Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2011 - Sudden Vibration When Driving / Whole Car Shakes
Mar 21, 2015
I am having problems with vibration on my 2011 Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi Premium, 95% of the time the car is fine, but twice now in the last month, out of nowhere, I can be driving along as standard and all the sudden a vibration will hit the whole car out of nowhere, it almost feels as if there is a bleb or defect on one of the tyres, the whole car shakes, but the shake is not coming through the steering wheel, it is the car body that seems to be shaking, if that makes any sense... However, if I pull over, turn off the engine, restart it, and pull away the vibration immediately disappears???
I am totally lost, as it is a occasional occurrence I can not replicate it for the dealer to inspect as it is still under warranty...

Having problems with total car vibration, especially after the car sits for awhile? I am told this is normal, because of the type of tires on the car. After five returns to the dealer, Lexus replaced them and the car still shakes when driving?

2011 SF. 52000kms.
A little while ago I noticed a brief vibration (felt through floor and steering) with normal acceleration from stand still... I attrributed this to the cold weather and perhaps oil thickening, as the problem went away after the car was warmed up. Since then I have noticed that it's continually happening on a regular basis, but only for a short period.. I was still thinking that it was the cold, but that wasn't the case because I left the car idle at start up for 20 minutes until well warm.
Now.. If I slowly accelerate (not putting much load on the car) there is no vibration at all. When the car reaches a certain speed, the vibration goes away. There is also no vibration after about 15 minutes of driving.
I had a neighbor test it with me to confirm and he felt it, and initially thought differential oil, but then suggested myriad other things from the CV boot to bearings to etc etc.
I need to take it to the dealership so they can experience the vibration but would certainly need to leave it there over night so they can check it out when "cold".

Driving my V10 at around 140 km/hr (87 mph) along the highway and passing a truck (in a tunnel), all of a sudden there was a violent vibration from the roof rack. It seems like it went into its resonance frequency because as soon as I slowed down it went away, and didn't reappear again.

A week ago, my wife and I were driving on the highway when suddenly our 2014 Santa Fe decided to shut off at 65 mph. When I say shut off, I mean EVERY SINGLE THING IN THE CAR DIED. All of the interior lights off, headlights off, instrument cluster, EVERYTHING. Being cool, calm, and collected, I immediately shifted into neutral, cranked, and all was back to normal. Not in the 2 years that we have owned this car has that EVER happened! I chalked it up to an inexplicable electrical anomaly.
Tonight, again, the same thing happened under different circumstances. This time, I was following her. She came to a stop at a red light, then once she lifted her foot off the brake, everything shut off. I instructed her to immediately put the car in neutral and try starting it. Like last time, it turned right back on. Apparently, there seemed to be an issue with the previous generation with the 2.4 motors.

Today when I am driving the 2007 Prius, suddenly heard some noise. I managed to come home and checked. There is a black plastic piece hanging and touch the ground, the noise was from this black plastic piece touching the ground. Attached is the picture. Is this a big problem? Can I continue to drive the car to repair shop to get this fixed?

The 2008 Prius I have when it comes to a stoplight all of a sudden the car shakes. And then of course it sounds like a Chets off. Now over the years I have not really paid a whole lot attention to this but in the last year so it seems like a car has shaken more as it turns off at the red light what do you think.

I have been following some discussions about a vibration at about 40 kms my has this problem also. I removed my drive shaft this morning and ran it on the hoist at that speed the vibration, noise is gone. I checked the center bearing and u-joints , the front u-joint has a tight spot. It appears the u-joints are not serviceable ,whole drive shaft replacement??

I recently bought a 08 question Sante fe we just drove it. When it got to 70 to 80 mph i could feel a vibration in the steering wheel. What it could be. I bought it with 56k on it. Put new tires on it cuz the original tires were worn on the inside on the rears.

i have a 2.2 crdi 2009 santa fe and when my foots off the gas pedal it has this strange vibrating hum noise that comes and goes - it doesn't matter if its in Park or Neutral.
You can only hear it inside the cab so im thinking maybe its something up against the firewall but i can't see what?

My car santa fe 2009/ 4WD / 2,7 / around 70,000 kms. Around a week ago, I noticed some vibration, that I can feel it mainly on the gas pedal. I can assume that the vibration came from the front of the car and just at low speed, like below the 40km/h. Also I feel that when took my foot of the gas, the vibration gone.

I'll try to keep this brief. I bought a 2008 Sante Fe AWD 7 passenger 1st week of Sept 2008 from Jim Pattison Hyundai in Nanaimo BC. Vehicle had a pronounced vibration at various speeds but was most noticeable at around 85 kph which seemed to vibrate frame, not steering. I called service department at the dealership. They said they would look at it during the trailer hitch install in 2 weeks.
After dropping off vehicle for trailer hitch installation I mentioned problem again. Later that day I picked up vehicle and asked about vibration. I was told "mechanic didn't feel anything". Got service manager to take a ride with me, vibration now felt by service manager.

I had this item of concern as a response to another thread but I thought I'd open up a new thread and see if I could get any more attention.
I bought a used GLS and upon initial drives I have noticed a high speed vibration that seems to come from the rear (I don't feel any in the steering). In the colder weather recently I've noticed a pronounced vibration at a lower speed (just before shift points). between 2nd and 3rd. This seems to be worse with short drives or in morning.
Vibration seems to be worse just after a tighter right turns or even some left turns. I notice the most vibration right around 25mph. I also get it with moderate acceleration into a certain torque range. Like driving at 45 and accelerating up to 60. What is going on? It seems like it is linked to acceleration (torque) and possible pressure from turns. CV joint / axle? Wheel bearing? It seems like a tire would be worse as speed increased and more consistent.

Just had new tires mounted and balanced on my 2011 Santa Fe. I purchased Toyo Celsius tires. I purchased the tires on line and had Faulkner Hyundai in Harrisburg PA mount and balance them.
When I drove to work 2 days later, I found that the vehicle starts to vibrate above 65 mph. When I get to 80 mph (typical traffic speed on I83 in the morning), the vehicle vibrates so badly that I shake in my seat.
This shaking leads to a feeling of lack of control. I'm hoping the dealer just screwed up balancing the wheels. Faulkner Hyundai uses a road force balancing machine.
My old near bald tires (the factory original Bridgestones) had a tiny vibration around 65 that went away as speed increased. With the new tires, the faster you go, the worse the shaking gets.
My 2011 Santa Fe still has under 30,000 miles on it!

We purchased a new 2010 Santa Fe Limited in October of last year, and as it stands today, we've put about 19,000km's on the vehicle (about 12,000 miles for my American friends). About 14,000km's in, we started noticing a vibration from the rear under acceleration. When you reached cruising speed (regardless of the speed), the vibration would go away, but would appear under acceleration. What was more alarming was that at slow speeds when making sharp left-hand turns (turning into the driveway, doing a u-turn, pulling into a parking spot, etc), there would occasionally be a loud bang from the rear end. The first time it happened, we thought that we had run over something... actually not but it sure sounded like it!
We took the vehicle into the dealership, and after an inspection they found a rock in one of the rear springs. They removed the rock, applied the TSB to place covers over the springs, test-drove the vehicle, and said the issue was resolved.
The next morning, I was heading out of town to pick up a friend, and experienced a loud bang when I pulled into my buddies driveway. Problem was NOT solved. Called Hyundai again, and made another service appointment. This time with the requirement of having a tech come with me for a test drive.
I was able to reproduce the vibration, which really shocked the tech. At the same time, I was also able to duplicate the loud bang when making sharp turns (I had actually caused it to happen twice when driving around the dealership, but I was alone in the vehicle at the time!), when he concluded that there was probably some binding going on in the drive train. They took the vehicle in, and after looking at it, determined that the coupler in the drive train was defective, and needed to be replaced. They didn't have the part in stock, so they had to order it in; my concern was that the vehicle was unsafe, but they assured me it would be fine to drive until the part came in. I went on a weekend trip with the vehicle, and experienced some pretty severe binding when pulling into parking spots (no bangs, but imagine driving through a lake of molasses) - I had to really give it gas to get it moving into the parking spot - not nice, especially considering what might have happened had it 'unbound' while under throttle...it was certainly not safe, but I survived.
After THREE weeks, the part finally arrived, and was installed yesterday. I'm happy to announce that the vibration has ceased, and I can only assume that the loud bang is gone as well (although I couldn't duplicate that on demand, so I'll never know for sure that it's gone). The Tech did mention that it was a new version of the part, so they just didn't install a new part, it was an upgraded new part.

Question about my 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe SE. The car has 25,000 miles on it, and just recently like in the last 1,000 miles I have notice when I use the AC, or even the air without the AC the engine reacts very poorly like it is under extremely heavy load. The car shakes and vibrates.
I completely understand that in AC mode, the compressor kicks in, but this to me seems excessive. The car vibrates and the idle drops substantially. AC on is worse that no AC.
In addition, idle or under 35 is worse that HWY driving. The vibration is so pronounced that I sometimes wont turn the AC or air on as the vehicle feels like it is going to rip itself apart.
This is something new and never vibrated this much before the 25,000 miles. Anything I should look into or have the Hyundai Dealer look into? What I may be over looking? Would more stout battery work?

This afternoon my Santa fe started shaking and light smoke from driver side at around 70 MPH. Continued for about 5 miles then pulled over shook the tire and heard some noise/play. Got back in the car and the issue went away.
How to check ball joint, Axle, and Strut for the cause of the issue? Before pulling over the issue did not worsen applying the brake so not the rotors. Also during idle no vibration.

Problem I have been noticing with my 2010 v6 Santa Fe.
I first noticed a vibration that appears to come from the drive train late last winter and only seems to happen on colder mornings. It comes across like I am driving on a rough road. If I am simply rolling without a lot of acceleration there is no vibration, but once I step on the gas and add power the vibration starts and will continue until I let off the gas. It is not an alignment issue as that has already been checked and eliminated as a cause.
Once the vehicle warms up, the problem goes away. This makes it very tough to demonstrate the problem as by the time I drive to the dealer the problem is gone. Guess Ill need to pick a cold day and leave it there overnight so they can see the problem. Had a very similar issue years ago on my old Nissan Pathfinder which was eventually traced to a the 4 wheel hub system.

I just took delivery about 2 weeks ago of a 2011 LS 460L AWD with less than 30k miles. I have a very annoying issue that happens every time I let off the accelerator. There is a consistent vibration that seems to be coming from the drive train. It's really annoying to me. This occurs when driving about 50 mph or greater, nothing when driving at slower speeds. There is a 30 day exchange policy where I bought the car from, hope I don't need to use it.

I bought a CRV a few months ago. Of course when I test drove there were no issues. Now when I drive there is vibration like running cow grates at about 40-44mph. I came across a post about this problem but with no solution and it's now closed. Has there been a solution??? It's quite annoying!!!! I read some place else it's in the drive line. But again no solution. It quits of you accelerate or decelerate. You have to be going at a perfectly steady speed. Italso seems to slip or change gears, something, just not a smooth drive at other times. Is this the transmission??? Occasionally it smells really bad after I turn car off too.
