I have been having a mildew smell when using AC. I purchased a foaming cleaner that is mean to be sprayed by inserting a small tube in the evaporator pan drain, but the design on my santa fe drain hose prevents the tube from making it to the core. It always gets jammed up at firewall because of a 90 deg bend. Is there a port on the housing that allows access to the core?

View 5 RepliesMy wife drives a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited which we bought new back in 09. she has put roughly 140,000 miles in that time span. We have religiously followed all required maintenance routines; this is the first major issue we have EVER had with our Santa Fe. The issue we are having involves the AC unit. Instead of blowing ice cold air, the air vents are blowing hot air as if the heater is on. I have check all major AC components and everything is working properly. I believe we are having a controls issue.
At one point, all vents would only blow hot air. The other day, the passenger side vents started blowing ice cold air while the driver side still blew hot air. The driver's side has not blown cold air since this issue started about a week ago. We do have dual climate control; I have tried every possible combination of controls to see if it's a particular switch or button; however, I have not had much luck.
So I started my car today and when I got back in it about 5 minutes later I could smell gas, faintly, but it was undeniable. I ran my vin through vw's recall system and came up empty. I'm going to get it checked out on Monday.
Also on my way home from dinner my radio stopped producing sound. When I tried turning the volume up the volume bar wouldn't move. I was on xm radio at the time and I switched to fm and am with no difference. Then I switched to my sd card. I was able to select a song but it wouldn't load on the main screen. I turned my car off and nothing changed. I tried using my phone and that worked, but after, the radio still wouldn't work. Then about 5 minutes later it started working again. So weird.
I saw that other people had problems with their stereo but it didn't seem the same.
After I use the AC, I get a bad smell. It smells like mold or mildew. I've tried a spray cleaner but the smell comes back. Is there a way to clean the system without tearing out the dash?
View 16 RepliesI am a first time toyota owner. I have a 2011 Camry which was purchased NEW in november. I have 6000 miles on it and thea/c smells like MILDEW. Took car into dealer todayand all they did was spray foo foo juice and my car now stinks to high heavens. Nobody told me a toyota would smell llike mildew. What is this and what do I do to fix it. I am scared to drive this car as some have told me it is probably MOLD in the ac.
View 14 RepliesI've had this in old cars before but not a car less than a year old ! I have 5,000 miles on mine and everytime I start the car this summer it smells like sour ammonia or mildew. I'm gonna take it in soon but was hoping there was an easy fix. Everything I've read seems temporary.

I have a '07 Elantra Limited. Air coming out air conditioner has a fairly strong mildew smell. How can I get rid of the smell? Is there a drain plug somewhere in the ventilation system I can open to get rid of water?

It's a 2012 with only 15k miles and the cabin filter is brand new. I was thinking of getting the mold sprays to apply directly to the vents. What to do to resolve it?

View 6 RepliesI noticed today that the temp got to be about 70 degrees today. I went to put on the ventilated seat, but it did not blow cool air. when I first got the car, it felt like as soon as I pushed the button cold air came out, It actually felt weird at first.
Now I can hear the fan going if I turn everything down, but it did not get cool.
Over the last few days, noticed immediately after starting car with AC on , slight mildew smell from the vents. Seems to last a few seconds then clears.
My Gen 3 is just over a year old with 10K miles. Most times my HVAC is set Auto/75/AC on, and use no special procedures to vent the evaporator with non/cooled air prior to shutting off the car.

Just wanted to let know that the mildew smell i had in my '10 ISF was resolved with a simple spray into the a/c intake vents at the bottom of the windshield. Changing the cabin filter and lysol didnt do squat. its called "a/c treatment spray" available at Lexus or at the auto stores.
View 14 RepliesWe have a 2005 VW Passat wagon and it has an awful and undetectable mildew/mold smell. We have had it checked for leaks by three separate mechanics, no water or dampness is apparent under the carpets, we have never seen any water in the car. It is not related to A/C or heat, for it is always there in the passenger cabin. We had it detailed with an antimicrobial solution applied to all of the upholstery and we cannot get rid of the stink.

I read before that the condensation hoses were sometimes installed incorrectly leading to run off inside the cabin. Can that be it?
I just bought a 2007 Santa Fe 3.3ltr with auto trans and all wheel drive. When I purchased it the speedometer did not work. I bought the VSS gear and installed it and now my transmission does not shift properly. Also I had it to the dealership for an ECU update and they said that their computer could not connect to the ECU.

View 2 RepliesI've had the JoeZ axle back installed for about two months now. I noticed that the engine light came on initially when installing but it went away on its own. I got into an accident and after the repairs were done on my car the light was gone.
It soon came back on but i expected it was because my oil change was due
Got the oil change done and the light was off. Couple days ago the light came back on.
I called the Lexus Dealer and they told me that it might be due to the Gas cap not tight enough. Gave it a few twist but light still remained on.
For the past month, I also recently noticed a mildew smell coming from the vents when i start the car but goes away. Does the mildew smell + Check engine light mean that something is wrong with the exhaust?
