and then the engine will start as if nothing ever happened.
This problem occurs approximately once a week, but you never know when. I went to the dealer just for that problem but they had no clue and could not reproduce it, .... so they ended-up doing nothing to fix it. The car also has a remote starter that was installed at the dealer. It usually works fine. But the problem also occurred a few times with the remote starter trying to start the car by itself. I could hear the never ending cranking noise from the spinning starter, until the remote starter stopped for few seconds and tried again. I had to stop the remote starter manually.
