Just owned a 2011 hyundai santa fe AWD(48002 miles). At 50,100miles I start hearing this banging noise from the rear (quite loud) when accelerating. Usually occurs after 80km/h. Also occurs at low speed when you let your foot off the accelerator.
View 9 RepliesI have a 98 Audi A6. Immediately when I hit the accelerator from a dead stop I hear a slight bang that seems to come from under the car in the area under the front drivers seat. It only happens when I hit the gas and the car starts forward. I'm not putting the pedal to the floor either, just a nice gradually start from a dead stop. This is the only time that I hear this noise, nothing while driving or making turns. The noise sounds like when you might squeeze and empty tin box! that distinct bang you hear. What might this be?

Over the weekend, I noticed a weird "humming" noise coming from somewhere in the vehicle (it sounds like possibly from the passenger side and from the interior of the vehicle). I only hear the noise when I accelerate. When I brake, the noise stops, and then picks up again when I hit the gas pedal.
View 46 RepliesI have a 2008 Santa Fe LTD, and just recently started experiencing a strange noise when I am accelerating, and I cannot pinpoint it. Here is some info on the noise.
-2008 Santa Fe LTD AWD, about 25,000 miles
-Sounds like a little higher pitched hum, not very loud
-Seems to be coming from somewhere near the passenger side backseat area (first found out about it when someone was sitting there and asked what the noise was)
-Cannot tell whether it is coming from the interior or exterior of the car, but I think exterior, but it is definitely somewhere along the passenger side, from the back half of the car.
-Noise occurs when accelerating from a stopped position, only when accelerating, never when braking or idle.
-Noise occurs only when car is in gear (hitting the gas pedal in park does not cause the noise to happen)
-Noise doesn't occur at high speeds or when accelerating at high speeds
-Noise only really occurs for a 2-3 seconds while accelerating, then seems to go away as I continue to drive.
-Noise doesn't seem to always happen, but very frequently.
This is going to sound odd but here is the case: When accelerating in car from 0 mph to about 10-15 mph there is a noise coming from the rear. It sounds as if it is coming from the axial or something because it does it once every revolution. But the wierd thing is is that it does it louder when it rains or any moisture is in the air!
We had back right bearing replaced. But still makes noise. Don't think it is rock or tire because it only does it sometimes when speeding up. And does it very loud when raining or humid
I have been hearing a rattling or maybe more a banging clanging sound coming from the right rear of my 2007 3 door accent. It almost sounds like something is loose, but I have never identified anything. The tire tools are secure and there are no loose panels either.
It almost sounds like the strut is banging around. My wife did bend the rim on the right rear a couple of years ago. I thought maybe the sway bar was broke, until I realized this car doesn't have one.
Went out to run some errands this morning, and was alarmed to hear a loud, tinny-sounding banging noise from the rear of the car. It would occur on every bump. little or big; every time I braked; every time I started up from a stop; after each shift to a higher gear; and every time I turned a corner.

I have a 06 touareg v8 air sus, loaded. Today was the first time towing my bass boat with this truck, and on the way to the lake, I keep hearing a weird noise, sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, something like a rubbing banging type noise. At first I thought maybe the factory hitch wasn't bolted on very well, but this is not the case(as I could tell not much to see under there) I tried jumping on the trailer to emulate the sound but this didn't work. Its not the trailer brake, which is a self actuating system, that checked out ok.
View 3 RepliesDid I get bent over? had a banging noise coming from the rear and took it to my regular shop, they told me the leaf spring shackle and hanger brackets were almost rusted thru and one more pothole and I'd be all over the road, so they ground out the rivets and replaced said brackets. I don't have the equipment to do that kind of work but I still feel it was a little high.
View 1 RepliesThis bad squeaking, loose rattling and (sometimes) banging noise from the left rear started happening about a couple weeks ago. I've removed all interior panels, even the exterior bumper thinking there was something loose and nothing. I suspect as a last resort it has to be the suspension despite the car having only 17k km.
What is strange is the rattle increases in sound volume and occurs more often the longer you drive and also if temperatures get colder.
In other words, if I have the car parked in my garage overnight (slightly above 0 C) and immediately drive next morning into sub-freezing temps and on bumpy roads, you don't hear it. But after 5-10 minutes of driving, you start to hear it and gets louder and more frequent.
Searched other threads and some have reported the shock as the problem for 2010/2011 models, but none had any sound or video to compare.

My 1998 Explorer is making a terrible banging noise when driving. It appears to come from the rear. It only occurs when i step on the gas, gives a bang and the car shudders lightly. The bang can be gone for 10 - 30 seconds, and all of a sudden appear again. If I step hard on the gas, it will make a bang! bang! bang! noise.. If let my foot off the gas, it rolls quitely without any noise.
I have greased the slip yoke, inspected the U-joints, checked the rear calipers, opened the rear axle/differential plate - no metal parts or excessive wear were observed.. The transmission runs smoothly, there are no other noises apart from the bang. It is as if someone is hitting the car with a hammer from underneath...
About 3 weeks ago my car,a 2007 saturn vue 6cyc., started making banging noises in the glove box when I start the car. The noise last for about 10 seconds and is very loud. The car runs great, no problems.
View 8 RepliesHaving owned my 2010 Santa Fe less than a week, am learning and listening to any noises and things that go on with the car to make sure I am happy with it. There have been a couple of things that are easy sorts by the Dealer I bought it from, but I am a little worried about a Clonk noise coming from the rear of the boot and is this normal.
Although I didn't buy the car from Hyundai I still have the remainder of the 5 year warranty and the mileage is low, obviously the dealer I bought it from is the first person to speak too, but I think I should get Hyundai to check as they will no more about the car. It may be something simple but don't want to leave it and find out it could be a major problem, as I am worried about it being related to the Self Leveling Suspension as I know this is costly and obviously would want Hyundai to look into while under warranty.
When I am driving along and go over a rut in the road or a hump or something it's like something in the rear jumps and clonk as it comes back down.
Having just got the car the boot is empty and I haven't even found a load cover for it yet, the 2 rear seats are down, checked the tyres and they have been pumped up to the correct pressure.
I have had a look at the tools and I don't think it is anything moving around there and it would make more of a rattle rather than a clonk. I not sure if I have a spare wheel and whether it is located underneath the car as I can't get down underneath and have a look as I have difficulties with bending, kneeling etc.
If there is a problem with the suspension or shocks etc would it make this sort of noise, would I notice anything in the way it drives etc. The noise sounds a lot like it is inside but can't think what it would be, definitely a sort of sound like something is lifting off and clonking back down.

I have a 2011 Sante Fe AWD 3.5L with 22K on it. The last few days I have been hearing this chirping noise coming from the left rear tire when I am stopped. When I am driving with windows closed or open I do not hear it, but when I pull into my driveway or a parking spot I hear it occasionally. Today, since I am looking out for it I get home, get out of the car and go to the left rear wheel well and sure enough it sounds like a chirping noise. Does not sound like it is mechanical and when I look under the car all seems OK. I put my ear right up to the top of the wheel near the well and I hear it. Sometimes it does not happen..
I suspect the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.....
A loud throbbing noise suddenly started last night in the rear speaker of my 2010 Santa Fe. I think the speaker is blown. Can I pull the fuse until I can get this to the dealer? Which fuse? I can not locate a fuse map. I tried #13 and #31 based on an old fuse map online but the noise continued.
The noise is loud and I can't drive with my toddler in the car.
A day before 3 yr service and MOT test on 7 seat 2011 Santa Fe, a noise from the rear offside wheel. Advised the garage to check and they discover the handbrake shoes were detaching from their mountings, not wearing out but detaching. This has apparently happened before causing someone's wheel to lock up and the vehicle recovered to the garage.
Strange that the same garage has seen it before so it must be happening elsewhere.

I've got an issue with my 2007 Santa Fe.... At the first drive of the day, the truck stalls as accelerating. Happens like clockwork and sometimes the stall is so hard that the truck stalls. I've noticed a few things... It happens when there is medium to hard acceleration from stop (1st gear) until when it shifts to 2nd. I noticed the battery and seatbelt light flash during the stall (prob cause truck just died) and then it regains power. If I put the car in manual, it rides 1st gear no problem. If I accelerate very slowly, it shifts normally and continues to drive. This only happens from 1st to 2nd gear. I've replaced the TPS, plugs, cleaned the TB and intake tube.
I have not yet took it to the dealer for the PCM update for the new TPS. What should I try next??? Crank sensor? MAF sensor? Replace throttle body? I also wondered if maybe it was an electrical issue. I've noticed when I drive into a tunnel and the auto lights come on my lights dim and the seatbelt light (no chime) begins to flash. I replaced the alternator about a 9 months ago due to failure. Or is this maybe a tranny issue? This only happens the first drive of the day. As the keep driving and come to a complete stop and continue, it does not stall from 1st to 2nd.
I pulled codes a few months back and it had about 4 codes related to the TPS. I replaced both fuel tank level sensors yesterday and my CEL is gone (truck still stalls).
I'm noticing more and more on the highway when i accelerate that my car seems to pull to one side then when it shifts it snaps back. I'm not really sure if I'm even describing a transmission issue or a power steering issue. Basically, it just seems to pull and snap back fairly strongly, enough to cause a slight swerve as it shifts during acceleration. Where to start on something like this? (no error codes or check engine lights. Also no vibrations or other sounds).
View 11 RepliesMy wife has had her 2010 3.5 Santa Fe since new. Over the past year it's been having a clunk develop when accelerating, happening a few times from a start until highway speed. The clunks almost feel as if one is driving over bumps - that's what I thought at first. The power doesn't seem to be there anymore either. I have been driving her vehicle the past three years and it was fine when I first started driving it. But the past couple years I first noticed a problem and it seems it is getting progressively worse. My wife now notices it quite a bit too.

First slip was yesterday on a a fully warmed motor while I was accelerating at a normal rate of speed. I am guessing the car was in 2nd gear (25mph) and the rpms shot all the way up to redline. I let off the gas, coasted for a few seconds and the trans engaged the gear and I kept driving. No cel
Today the same thing happened under the same conditions but this time when the trans re-engaged the gear, the car jerked forward pretty violently.
About 15 minutes later this happened again but at highway speeds (65mph) while cruising. Again, violent jerk and a thump when the trans caught the gear.
After all this I have no CEL. I know if I bring the truck to the dealer they are going to give me the old, "we cant reproduce the problem." Once the trans starts to slip like this the damage has already been done and its just a matter of time before I am stranded on the the side of the road.
